at least 16 lightning strikes from our camera. there was lightning reported at pacifica and san raphael. let's check and see what's in store this weekend. hi lisa. >> yeah, officially our last full day of winter, but really you feel very much like winter right on through next week and shows most of the activity in the north bay and the south bay, highway 1 and highway 101 getting wet here from santa rosa down through grown are park and a little further to the east, they're moving on to san francisco across the bay bridge into oakland and also most of us get well in walnut creek this morning and with some showers and the heavier downpours, down by gill roar and hollister into the santa cruz mountains and we'll see a break this morning and high winds that will begin to gust later on this afternoon into the overnight hours with some more very, very heavy rain

right after tomorrow morning. i'll talk about that and a week of very wet weather to come, a little bit later. >> thanks so much lisa. >> pg and e crews are working to prepare two storm related east bay power outages that affects 6600 customers last night and right now the biggest outage affects 1800 pge customers, and another outage in berkley still has 1250 customers in the dark. other outages last night in the north bay and peninsula are back online and no outages were reported in the south pay. the thunderstorms that knocked out east bay power around eight last night delivered more than thunder and lightning. there was hail coming down in albany. this video was shot at the target store parking lot. the large hail stones can cause damage to vehicles these are pea-sized and not likely to cause any damage and they got a heavy downpour of ice near

allpine and the resident robert soto says it's a spectacle in his neighborhood. >> i heard a lot of loud noise and i looked out the window and see the hail coming down. and so then i stepped outside and say it's snowing on the ground. only chunks of ice size of bb's. so, then anyway-- >> and hail occurred and thunderstorms with strong updrafts down drafts and tiny ice particles get bigger with each cycle and eventually falling to the ground. high surf continues along the coast and the stormy weather is having an impact on the supply of fresh fish and crab and they have that part of our storm watch. >> in half moon bay. waves crashed against the break wall and boat owners at pillar point harbor prepared for the storm hours ago. and many doubled up on the lines to help tie down their phones. but the concern is this. >> that's a tornado touch down.

>> it was actually a water spout, just off ocean beach in san francisco. it was caught on video by a viewer and sent to you report, powered by youtube, but if the twister had happened over land, it would have been called a tornado and half moon bay instead, swells are expected to reach 12 feats. prompting a small craft advisory. many local fishing boats are not going out to sea and it's having an impact on phee food retailers, like the market. >> we're wondering if we have local halibut. we don't have any because of the weather. >> the fish market sold out of whole halibut and rock fish and crab supply is low. >> any idea how much of a loss for the weekend? >> probably 30%. >> in santa cruz the bad weather isn't just having an impact on the harbor closed for a full week since last week's tsunami, it's ham berg cleanup efforts. today, divers were forced to

suspend operations until further notice and the only one that seems to enjoy this weather were three surfers near half moon bay. >> and trying to see some big waves. >> the big waves kept coming in and high tides rolled in the at pacifica at 12:02 a.m. in pacifica, abc 7 news. >> just after that water spout at ocean beach the national weather service issued a tornado warning for nearby san mateo county around 11 a.m. yesterday. belmont police sent out tweets to let people know and moved students away from the windows. the warning expired at 11:30 in the morning with no twist are touching down. a tornado no one saw coming touched down yesterday morning in santa rosa. no one was hurt thankfully. abc 7 talked to the owner of a landscaping company that took a direct hit. the winds kicked up and i was looking outside and the trees were just blowing like crazy and i could hear all the debris on

my front porch, just blow over. i thought maybe there was a small explosion somewhere and it was just a lot of rumbling and to the right there was a big gust of wind went down, picked up the shed, moved it up in the air, and went over on the pacific street. the corrugated metal hawninging up in the telephone booth and there was corrugated metal in the trees over across the street. it just picked up the whole roof and the building and just tore it right out of the ground. we had cement pillars down in the ground and the winds sucked right out of it. so it's quite a bit of force. >> so the funnel cloud, twister came right through our shed. >> and our gate was open and i think the force of it just sent it right in half and brought it over it that side. >> that's it? >> and tactful as a matter of fact, look over there. i just saw nor piece of metal up in the tree. >> that is your roof. the part of your roof. your neighbor's yard on the tree? >> yeah. >> is that was vick lee

reporting. meantime, we have some breaks news to report, a fire is burning in the east bay hills at children park corporation yard and a large building is destroyed there as you can see as fire crews from berkley fire and or agencies are working to put out the fire. no agencies reported so far and the cause is unknown at this hour. we'll have more information as it becomes available. coming up next mounting tensions in libya, a war plane is shot down near a rebel city and moammar gaddafi issued a defiant warning to international forces. elevated radiation levels are reported from farms near the fukushima nuclear complex in japan as firefighters try to cool overheated fuel rods at the crippled plant.

within hour. leaders say gaddafi is ignoring. a burning jet falling out of the sky over the rebel held city of benghazi. leaders say they shot down a pro gaddafi jet as it attempted to bomb the city after the cease-fire. it could be a rebel fighter jet there are reports. before leaving for south america, president obama issued an ultimatum from the white house, warning gaddafi that an including establishing a he no ply zone over libya. >> left uncheck we have every reason to believe that gaddafi would commit atrocities to his people and thousands would day. the a humanitarian crisis would ensue and the entire reason could be destabilized endangers our allies and partners. >> and the president said the u.s. ground forces would not be

involved in any ground action in libya. to the latest news in japan. japanese officials say radioactive iodine has been detected in tokoyo drinking water as well as other areas and japan's government says that spinach and milk taken from farms 20 miles from crippled nuclear plants have radiation 20 times above the limit. and the water trucks are now pumping sea water directly on to unit three to keep it from a total meltdown and crews are working to try and reconnect four of the six reactors to japan's power grid by today or tomorrow. and abc's diana avlear has more. >> remembering all they have lost fighting to keep what they have left. the japanese people came together in a moment of silence friday at the hour the earthquake staggered their nation one week ago and prayed for their dead. for the living the struggle is just beginning.

fire trucks hosed down crippled nuclear reactors for a second day at the fukushima complex. and continued to risk their lives in the process. like these firemen who volunteered for the job. some plant workers recall the awful moment last friday. >> it was shaking violently for a long time. i was very scared while it was shaking. the building shook side ways and the lights went out. i held on to a post because i thought the switchboard was going to collapse. the u.s. continues to help trying to restore power to the plants. but five huge water pumps standing by for action. meanwhile, the all right break continues. this man is still looking for his wife. even though i have lost everything he says, it would it would be okay if she were still alive. this boy, can't find his parents. he carries signs with their names and the message, i will come back at eleven o'clock tomorrow, please wait. >> and yet, there are glimmers of hope. two cousins overjoyed at finding

later on tonight. a live look outside from our camera. don't have any rain in the greater san francisco area. there's a little shower to the south of us and show you that in just a moment and the main activity to the north and cold air is in place and a little bit of rain-snow mix around mount st. helena. and doppler radar hd see the pink and the white down here and the mountain and lake port looking at a little bit of snow farther south into marin county and over to the east, american canyon looking wet and also very heavy snow on the way to the fairfield area, just pulling out of napa. be be careful if you're out there this morning and closer look around oakland into alameda. some light shower activity is pulling out of belmont. 280. san mateo and a little bit of wet weather and more concentrated rain is here headed into gilroy into hollister and salenas, you can still see some cells off shore.

so, a little bit of colder air has moved in overnight and looking at the low 40's from napa, to santa rosa and concorde at 47. san francisco 39 degrees in redwood city. so, with showers and thunderstorms last night still snow levels at 2500 to 3,000 feet and we could see some heavier downpours and some of the rain bands this morning and overall a little bit of a break for this afternoon when we're looking at some heavier rain and some gusty winds by this evening. as the cold front sits off shore. so we do have a high wind watch in effect for later on this afternoon. and through the evening hours tonight as you're planning on going out tonight. it's going to be a very stormy night. we're going to see some gusty winds and the rain will begin in earnest, again this afternoon. and continue to pick up through the overnight hours. so the first system is pushed on through and the second system is right here, and it's got low pressure off shore and tons of moisture headed our way and very gusty winds. so, it's the first system to the

south and east of us and we are looking at all of this that yet has to move on through the bay area. so, here is the time line on it. five o'clock this morning and scattered showers, and i'm pausing it right here, throughout this afternoon and you see the heavier cells in santa rosa off the coast of half moon bay and then by the evening hours, the winds begin to pick up and take a look what happens if you're going out tonight, eleven o'clock tonight. very heavy rain and even heavier rain has it comes through the wee hours of the morning at three o'clock and then by about eight o'clock tomorrow morning, the front is behind us and the cleanup begins. we'll look for our somewhat of a dry afternoon and then by your monday morning commute, we've got more showers on the way, and that's going to set the stage for a very rainy week. we're talking anywhere from to four inches in the mountains of the north bay, and inch and a half to three inches on the peninsula and two and a half inches in the the south bay. today, 53 san francisco. and the rain will continue to pick up this afternoon as well

that's going to change. you can see from the live camera we have a few breaks out there and first take you to the mountains where we still have a winter storm warning in effect until eight o'clock. and a couple of inches left and things will taper off until we get another foot tomorrow. and wind gusts up to 100 miles an hour over the weekend. not a good idea to head there, and with the winter storm watch in effect right through monday evening, after the winter storm warning expires and back home, we're looking at a few areas of of partly cloudy skies here in san francisco, but not the case to the north or the south. where rain continues to fall on live doppler radar hd. shows a concentration of rain up towards santa rosa and down by salenas, in between, just a little bit after break out there. the colder air has moved in behind yesterday's system so around mount st. helena and lake county, a rain-snow mix right now. clover dale the light rain. further south, in fact, pretty

good downpours, pulling out of fairfield this morning and a little area of rain here around berkley, pushing out into orina and a little west and heavier showers, with a little bit of rain-snow mix through the santa cruz mountains and mount hamilton and hollister and you can see more areas of moisture off shore, so that will keep the showers going today and then they'll increase throughout the afternoon and the evening you hours, as well as the wind and the next storm system has sped up a little bit and we'll see it through the overnight hours, instead of holding back until tomorrow morning, and so getting started sooner with this big storm. 42 in concorde 47 in san francisco. it's 39 in redwood city and we saw the lightning strikes and the scattered showers and thunderstorms, and maybe a few left over this morning and the low snow levels the powerful storm hits overnight tonight. we're talking about high winds, up to 60 miles an hour for later

on this evening, into tomorrow with the potential for downed trees and power lines we are as saturated as we can get right now. with what's to come it's not going to take much for this very wet soil to give way. we're looking for troughs of moisture. lots of rain headed our way, through the overnight hours. so, here is a look at yesterday's system that's pushed on through and we've got wind and rain poised off shore just before midnight that's going to really slam into the coast. so by this afternoon two o'clock, we've got heavier rain pushing in all along the coast. pushing eastward throughout the late evening hours, you see the plans tonight heavy downpours gusty winds, look what happens to the overnight hours. we've got even heavier rains headed our way, but by about seven o'clock tomorrow morning, it's behind us and we'll see a brack throughout the day on sunday, and then by the monday

>> it's the only rescue center of its kind in the oakland berkley and alameda area the last resort for wild animals, hit by cars attacked by dogs or lost their mothers. as we told you, animals are evicted because the landlord has other plans for the property. volunteers searched for a new home and they're finally getting one. >> the first here is the infirmary to keep the animals in cages after they come in and they're stabilized. >> this is the beginning of the new wild life center, on a private lot just a few blocks from the old center in the oakland hills. the labor is all volunteer. >> we're building a containment area for baby squirrels to come in. >> money for the relocation came from a grant and $15,000 in donations from people who learned with the center's polite from the media including abc 7 news. >> i can get upclose with the animals and have an impact. wild life for us all. >> the co-founder and director of the center volunteers as many
