>> terry: good evening. we begin with a series of new developments on this one can -- one-week anniversary of the tucson shootings. we have it all. >> reporter: there was more healing in tucson today for some, two more memorial services, and the congresswoman was taken off a ventilator. but there's still tension in the air. at a town hall sometime taping of abc's this week program in

tucson on saturday, one of the shooting victims was seated in the front row. 63-year-old james fuller. shot last week in the back and anymore. reportedly took offense to a comment made by a member of the few son tea party over gun control. deputies say he took a photo and then yelled, "you're dead. " fuller is undergoing a enemy health exam. heroes and survivors included a woman who grabbed ammunition and a magazine away from the gunman. the gunman's neighbor speaks out. >> if you look back and say, there were signs. >> i wish i have had more courage to have said more to his parents. >> it was an emotionally trying day at the safeway store in tucson, sight of the shooting rampage, the store re-opened for the first time with a moment of silent at 10:10 a.m. local time,

exactly one week after the gunfire erupted in the parking lot. hundreds brought flowers and prayerful intentions, this woman brought her six-year-old son. >> to show him that bad things happen but there's good in the world and just to let him know not to forget, you know, special people. the victims. i just wanted him to see it. >> reporter: there were two more memorial's, one for giffords' aide, gabrielle zimmerman, and another for phyllis schneck. and encouraging news from doctors keeping watch over congresswoman gabrielle giffords, who was shot in the head at close range. they removed her breathing tube and performed a tracheotomy. she romaines in intensative care. >> i know she is going to recover. i just know it. >> reporter: encouraging words. enough giffords is free of the ventilator and having an easier

time breathing from what doctors say. they hope they will soon be able to evaluate her able to -- ability to speak. >> terry: thanks very much. you can see the town hall meeting leslie was talking about tomorrow morning in a special "this week, after the tragedy, an american conversation continues. ". >> the tucson shootings have re-ignited the always smoldering issue of gun rights, in a different way. >> lisa: thousands fill the cow palace to attend the crossroads of the west gun show. >> free membership and a free ticket into the show. >> lisa: the same promoter is holding a gun show in tucson this week. we weren't allowed inside, but outside attendees lined up looking for deals. >> i already have weapons. i may be purchasing another one.

>> lisa: one reaction is a surge in gun sales. they have gone up in arizona and other states around the country. and word is spreading among second amendment supporters about the open carrier who was shopping nearby when the shooting started. he saw the gunman and another man struggling with the gun. he didn't know who the shooter was. he chose not to fire his weapon but instead hold both men down. he admits, in the chaos, things could have gone terribly wrong. >> a bunch of people watching, and all those people watching see me paul pull a gun out think, second shooter, and in arizona, people keep guns in their cars and somebody could have shot me. >> now gun owners insist he is a perfect example why americans should have the choice to arm themselves. >> opening doors. basically saying people should

have weapons in case something lick -- like this happens. >> gun control advocates view the attack as ropes -- reasons for more regulation. a law in california requires ammunition be bought in person with i.d. and thumbprint for verification. >> we should be tracking who is purchasing this ammunition, and we know the assailant in tucson last weekend walked into a store and bought magazine cases of 30 rounds or more. >> lisa: gun owners admit they're stocking up on ammo before the law kicks in. >> terry: a little later in the newscast, another story about the shooting in tucson, an uplifting story. one man is dead following a bank robbery in union system police got a call that a bank was being robbed. an officer chased the suspect in

the getaway car. a passenger started shooting at the officers. the chase ended at dial avenue when the driver was arrested but the passenger ran. the fan -- man was found dead with a gunshot the head. police cannot say if he was killed by police gunfire or shot himself. police reported to -- responded to a report of people breaking into cars, when they arrived, the suspects took off and led chp on a chase on the highway. it came down in the redwood heights. >> one officer was going about 100 miles an hour and backed off because it was too fast, and this where is it ended up in front of my house. >> terry: police say both suspects got out and ran. they brought in k9 units but were unable to find them.

inside the van police found what they believe are some of the stolen items from cars. oakland mayor spent the day walking the walk and talking the talk. >> we'd really like you guys to clean it yourselves from here on out. >> terry: mayor kwan city officials and local residents gathered to clean up litter and debris in east oakland. the mayor says the neighbor has been victimized by illegal dumping. >> we want the neighbors to help us catch the people so people stop using this nick as a dumping ground. so the difference is that i'm not doing this for them. i'm helping them organize to keep it clean themselves ter their the mayor's office has planned several other events in east oakland, and they include installing new computers in an elementary school, cleaning up a park, and beautifying international boulevard. police are investigating a killing at twin peaks this

morning. at least 100 people were at the popular vista point when a verbal dispute broke out. gunfire then broke out, hitting a 23-year-old in the torso. he died at the scene. police are seeking men who took off in a white minimum minivan. >> residents of an paper complex got support from ed lee. they toured the burned out complex on montgomery street. the complex, which is an affordable housing building, caught fire new year's morning, displacing 45 residents, who have been living in temporary housing funded by vouchers. >> we don't need -- leave people in stressful situations untouched by help from the city. >> terry: lee promised to work with the inspection department to ensure a quick recovery and understands the importance of

>> terry: san jose police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide at a shopping mall. police were called to the saratoga shopping center. they found a man there shot and killed. the police say the gunman ran to a nearby parking lot where he shot himself. both men appear to be anywhere 40s. no word what led up to the shootings. >> back to the tucson shootings, a woman who survived two gunshots and is already returning to work, pam simon is one of the staffers, and the talked to abc today. >> it was last night here we first heard from pam simon. the give give staffer shot in the chest and arm, who smiled wide. standing up to meet the

got wounded, too. >> terry: the victims of the shooting were honored at an annual knopp violence -- nonviolence rally in san jose. the college was dedicated to congresswoman giffords and the other victims. the event included a prayer for peace, a talent show, and several speakers promoting violence prevention and tolerance. >> former governor arnold schwarzenegger is telling an austrian newspaper that his time as governor cost him a huge pile of money and could have cost him his family. he missed on at least $200 million in act roles in hollywood films. still, he says it was more than worth it to be governor. but he says his family life is damaged and needs to be repaired. he calls many sunday evening when his wife and their children broke down in tears at his heavy work schedule and quoted families members as saying, we hate your job. >> we have a winner, the 2011

there. and even half moon bay, the fog also just right near the coast, about a half a mile visibility there. as i mentioned, the fog is moving around, and it will continue to thicken up overnight tonight. we will look for areas of dense fog tonight. a mild day tomorrow if you're in the sunshine. today, santa rosa reached 70 degrees. very mild for this time of year. but concord was stuck in the fog, only reached 50. so as the fog thins out, we'll see warmer days for the next several days. dense fog advisory until 11:00 a.m. with reduced visibilities, and overnight tonight, it's a slight easterly wind flow that is bringing the central valley fog, pushing it back towards the coast and bay. so we also have a weak cold front, bringing the coastal fog close by, too. so here's our overnight

temperatures, san francisco, 49. 44 for livermore, and 43 for cloverdale. high pressure is building in. circulation around the high is clockwide so while it's brought us a little clearing near the coast, helps to bring the easterly winds towards the central valley and it's going to keep the storms well to at the north. no rain. on tuesday and wednesday, the high will position itself over the bay area and we'll start to see the low clouds and fog thin out. tomorrow, though, 65 for san jose. 64 for half moon bay. 65 for palo alto. overcast near downtown san francisco, and then see the fog lift. a high of 63. napa, 64. 65 for oakland. fremont, 6 5. interior east bay in the 50s because of the fog. if the fog list of -- lifts
