for four days the ship hat no power and no working plumbing. even food had to be brought in by helicopter, foods like spam and pop tarts. the company in charge of the repair work say that is a great opportunity for them and the city. 125 extra jobs have been created as a result of the project. the ship is already a tourist attraction. people have been stopping by to take a look, including one man who was on the cruise. >> since i live so close, i thought i'd come and check it out. to bring back all the memories. >> reporter: was that such a good idea? >> well, i mean, it's just cool to see it's finally getting fixed. >> reporter: san francisco is the only city on the west coast with a dry dock large enough to accommodate ships look the carnival, which is why it will be here for the next several weeks. carnival is eager to get the ship back up and running. it hard'd to cancel 14 one-week

vowages -- vowages. >> alan: the splen -- it has 13 decks and can carry 3,000 passengers and 1500 staff members. >> crews have suspended their search for a missing fisherman in the delta. officials believe harry lee fell overboard will fishing alone. the coast guard found the man's 20-foot boot adrift with the keys still in the ignition and no one on board. the coast coast -- the marine unit continued searching today but with no results. >> we're going to stay positive and hope for the best. something will come up. >> alan: lee is thought to have been wearing a manual life jacket that has to be inflated

using a pull string. the coast guard recommends life jackets that inflate by themselves on contact with water. an investigation is underway tonight after an oakland unified school police officer shoot and killed a suspect in the oakland hills last night. two school police officers pulled up behind a honda, and approached a man and a woman sitting inside. police say the man pulled out a screwdriver and attacked one of the officers. >> one of the occupants stabbed one of our police officers with a tool. fortunately the officer was not injured because he was wearing a protective vest. at this time there was a gun in the car, and another officer shot the occupant or the car. >> alan: the officers are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. the woman in the car was not hurt, but she was taken to the hospital for observation. oakland unified police, the oakland police department, and the district attorney's office

are investigating the incident. meantime, marchers took to the streets of oakland to encourage residents to get more involved in making their neighborhoods safer. we report from hyde street, the scene of the first murder of the year. >> reporter: marchers gathered outside the apartment building where a 19-year-old was gunned down just nine minutes into the new year. the theme of sunday's march, take back the streets, block-by-block. >> people see that we're doing something, and they eventually become involved if they want to make a change. >> reporter: sheila turner's husband helped organize the march. >> letting the neighbors know we have options, we have services, and together we can turn oakland around. >> reporter: marchers pick up trash and handed out leaflets.

but on martin luther king boulevard. few people are willing to say they would do anything to help the police. >> in a recent survey, 40% of oakland residents said they distrusted police. >> i don't call the police on anybody. something doing something at my house, i talk to them about it. i've been in trouble with the law myself. >> reporter: this afternoon, oakland mayor jean quan met with the marchers. she says she is setting up meetings between the police, schools, and city departments, to foster better relation. >> the beat officers have been back a week. we're going to have them visit schools and have them work with parks and rec departments. >> i just believe in the people of ohmland and we can turn around any neighborhood. >> mayor quan says she is optimistic.

and there have been ten homicide so far in oakland this year, but the murder rate in the city has dropped every year since 2006. in oakland, abc-7 news. >> alan: the was another officer-involved shooting and a woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was shot by daly city street. it happened just inside the san francisco city limentz. officers say they tried to pull over her car, but instead of stopping, shingaccelerated and crashed into a house, threw the car in reverse, hitting an officer so the police opened fire, hitting the woman at least once. the male passenger was arrested. a search for a kidnapped four-year-old boy is expected to resume in stanislaus county canal. so far divers have recovered five vehicles from the canal but none of them match the car used in the kidnapping of julianny card car car car -- cardenas.

the two people inside a car that drove into the cam. investigators say there were fairly recent tire tracks leading into the water. police say the man snatch third boy from his grandmother. and the amber alert is confined to the central valley. the license plate number is 6hbw445. if you think you see it, call police. davis police say they arrested a 25-year-old uc davis student after finding two loaded weapons in his truck. the statement says a family member tipped off police that 25-year-old niklas benson was suicidal and armed. police found him in downtown davis, and after resisting commands to surrender, the police say they used a taser to sub do -- subdue him. up next, former secretary of

and this is going to keep us dry, but storm track continues to stay well to the north of us. look at the amplitude on this thing, the jet stream is well to the north. we may see a few of these high clouds drift by from time to time, but otherwise a dry weather pattern. the next seven to ten days looks dry. the middle of next week, we'll probably get some rain. highs for monday. mid-60s for san jose. 61 for pacifica. 65 redwood city. as well as palo alto. mid-60s tomorrow for san francisco. north bay, santa rosa, 65. napa, 64. 63 for vallejo. oakland, 65. hercules, 64. 64 for union city. interior east bay where the fog will sit, be very patchy tomorrow.
