good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. on the 13th day of the up rising a remarkable meeting between opposition leaders and is new vice president. it has produced an agreement for sweeping memories that days ago -- reforms were unimaginable now from cairo with today's developments. >> the first meeting about brotherhood for years. they have been banned since they tried to assassinate nassar. president mubarak has been very successful in dividing the opposition. >> omar suleiman had called for

talks. the muslim brotherhood said they would not negotiate until hosni mubarak would step down. they will meet with suleiman today a big hurdle that hopes will play indicate the protestors. >> the ruling democratic party stepped down including the president's son and once presumed heir. on the square it was peaceful festive as most fear. after two weeks of anti-government demonstrations protestors are convinced they are making headway. >> every day they are making concessions is our monitor that we are successful. >> despite the concessions ever present threat of a violent crackdown. most say they are not budging until the president steps down. >> we will destroy this regime of mubarak and we will continue here until we are done. >>

the protestors have gathered for a christian service. there are many muslims throughout the crowd but they are chanting one hand and we have heard over and over again regardless of whether you are christian or muslim they are all egyptians. >> on outside the sierra there was sense of calm as we drove through the streets. life was returning to normal. long lines at state banks for the first time in weeks. there is another debate brewing. many want their lives back. their businesses have been affected and children are not going to school. first was president hosni mubarak now christiane ammanpour has had an exclusive sit down with egyptian vice president omar suleiman. he gives her a frank description

of where things stands now if president mubarak was to to say i've had enough 62 years of public service and he wants to go but not quite yet, what are the concerns why would he not go now? >> mubarak would say that i'm leaving now who would take over? i think with this atmosphere the other people who have their own agenda will make instability in our country. >> we know what the opposition wants. what do you want from the opposition? >> i want the opposition to stand back in this limited time we can do what president mubarak has said. we cannot do more. when new president will come you will have more time to make changes you want. what is sirnt whether opposition groups will accept

the timetable or push harder for mubarak's immediate departure. now part of this agreement reached today includes releasing those who have been detained during the uprising. that should be welcome news for the bay area family of a google executive who was apparently arrested and taken away by government agents last week. he hasn't been seen or heard from since. he was attending one of the early protests in cairo when he disappeared. a video showing a group of men in plain clothes tracking him away on the al-jazeera network. one of their correspondents have been detained in the square by the egyptian military. >> to iran the trial of three u.c. berkeley grads accused of spying while hiking near the border is now underway according to journalists. this trial could lead to a lifetime in prison or freedom

for shane bower and josh fatel. now more. >> today's session was held behind closed doors in tehran's revolutionary court. even the swiss ambassador was thrown out. unions say the three are spies a charge that can carry the death sentence. all three have denied those charges. there is hope that this trial may be the end of the ordeal that they could be set free with time served. it's been a grueling 18 months for the three americans all of it spent in tehran's notorious prison. they were arrested by the iranians as they hiked along the border with neighboring iran. shourd was released for medical reasons. >> my disappointment for not

blow to oakland's plan to tax large scale pot farms. a system councilman says he is withdrawing his legal advice and they need to hire an attorney. in a letter sent to the mayor he indicated he would turn over all the times they have collected so far. on tuesday the city council agreed to revise the pot proposal after federal and local law enforcement officials warned it could be illegal and could invite state and federal prosecution. the changes would limit the size of the farms and require that each one operate its own on site dispensary. >> residents held a peace march through the trumped old town yesterday. -- troubled old town yesterday. >> police chief joined marchers. they walked to the site of a

shooting that left three men dead and three juveniles wounded. they approved spending $400,000 to hire four new officers and launched plans to improve conditions in old town. >> the city was rocked by these killings. we mourn along with the families and this neighborhood. we are embarking on what i believe is going to be a long term effort to create a safer neighborhood and improve the quality of life. >> organizers of what they called the day of healing event are also pushing for a community center and mentoring programs for young people. pg&e has spent more than $4 million since 2002 opposing the marin energy venture of selling electricity. a report by state regulators shows pg&e shelled out another $5 million fighting similar efforts in san francisco and the

bank of america has agreed to pay $410 million to settle a lawsuit challenging its overdraft fees. the agreement is to be the first financial settlement by a large bank involving overdraft processes. there are lawsuits against other lending institutions. a bounced check can cost as much as $35. new regulations prevent banks from charging overdraft fees on many transactions. >> spirits are rising -- sales are rising for car dealers.

all hands on deck. firefighters in texas working overnight to clear the ice off the roof of cowboys' stadium before today's superbowl. arlington fire department was regularly on sunshine to melt the ice but it was not happening fast enough. on friday six people were injured when ice fell from the roof and landed on workers. the city is prepared for just any safety or security contingency at today's game but all their planning, no one anticipated so much ice building up the week before the big game. officials say the ice will be cleared by the time fans start arriving. so you are saying, a little snow a little rain, a little wind but at least it's an indoor stadium. once you get there everything is fine. >> low 40s but clouds are moving in. they are going to break midwest

welcome back everyone. an unprecedented meeting in cairo egypt's vice president some dramatic concessions when he met with opposition leaders to work out a blueprint for

changes. there are no promises that president mubarak will step down in september but it far reaches reforms and freedom of the press and security measures since mubarak took office. vice president omar suleiman agreed to release those detained during 13 days of protest and vowed not to retaliate against the thousands who demonstrators. hundreds of protestors remain in tahrir square calling for the resignation resignation of mubarak. relatives of this missing google executive are trying to draw attention to his polite. he was last seen being carried away from an early protest in cairo by men in plainclothes. his family says government agents are holding him and they have been making some frightening phone calls to his relatives. john alston has our update.

twitter saying he was worried the government was planning a war crime against people and we are all ready to die. >> it set up a website critical of the government after police to death a 28-year-old activist. now, the family in egypt is getting ominous late night calls about him. >> is he still alive? >> we don't know. we don't know. and we get phone calls in the night. >> it is a decades of fear and repression in egypt that drew hundreds of anti-mubarak demonstrators to san francisco for a second weekend in a row. >> the state media is doing a lot what we want to do is let the rest of the world know that people have specific requirements for specific requests. they are tired of 30 years of corruption. >> gonin is 30 years old.
