>> alan: major storm damage and flooding all over the bay area tonight. a wall of water floods downtown cap cap to la. now closed and evacuated. others are out of their homes bass of weak 'king hillsides. the ring has been -- the rain has been relentless, and things started coming apart. leigh glaser that the numbers. >> leigh: we still have some rain out there. the live doppler 7hd still picking up a few light lingering showers. thing before of the storm has paced -- passed the bay area. east bay, a few lingering

showers near the at morgan hills. here's the rainfall totals overnight and this morning. almost close to an inch for mill valley. close to an inch for san francisco. and lesser amounts towards the east bay with livermore less than a quarter inch. we have one more storm system to get through. it will bring us some light rain tomorrow night, then after that, beautiful week ahead. get to that coming up. >> alan: as we showed you, downtown capitola was inundated with a wall of water this morning. lisa amin gulezian is there live to show us what it looked like at its height. >> lisa: alan, things look very different. this morning the water went up to the front steps of the restaurant behind me, and a

river of water flowed this this mobile home park. crews have made headway but it's a muddy mess. this is what rushed into downtown capitola this morning two to three feet of muddy, dirty, likely contaminated, water. >> damage has been done. >> lisa: the damage is everywhere. spreading from the mobile home park to capitola village. official says heavy rain and flash flooding are to blame for the wall of water. it happened as crews were repairing a massive storm drain that burst in the same area thursday. as of yesterday it and the sink hole it caused were drying out. >> it's a step backwards. we were pretty surprised. the national weather service did give the possibility of heavy rain, and we got it again, and with the soil being so saturated, it didn't take much to cause a torrent of water to come don the hill.

>> lisa: and straight into businesses like this one. >> standing water. >> a river running through my building. so, it's pretty sad. >> lisa: the disappointment is now on display. people came from all over just to see what happened to downtown capitola. police finally forced people off capitola avenue, so the cleanup could begin. getting these out of the street was a priority. then police found another problem. a gas leak. >> this month alone, we have been out to evacuate at least three times, with this tsunami warning, and then with the two flood warnings here, and now the gas leak, it's just ongoing. >> lisa: health inspectors came through and said the gas issue has been resolved. still, capitola avenue is closed to drivers but it open to ped --

pedestrians, bus officers are telling people to stay away. live in capitola. lisa amin gulezian abc-7 news. >> alan: downed trees and mudslides wreaking havoc on the roadways and there's a nasty mess for drivers headed south on highway 17 to the santa cruz area. the right lane is closed just -- there's no word when the roadway will re-open in mill valley, mudslide forced three families out of their homes. residents of ethel avenue say the slide has not covered their homes about the mud under the road is washing it away and is disrupting water service for in residents. hillsides are slipping all over the bay area, including san pablo where two families are getting out while they have time. you can see howl -- how the slide is threatening six homes. we're live in the neighborhood with more.

>> reporter: alan, a busy day in the house behind me where friends have been helping the walker family get all their belongings out of their home here. it is one of six homes in some jeopardy here. this one considered not safe enough to spend the night. as a result of the land behind the home starting to collapse. >> i got it. >> ready? >> for heon walker, moving day was not a choice. it was suite and sudden and sad for him and his wife that bought this house seven years ago. >> i can understand how people lose their house to foreclosures, how they feel. no time to do anything. nothing. just had to move. >> reporter: since lanight the sidewalk and brick has opened up by another foot. the landscaping collapsed and started sliding down the hill like a giant blob filled with mud, grass, and standing trees. >> i spoke to my insurance company, and they said they were

going to send a soil engineer out here monday. i told them they needed to send a disaster team out here today. >> reporter: all of the land is shifting into the backyard of this home. they're packing up and moving out. a leaning pine tree is a constant reminder of the danger. >> our biggest concern is those tree right there. going to be a direct hit. so, helping my aunt and uncle move. >> reporter: landslides are nothing now here. a former neighbor showed us this photo of a home that was next to the walker's house which collapsed in the 70s. >> the house shouldn't have been put there. if they slide down once and you don't take remedial measures, it's going slide down again and that's precisely what happened and it's no coins coincidence it's right in the same spot. >> a engineer was documenting

the shifting earth. >> looking at the records for the area, an active slide yeah, like any other hillside in the bay area. so we're doing a records search and the soils engineer can give us a better idea all the work that has been done in this area. >> reporter: the city is also checking neighbor claims that there is a natural spring or perhaps some undergroundwater in this land that is making the earth unstable. that has not been confirmed. the city is also putting the walkers up in a hotel for a couple days because they are saying they're house is unsafe and they're yellow tagging it. also, one other home. the back deck of a neighboring home is now offlimits because of concerns about the shifting earth. abbas -- abc-7 news. >> alan: in san francisco, a pair of huge boulders broke away from a hill and hit two parked cars. it happened in the golden gate park neighborhood. no one was hurt but the street has been shut down.

officials say it will stay shut down at least until 24 hours after the rain has stopped. just to make sure that hillside is stabilized. >> let's move on to the peninsula where highway 84 is completely shut town between wouldside and skyline. the landslide has trees blocking the highway out bit -- but it's expected to re-open in the next hour. finally, in santa cruz county, part of this road has washed away. this is happening near mt. herman road, and traffic is down to one lane. the road leads to a community that is trying to dig itself out of a land slide that brokeaway earlier this week. you can upload your weather photos and video to ureport.abc7news.com. you can e-mail them to us at ureport@kgo tv.com.

>> alan: theirs a glitch in flight planning software that forcedded the cancellation of 95 horizon and alaska airline flights. it resulted in the airline scrapping 12% of the schedule before the problem was fixed. one alaska flight out of oakland international was cancelled and three others were delayed by as much as two hours. officials say passengers will be rebooked or put on other airlines. >> conditions in the sierra are perfect for skiers, but not for drivers. excess snow is making driving especially dangerous. this is eastbound i-80 a few minutes ago at king vail. chengs are required from placer county to the donner lake interchange. no chain controls on highway 50 but there's a high wind advisory from sacramento to el dorado

county line. have you had enough yet? >> leigh: truckee right now, 36 degrees and reporting light rain. so temperatures starting to drop off, the snow will start accumulating there. yeah, in a nice way, most of the bay area seeing the setting sun. this is a shot from the high definition east bay cam. spinning around and looking across the bay, we show you another shot from the sutro camera, the marin headlands -- they're changed it -- ocean beach there. you can see the clouds and clear breaks, too. it -- checking in with live doppler 7hd. most of the activity is moving towards the east and looks like we'll have dry conditions this evening. temperaturewise we're in the 50s. antioch, 53. and los gatos, 55 degrees. so here's a look at the highlights. partly cloudy conditions

tonight. maybe a little mist and drizzle but most of the rain has ended temporarily. patchy fog overnight. and light rain will return by sunday afternoon. this is a very weak system. and then get ready for monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, dry conditions, and much warmer by the end of the week. we're going to be in the 70s. here's a look at the lows. 42 for napa. 48 san francisco, oakland, 46. and 44 for san jose. this is the storm system. it is now going to exit the state with a little break here. this is the next system, a weak system to the west, and this will slide in here by tomorrow afternoon to bring us light rain. here's a look at the timing. take a look at the animation. keep the bay area dry overnight. by tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., a dry start. if you have plans, do it tomorrow morning. by 1:00, 2:00, the batch of lying rain will -- light rain

will move in and will be out of here by 1:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and that will set up a nice drivetime for us, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 a.m. commute time on monday. how much rainfall can you expert? quarter inch in the north bay. other locations, maybe trace amounts. so that's good news. be able to dry out a little bit the first part of next week. winter storm warning in effect until 7:00 tonight, and one, maybe two feet of snow, for the higher el -- elevations. whiteout conditions, travel delays, and possibly later tonight some road closures. highs for sunday, the morning hours will be the best bet. late afternoon, the showers start to develop in the north bay, but generally upper 50s to 6 degrees -- 60 degrees for the bay area. by monday we should bring the sun out to warm things up. tuesday, wednesday, thursday,
