making a human chain around the capital in yemen, protesters streamed through the city, and in libya, rebels and government force have made gains in fierce fighting. here's more from benghazi. >> reporter: today clashes erupted between forces loyal to gadhafi and the rebels in the key oil port town. it was clear who won. the flag that has become the rebel's symbol was hoisted high. they succeeded in driving gadhafi's forces out. further west just 30 miles from tripoli, government troops launched a counterattack trying to recapture a town from the rebels. there are reports gadhafi forces were firing indescrim natalie in a civil yap area. they will not stop.

in the eastern city of ben gas -- ben benghazi, an ammunitions dump exploded killing 26 people. tens of thousands of displaced foreign workers are strand at border towns. two u.s. air force cargo planes brought water and blankets to the refugees. the red cross is asking the u.s. for more help. >> what we need mainly are airplanes to bring these people home. >> reporter: there is no sign the battle for control of the city or the humanitarian crisis in libya will end anytime soon. abc news. benghazi. eastern libya. >> alan: back in the bay area police are asking for the public's help in catching a large group of suspects they say assaulted and robbed a man at the redwood city caltrain station-leaving him in critical

condition. the attack happened at 7:30 last night at the station on james avenue. investigators say a group of nine to 15 suspects carried out a strong-arm robbery of a 47-year-old san jose resident while he was waiting for a southbound caltrain. the suspects fled before police arrived. but investigators are following up on potential leads. inch. pg&e is launching a grueling round the clock search for every document related to the gas transmission pipeline system. 300 fulltime workers are sifting through thousands of boxes of paperwork, some dating back to the 1920s. the california pentagon utilities commission issued the order after last september's pipeline explosion in san bruno that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. workers are sorting at several locations, including this one at the cow palace in daly city. they have a deadline of march 15th.

perpetuating of discrimination. i don't think that's what the american people have as their priority. >> alan: pelosi was at pier 70 with ed lee to emphasis the importance of investing in shipping ports to create more jobs. >> hundreds of dog owners had their say on a plan to restrict where their pets can roam in the golden gate gallon recreation area. right now dogs can rome off leash in nearly the buyer area, but the park system wants to limit that area to protect the wildlife. one idea calls for banning dogs all together from muir beach in marin. dog owners say it punishes everybody for the bad behavior of a few. >> several areas where dogs would not be allowed and those are designed to protect resources. >> the plan is almost dramatic

that we're going to invest more in the cleanliness of the trains. >> alan: all of this comes after the bay guardian conducted an experiment with a biology lab. they discovered mold and antibiotic resistant back bacteria on the cloth cushions. a b.a.r.t. spokesman says the findings are not surprising considering 330,000 commuters ride b.a.r.t. every day. >> the former mistress of convicted wife killer scott peterson is being sued. amber frey dated speederson and testified for the prosecution at his trial. now frey is being saud by -- sued by an author for breach of contract. and they're asking for frey to pay $250,000 or renew her cooperation on two books.

price-fixing scheme among international airlines. prosecutors claim airlines conspired to inplate fuel century charges between 2000 and 2006 to make up for lost profits. to date, 21 airlines have paid more than $1.7 billion in fines. 19 executives have been charged with wrong-doing, including four who have gone to prison. the airlines include british airline, korean air and air france klm. no major u.s. carriers have been charged. >> a tornado caused major damage in louisiana. officials say at least 100 homes and a dozen businesses were destroyed this morning in the town. 1500 other residents have been evacuated until at least tomorrow because of a ruptured gas line. a 21-year-old woman was killed while trying to protect her daughter when a tree found on their house. the tornado cut a swath of destruction at least a quarter

all the green is actually reaching the ground but suffice to say things are getting a little more moisture -- moist out there. petaluma also, novato a few sprinkles earlier today. sausolito, most of it is obviously north of the golden gate bridge but overnight tonight i -- it will spread across the bay area. tonight, upper 40s to low 50s across much of the bay area. here's a look at the system. today it was high pressure really bringing a nice ridge, keeping the moisture band to the north. this system moves in overnight. rain could be heavy at times special early tomorrow morning and then this sim system will move out and the rain will turn to scatters showers. 5:00 this afternoon, most of the moisture is north of the golden gate.

>> alan: coming up at 6:00, the navy corpsman returns home to the bay area to an outpouring of community support and case of possible carbon monoxide poisoning in san francisco. two people had to be hospitalized. >> a surprising discovery at a construction site in southern santa clara county. construction workers noticed a large bird flying from an alcove, and they found several small eggs belonging to the barn oil. -- owl. the eggs stand a better chance of survival in an incubator and are expected to hatch in 30 days. we'll keep you up to date on those baby
