gesture to protestors but hosni mubarak has not step down. thousands gathered in central cairo demanding that the president step down. they have been holding peaceful demonstrations continuing to call for the president hosni mubarak to end his trm immediately but he remains defiant. an assistant prime minister said things are calming down even suggesting that the crisis may be revolved without his immediate departure. a google executive has become a figure head of the uprising. he joined the protest in cairo. the family believes she in government custody. here is the latest from cairo. >> this morning they remained determined for mubarak to step

thousands of bay area people will stand in solidarity for those fighting in justice and liberation at a rally in san francisco's plaza. it will also include live interviews with people from egypt. >> in other news san jose's hockey team is off the ice this morning amid alcohol use. players and parents and coaches held a meeting last night to discuss the situation. tomas ramon reports from san jose. >> the spartans had left the closed-door meeting. they would not answer questions. the university received a couple of calls about the team abusing alcohol while in uniform.

harris is a san jose spokesperson. >> this does involve alcohol. all of our club sports are fully aware that alcohol and team sports don't mix. >> this is them playing last march. they won't say when or where was consumed whether was on the road or during the game. he didn't want to say too much. >> we will do anything that is needed. i'm not sure of what the allegations are. >> he repeated several times he didn't know why his team was suspended. he has faith in his players and think they will be cleared of any charges. >> we believe it will be. i'm sure the players -- i'm confident the players will be exonerated from any of that. >> the team was supposed to play against san diego but nobody is

damien maldonado. he claims to be a licensed at the time that can do ear croppings. but in five cases this was the result. this tale was cut off and the ears were taped. they raided his home but couldn't find him. this neighbor didn't want to be identified but says he has heard nonstop barking from the house. >> authorities believe that he opened on animals all over the state including fresno and santa clara county. there is $5,000 reward for anyone who can help with his arrest. lisa amin gulezian "abc 7 news." >> target reaches a settlement with the state over allegations

top of the stadium. >> mother nature has been the superbowl's most stubborn and unlikely opponent. who could imagine that a city could be a massive and then half foot of snow. hundreds of flights flights have been cancelled. the fans of greg jennings stuck in michigan desperate to see their son. >> if we start walking we could get there. >> 550 steelers fans spent most of friday at the pittsburgh airport. >> all of the interstates are sheets of ice and rarely do you see cars secretary any going more than 20-25 miles an hour. icy road are blamed for four fatalities across the south but that is not scaring the fans away but not for long.

temperatures skyrocketed to the low 60s so the north winds are going to allow numbers to warm up and gusting in the hills of the north bay east bay and santa cruz mountains. we have wide ranging temperatures. 51 in san francisco with low 40s on the peninsula winds at the surface are calm but 800 feet we have warmer air. everybody is warmer. maybe 20 degrees warmer. it shows what the winds are capable of doing. mostly the winds kick up and stay windy through tomorrow. so there is a wind advisory from 4:00 this afternoon until 10:00 tomorrow morning. sustained winds 25-35 miles an

hour. winds gusting to over 55 miles an hour at mount diablo. be careful out there this afternoon double barrel high pressure and the flow around the high we're getting those offshore winds. a few cirrus clouds slipping in but that won't change the warming. strong ridge in place and in fact getting warmer tomorrow. more heat tonight overnight. that will allow for a warmer start. mid-70s tomorrow. here is a look in the south bay. 71 in san jose 72 saratoga. peninsula beautiful afternoon 71 in redwood city. san francisco, 69 degrees.

good morning everyone. weave developing nice out of egypt. leaders are egypt's ruling party has just resigned in a new gesture to anti-government protestors however hosni mubarak remains in power. ruling party's secretary-general and mubarak's son resigned today according to egypt state tv. we have learned this morning that protest leaders met with the prime minister to ease mubarak out of office. thousands continue to gather at tahrir square. president mubarak refuses to leave immediately so egypt would fall into chaos if he were to suddenly step down. president obama is trying to form a transitional government allowing him to step down. >> the future of egypt will be determined by its people. it's also clear that there needs to be a transition process that

begins now. that transition must initiate a process that respects the universal rights of the egyptian people and leads to fair elections. >> u.s. diplomats are trying to convince mubarak to hand military power until power is transitioned. >> they are trying to limit atomic warheads. new start treat at this went into effect when hillary clinton exchanged papers with russia's foreign minister on the sidelines of a security conference in munich. it limits each side 1500 strategic warheads. >> health insurance giant blue shield delayed plans to raise rates by as much as 59% but new outrage from critics. after they hosted a $100,000 fund-raiser for the speaker of the assembly.

after weeks of public outcry over rate hikes as much as 59% blue shield finally agreed to delay the move this week. they want the bring in company executives and demand an explanation. >> this is the largest rate hike in california history for health insurance. i think there is no question that the legislature should be holding hearings. i think they should be subpoenaing the ceo of blue shield. >> saying he is just as outraged as the public that assembly spooker he plans to hold hearings. >> we are. think you see the health committee starting down that process. >> the health committee's chairman said there is no plans issuing a date. leaving some to question how to hold their feet to the fire particularly they threw him a $100,000 fund-raiser at this sacramento restaurant. that his car and driver waiting

concord's mount diablo school board may decide which of schools to close down. they may look at a new option that hasn't been discussed. they have gone through the painful process of narrowing the decision three of seven schools to save $1.5 million each year. trustees will discuss a new option to achieve the savings without the controversial closure. tuesday's meeting is expected to be held at mount diablo high school. >> now according money scope report dealerships won't be closing any more. >> you seek it. money being spent because auto sales or the come back. they are projecting sales could

water for two third of the bay area is undergoing a major overhaul. hetch-hetchy's retrofit will begin this year. it will give water officials to go to places they haven't been if decades. dan ashley says it's an exclusive look inside this amazing system. >> this pipeline was built in the late 60s to meet the growing demand for water along the peninsula. typically it carries water for more a of than a million people. it's seven stories below the surface and no one has been inside it to inspect it since the water was turned on more than four decades ago until now. >> this hasn't been inspected since 1967. >> the lead insurance inspector in san mateo county. >> we are the infrastructure

that rarely gets inspected that is so critical to the population that you rarely have the opportunity to unwater the tunnel to check on them. >> this stretch was carefully walked by engineers and water officials looking for anything that may affect the flow or quality of the water being sent through it. >> we are looking for stress in the concrete lining that might be indicated by cracks. it might be indicated by leaky water. >> this can be dangerous work the communication is by radio letting everyone outside that everybody inside is okay. it has unseen dangers. the air is constantly monitored. a fan forces air through one side of tunnel.

every valve is locked until everyone is out of the tunnel. >> the opportunity for them to assess the condition of the tunnel is a rare opportunity. >> and it is an opportunity made possible by one of the largest water infrastructures upgrades in california history. since the 1920s water from hetch-hetchy has provided 2.5 million people in northern california with some of most valuable water in the nation. high school an engineering marvel managed by the san francisco puc. years of deferred maintenance and old construction techniques have made it vulnerable in a major earthquake. in 2002 voters approved a bond to pay for their share of repairs to the aging system. it will than paid back over time with increases in water rates. some of the largest projects are ramping up to start this year. >> we're going to be dedicating a project for the next six

months. >> ed hair tons heads up the puc and $4.5 billion project. including plaflg pipes with a tunnel a new dam and upgrading water treatment facilities. >> we have $2 billion under construction which is pretty amazing. >> he says the goal is to completely upgrade the hetch-hetchy water system by 2015. >> one of the fundamental challenges we have in the program is rebuilding it while had it stays on line. >> that is why they are putting this new tunnel new crystal springs reservoir providing a path to keep water flowing to customers and during emergencies but the older tunnel is still an important part of the system and why this inspection was so critical. >> it turns out the tunnel is in fantastic shape. we won't have to go back in the tunnel for the foreseeable

future. >> water was scheduled to be shut off for 20 days but crews finished the job in half time. >> lisa argen is here with the forecast this weekend. >> we're going to see warming temperatures quickly. winds picking up and as we head outside, it looks beautiful from the sutro cam. you see headlands and sunshine. we have a few high clouds around. we have had that the past couple of days. winds are really offsetting the cool atmosphere through the overnight hours because we are already in the 50s and low 60s at our coast. chill any numbers out by travis 38 in fairfield and 45 in oakland, 46 in fremont. good morning. we are looking at the calm winds at the surface you get above 800 feet and the winds begin to really gust especially in the east bay. not yet in the north bay and because of that we're much warmer this morning, as much as 20 degrees warmer half moon bay.

your wind whips around at 5:40 this morning. from the southwest to the north temperatures jump 10 degrees in about an hour's time. we'll continue to see the warming and the wind in the hills this afternoon. the overnight hours and also tomorrow. with that we won't cool that much tonight. today records are likely around the bay as well as tomorrow. we start out warmer and no rain in sight for the next seven days. wind advisory in effect 4:00 this afternoon until 10:00 tomorrow. look for the winds sustained out of north 25-35 miles an hour gusting to over 45 miles an hour. in fact right now mount diablo wind gusts of 52 miles an hour. that is pretty high up there. 3800 feet. we will see more likely the breezy winds and should enjoy the day today because it's bringing us temperatures well above normal. anywhere from 3-10 degrees above

average. 58 in oakland and san francisco. double barrel high pressure cirrus clouds spilling over the ridge. from time to time we'll see that. overall the ridge remains in place. it's a strong one. it will begin to weaken next week tomorrow it continues to strengthen. tomorrow could be warmer by 2-4 degrees than today's readings. we will see numbers flirting with the low 70s in the south bay. 73 in los gatos. 70 in sunnyvale. peninsula numbers range from mid-60s. 71 in redwood city. san francisco coming in at 69 degrees today. 65 in the sunset district. north bay maybe a record. low 70s in santa rosa and sonoma. berkeley with 70 in fremont and out over the hills. breezy and higher elevations concord, 71 as well as danville. monterey bay 74 in salinas.

little at a time. >> which which means if you are driving 9,000 miles a year and you are able to carpool once or twice a month you will go down maybe a thousand miles and with that you'll see savings. >> for every 500 miles less you drive your insurance will drop between 1-2%. so drive a thousand miles less 2-4% and on and on. >> it's showing what i'm driving. telling them the miles i have driven which i don't have a problem. >> and it's not just about money. >> i was living a green building. a certified building reducing the carbon footprint. i do use public transportation. >> the cap is if drive more you are going to pay more. >> if you have on star that will keep track of the mileage but if not you self-report.
