>> lisa: also means bay area drivers who aren't used to the snow are hitting the mountains. this man's car got stuck. >> we dug, and people came and off editor -- offered to push, including the sheriff who said i shouldn't be parked there. >> lisa: when the snow started falling, it's barely let up since. road crews have shut down two parts of the mountain area, including empire grade and bear creek road. >> the higher elevation so we decided to stay home, and wait it out. >> lisa: the dangerous driving conditions weren't just in the mountains. this driver hydroplaned off the highway, down the side of the road, and eventually flipped over into the creek. emergency crews had to repel down the embankment to save him. >> the victim was trapped inside with the seatbelt. was able to reach in and get the

seatbelt undone. >> lisa: the driver suffered only minor injuries. abc-7 news. >> alan: it's not just snow that has been falling. there's plenty of rain across northern california today. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. more traffic than usual. possibly because of the chinese new year parade. meteorologist leigh glaser joins us with the latest. >> leigh: san francisco over an inch of rain in the last 24 hours, and more rainfall totals in a little bit. the live doppler 7 hd still very active. an area of low pressure right here, and it's pushing everything to the south. so we starting to see a little clearing in the north bay, and this will press south of the bay area this evening. we still have moderate rain, vallejo, hercules area, richmond, dark greens indicate moderate rain, and the pink on the screen where is the snow is

still coming down. that would be mt. hamilton and to the north of sayre saratoga e santa cruz area, storm watch, winter weather advisory still in effect for those areas until 7:00. looking at two to three inches of snow at the 2,000-foot level. so far, mt. tam, three inches. hamilton, six. santa cruz, five inches of snow, and monterrey, five inches of snow. we're going to see some clearing tomorrow. >> alan: if you're heading to the sierra, be very careful because this is a look at the caltrans camera on highway 50 at ski run, just half an hour ago. you can see traffic steady out there. the good news is there are no chain riermtz right now. once you get to the slopes there is plenty of snow. here's a live look at heavenly ski resort, and you may be

they had to use chainsaws and a mulcher. early this morning the republican controlled house passed legislation to cut $60 billion from hundreds of federal programs. >> i think you have done yourselves proud this week. >> alan: the $1.2 trillion measure would keep the government running through september. the cuts were passed without a single democratic vote, and the cuts take aim at schools, housing subsidies and other domestic programs. the measure protects oil and coal companies and farmers from new regulation. s. but it faces a fight in the senate, which is controlled by the democrats. >> a protest over a budget bill in wisconsin. nearly 70,000 protesters and a crowd of a few hundred

supporters came face-to-face for the first time. here's more on that. >> reporter: this fifth day of protests are the largest crowd yet. [chanting] >> reporter: with chants of, kill the bill, unions turned out in force to support state workers who are facing benefit cutbacks. this brother and sister are on opposite sides. >> it's more about busting the unions. >> these people are just greedy like they always have been. >> opponents of the bill swarmed the state capitol inside and out. >> the union is the back boab of the middle class. >> reporter: but they face counterdemonstrators, including tea party activists. >> nice to watch. standing up to the 'r. >> public employees have been the cadillac of employees. >> reporter: even joe the plumber was there.

>> alan: security forces in libya and yemen struck back today. there are unconfirmed reports of up to 200 deaths in the libyan city today. witnesses are reporting bloody clashes with soldiers firing tear gas and bullets. dem upon straight -- dem demonstrators are expressing their discontent with the rule of moammar cad gad daffy.

security fors were running through the dispreetz protesters were injured. >> somali pirates have high highjacked an american yacht and taken the oregons host yafnlgt jean and scott adam have been sailing since december of 2004. they are members of a yacht club and distribute bibles around the world. pirates hijacked the boat yesterday just two days after a somali pirate was sentenced in new york for a hijacker. >> the possibility of bringing free internet to palo alto. is this the beginning of the end of this week's winter storm? leigh glaser knows.

>> alan: three -- free outdoor wi-fi may be coming to palo alto but only only for at&t customers. as part of the company's effort to boost service where people gather outside. at&t wants to install antennas on a balcony of the hotel president on university avenue. the company has two outdoor wi-fi networks, one in new york city's times square and the other on a stretch of embarcadero. the city council will consider

the proposal next week. on to leigh glaser who has a lot to talk about. >> leigh: we do, but much of what is out there is sagging to the south, and we're going to actually see clearing, and a little more in the way of sunshine by sunday afternoon. those of you who may be going to the parade tonight, it's still going to be rather drippy out there and cool. keep that in mind. this is a live shot from the high definition watermark cam. there's treasure island in the background, and the rain continues to follow. live doppler 7hd showing you the moderate rain still falling. up toward vallejo, down towards san francisco, and you notice the counterclockwise spin and that's bringing the showers from east to west, and you can get a good indication in the north bay. vallejo, hercules, those showers are going to be rotating back,

endown towards mill valley. a little precipitation now toward diablo there all of this is slowly sagging south, but it was going to take some time before it exits the bay area. still picking up quite a bit of moisture, the pink on the screen indicating the frozen precipitation. hamilton, picking up the snow. and rainfall. if we had it. san francisco, the big winner. over an inch and a half in the last 24 hours. over an inch in oakland. lesser amounts in concord and san jose. and it looks like the rain will continue for at least the next four to five hours before we start to see it clearing. first in the north bay and then the south bay. current temperatures. it's cold out there, 41, san francisco, 42 in concord. 46 in san jose. scattered showers overnight. a chance of maybe few drops tomorrow morning, mainly south

of san jose, the rest of us get ready for afternoon clearing and there's a slight chance we may see a few more showers on monday. this is the satellite radar projection. you can see all of this rotating south and that's what's going to happen throughout the course of the evening. we should start to see clearing in the north bay. temperatures across the bay area will be chilly. 38 for san jose. and here's the culprit. low pressure continuing to press south. and as it does so all of that is going to slowly push into southern california overnight tonight. here's the timing. overnight tonight, you'll notice by 7:00, 8:00-10:00, the clearing begins in the north bay first and then head south. a chance of some snow in the higher elevations,, and by sunday afternoon we'll look for clearing across the entire bay area. so here's a look -- if you're heading to the sear remarks the winter storm watches and warnings have been lifted.

actually seeing sunshine out there right now. tomorrow afternoon, a little warmer. temperatures will climb into 52 for downtown san francisco in the north bay. afternoon sun, sonoma, 54. oakland, 55. interior east bay, some sunshine for you. 54 for concord and danville, and watsonville, 54 degrees. we'll keep a slight chance of shower on the holiday monday. models kind of confused, whether they're going to bring the low inland or keep it off the coast. tuesday and wednesday, dry. the next chance of showers, friday and saturday. >> alan: colin is in for shu, and the giants getting back together in the rain down in arizona. >> the weather followed shu. we saw him earlier in the newscast. he'll have a live report. the giants' first full squad

moment, then you have the parade, and then in the offseason you get to process what you accomplished. today the giants got to relive the moment of winning the world series in their first full-squad workout. with a swing of the bat, the world champion giants began their quest for back-to-back titles. before that it was great to look back. >> when i stood up and started talking, i looked around and thought about last year, and how proud i was of these guys, and what all it took from them to accomplish what we did, and a pleasing feeling to stand up there and look at the world champions. >> a little reminiscing, and get back to work. >> everybody is excited to get here. nice to get back out on the field and get back to baseball stuff. >> mike: aubrey huff didn't have a lot of time to think about his first trip to the playoffs. >> i didn't have much time
