was found this morning. there were some tense moments in oakland's rockridge district which ended with police shooting and killing a man today. it happened around 9:30 in a residential neighborhood near broadway and college avenue. wayne freeman is there. >> reporter: anytime a police officer shoots and kills someone on the city streets there's going to be questions, and that's the case in oakland tonight. we don't have a lot of lee tails, only police say the man had been acting strangely and he may haveen truitted into this house. >> rockridge residents would have been hard-pressed to believe this could happen around here. what happened remains sketchy. as oak loaned police explain it,

they knew him and he knew them. >> now one man describe as being in his mid-30s or 40s is dead shot by the same oakland police, after he reportedly patrolled up and down taft avenue in camouflage with what happened to be an assault rifle that turned tout to be a replica. police say he entered this house with at least two people inside. one of them ran out. the situation escalated from there. >> the officers approached the home from the front. as they got up the stairs a gentleman, who we have not confirmed his name yet -- exited the home, and confronted the officers armed with a -- with an automatic rifle. the officers immediately opened fire on the gentleman, which ended his life. >> reporter: police say three officers shot simultaneously. no word yet on how many rounds they fired or how many hit their mark. the police would not speculate

where the shooting was justified, but one neighborhood resident is not so sure. >> overy of force. i can't imagine that one couldn't have shot him in the leg, and that we don't need to kill people in quiet residential neighborhoods because they're acting strange. >> but tony dombrowski, who lives across the street, says as he saw it police had been exercising restraint. >> whoever it was, a two block area would have said, okay i'll.my hands up and come out. i don't think this guy did. >> reporter: right now you're looking at a live pick tower of the front of the house. two police officers combing for what they describe as physical evidence. they already cut down the weeds, and it appears they're looking for something more but won't specify what that is. about that replica assault arrival, we asked police if it was a weapon. they said yes. at to what it shoots whether

and this will move across the bay area overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. here's the current readings, 49 fairfield. 60 in mountain view, and look for increasing showers overnight. there's also a possibility of some isolated thunder by tomorrow morning. this system will be a fast mover. by tomorrow night we should start to see partial clearing and look for dry and cool weather as we head into the first part of next week. you can get a sense of what is stacking up just along the coast. we saw a little activity that brought us the heavy mississippi -- mist and drizzle. this is the cold front that makes its way across the bay area so overnight tonight increasing showers. here's a look at the timing. as we head into the 8:00 9:00, 10:00 hour, the cold front will make its way across the bay area. it's the area of low pressure behind this hat moves in tomorrow morning to bring us the chance of isolated
