>> alan: the guardian angels hit the streets of the police tonight, trying to keep the peace. san francisco police had already stepped up its enforcement activities after a series of stabbings and shootings blamed on a gang war. >> reporter: san francisco police have said the past year things have been pretty quiet here in the mission district. but the stabbings you mentioned, and two shootings, one which left a 24-year-old dead, have police concerned that the gang activity is stepping up though, guardian angels stepped in.

the guardian angels are on patrol in the mission district. police say a shooting last saturday led to a rival gang's trashing of the victim victim's memorial on the corner of 17th that produced another shooting where a man was wounded by more than one of a dozen shots. enter the guardian angels. >> we're having a little situation with the gang wars. so we're here hopefully to make a presence. >> reporter: six guardian angels are patrolling mission street. the angels believe they can deter violence by their mere presence. >> if we have a probable cause we can make a citizen's arrest. >> they give some comfort to people who frequent the district. >> nice to see some authority on the streets. so, i think it will keep it safe for the neighborhood. >> make you feel safe center. >> it does. >> reporter: but this mission district resident, the presence

of the angels is all smoke. >> it's security theater, like the airport, they try to make you feel safer enthe they're not doing anything that preventz crimes from taking place. >> reporter: the guardian angels have patrolled the streets of the mission in the past. he says the angels make the situation worse, not better. >> the guardian angels won't make a different? >> don't make no difference. okay? angels only walking around, and call the police? and making more angry to the gang members. >> reporter: he says the gang members only fight each other and actually protect the neighborhood. >> gang member never bother people. he take care of everybody. >> reporter: the gang members? >> yes. >> reporter: the gang members take care of everybody? >> yes. >> reporter: not a claim supported by the police. they say gang activity is on the rise, and whatever help they can get is welcome.

green, too. so more is gathering off the coast. we'll let you know how long it will be with us later. >> alan: security has been ramped up at caltrans' redwood city station after a group attacked a man waiting for a train. the attack happened at the station on james avenue last night. a group of nine to 15 suspects robbed and beat the 47-year-old san jose resident. anyone with information should contact the san mateo county transit police. the contra costa county sheriff's department says it arrested one of its own deputies. steven tanabi, for conspiracy to possess and sell drugs, all part of a larger investigation that started with the arrest of a contra costa county enforcement team commander normal welsh. this is welsh in court when he plead not guilty to stealing drugs from an evidence locker and selling them.

paperwork, some dating back to the 1920s. the california public utilities commission issued the order after the pipeline explosion that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. workers are sorting at several locations, including this one at the cow palace. they have have taken days to coy the request. >> a fierce debate between dog owners and park officials. a public meeting was held to discuss a dog management plan today, and park officials pointed out a growing up in or visitors is resulting in a growing number of conflicts involving dogs. park officials are proposing several alternatives, including on and off leash areas. the dogowners say this alien yates them. >> what this really is about is getting people out of the parks, and most of them people that go to the area, especially like ocean beach, are really there with their dogs.

we'll see most of the shower activity, the heaviest well to the north of the golden gate bridge, then by 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, the front moves through and we'll pick up moderate ray. by tomorrow afternoon, the rain will turn scattered showers, and then by tomorrow night, we'll see the clearing and the winds will pick up, bringing us a cooler day on monday. rainfall, maybe a half inch cross the bay area, maybe an inch north bay, and down towards the santa cruz mountain areas, that's it, and it will be a fast, mover. most of the moisture comes in tomorrow morning, winter weather advisory until 10:00 tomorrow. a above the 6500-foot level. we're looking at five inches at the lake level. the highs for sunday, breaks and scattered showers. upper 50s to near 60 goings. san francisco, 57. in the north bay, probably see some sun breaks late in at the
