nighttime curfew as the continue their efforts to force president hosni mubarak out of office. at this hour 3:00 a.m. in cairo, the military seems to be doing nothing to stop them. hundreds of people are stranded at cairo international airport waiting for flights out of the country. the u.s. state department is set to fly thousands of u.s. citizen to europe. we have more on the situation in egypt. >> reporter: war planes soared over the capital in what seemed to be a government show of

force. below, the streets cairo continue to be a caldron of political change. thousands of protestors flooded the city square to call for president mubarak to leave from office. egypt's ambassador to the united states says reform is coming. >> the president has indicated a willingness to continue the national dialogue. >> reporter: the dissidents say otherwise. >> the people will choose the president. not mubarak. mubarak can't choose for us. >> reporter: secretary of state hillary clinton told abc the u.s. wants a peaceful transition to democracy. >> we want to ensure there is no violence and no prove vocation that results in violence, and we want to see reforms and a process of national dialogue. >> reporter: state-controlled television showed president hosni mubarak at a military

command center. whether he succeeds in holding on to power depends on what side the military takes. so far they have refused to turn on the demonstrators. sunday the arm ya was in -- army was in police mode, growing sign of an anarchy. a new start means no mubarak. >> it will not end until mubarak leaves today. >> reporter: in egypt, the waiting and watching continue. abc news. >> alan: meanwhile egyptians in the bay area were anxiously watching the protests on tv, and now that some enter sunset service seems to be up and running game they're making contact with their families. >> reporter: thousands of miles from the homeland this egyptian christians are preoccupied, anxious, scared about the fate of their country.

during sunday services in hayward, they managed to turn their concern into prayer. for many of them their family and friend back home are marching in the streets, these immigrants have a new home but understand the frustration in their nate -- native country too well. >> we have been in this -- a country governed by oppression by dictators, by police. there's no democracy no people. >> the list of complaints goes on and on. >> the price of things like bread, sugar, eggs has doubled and tripled, and the incomes have not increased. >> reporter: under president mubarak's 30-year rule is just about all this man knows. he moved to the u.s. two years ago. even though protestors are demanding mubarak step down, there's fear of what could come next.

through. let's going to leigh glaser. >> leigh: some pretty heavy rain moved crs the bay area, but almost completely clear. the system moved in brought us rain and then moved out. from san jose to gilroy starting to clear up. gilroy, a little rain to the north of you but all of this will move on rather rapidly. how much did we get? san francisco, over a quarter inch. close to a quarter inch for oakland. even san jose pick up a little over a half an inch. any rain in the work week ahead? we'll take a look at the seven-day forecast coming up. >> alan: the man killed yesterday by police in oakland's rockridge district has been identified. matthew cicels ky was shot after he pointed a replica assault weapon at police.

neighbors say he was wearing camouflage and had been walking up and down the street with the fake weapon outside his girlfriend's house. when officers arrived he forced his way into a neighbor's home. three officers opened fire and killed him when he walk out with the women. they're on routine paid ated a mr.tive leave. >> supporters are holding a vigil for juliani cardenas, yesterday divers ended their search of the canal. friday night they pulled out the car belonging to the man suspected of killing juliani. the vehicle was empty. investigators believe their bodies could surface downstream but the boy's family is holding out hope he is still alive possibly being hidden by the suspect's friends. his mother is set to be at the vigil tonight police will continue to control the area along the canal but there will be no organized search efforts.

some east bay residents felt a series of early morning earthquakes, most of them were small. the 3.2 quakes were centered fear alamo. one of them hit at 3:13 a.m. the other at 3:29. there were several other smaller quakes between 1:30 and 5:30 in the morning out in reports -- but no reports of damage. >> today is fred koromatsu day. a law was passed september designating january 30th a day of recognition for the pioneer. he was arrested and convicted after rue refusing to go to an internment camp with other japanese americans in world war. his conviction was overturned. his daughter karen, says the support was overwhelming.
