new pictures are emerging of a hole that opened up in a sacramento-bound southwest airlines jet. now similar airplanes being pulled for inspection and hundreds of flights have been cap cancelled. investigates from the ntsb are in arizona, trying to find out what caused the incident. video and photos taken by passengers are still emerging today. southwest flight 812 was bound from phoenix to sacramento yesterday when a hole about four feet long opened up above an overhead compartment. it caused a drop in cabin pressure, and one flight attendant was hurt when he passed out from lack of oxygen and hit his nose.

the pilots made a rapid descent in arizona. >> we will be very carefully looking at this particular event to see if there are system-wide deficiencies that need to be addressed. >> you felt really dizzy like you were going to black out. >> the plane's 118 passengers were put on another flight which handed -- landed safefully sacramento last night. southwest cancelled 300 flights nationwide to inspect the aluminum skin on dozens of older both 737s. according to a flight tracking web site, that includes 20 flights at oakland, 19 in san jose, 15 -- and 12 in san francisco international. tomas roman found plenty of disgruntled papgers, including some who are waiting out long

a flight from phoenix to sackett testimony. southwesterly issued this statement: the safety of our customers and employees is our primary concern. we're working closely with boeing to conduct these inspects. we're working aggressively to minimize the impact to our customers' travel schedules today. that being said, some travelers at sfo don't know when they'll reach their destination. >> i don't know. still waiting in line. >> the same is true at oakland where the departure board showed more than a dozen flights to cancel. >> we're told that our flight was cancelled, and our next available flight was 12 hours from that flight cancellation. >> many of the flights missed were connecting flights, which has doubled and tripled travel times for some people. while some passengers are worried about getting on a 737, they welcome the inspections. >> i want to be on a safe plane so i'm glad they're checking planes. southwest could have handled it

better. >> reporter: those 737-300s are being inspected at five different locations. there's no word yesterday how long the inspects will take. if you're planning to take a southwest flight tomorrow, the airline suggests you check the web site before leaving home. >> alan: los angeles police are hoping people recognize two men suspected of attacking a giants fan after the home opener at dodger stadium thursday night. ploiption re -- police released the drawings of two suspects who kicked giants fans, leaving one unconscious. one of the men was so badly beaten doctors had to put him into a medically induced coma. police are examining the footage from stadium cameras. >> they hit his head and kicked him. there's a full investigation going on now trying to identify the suspects and other possible

witnesses. >> alan: witnesses were also able to give police detailed descriptions of the suspects, including a distinctive tack few. >> in santa cruz, police suspect a man of leaving two suitcases in a bank lobby. it happened at the bank of the west on pacific pacific avenue. officers thought the luggage might be explosive, to police closed off the block and recrowdded traffic. while the bomb squad was working, grant anderson of santa cruz wandered up and asked about his suggest suitcases. police allowed him to get hit bag and then arrested him for trespassing. he has a history ofber fearing with interfering with business in the area. capitola is back open for business. crews removed mud and debris

firefighters struggled with a stubborn hydrant while a fully engulfed home threatened the homes around it. firefighters were preparing to conduct a rescue when word got back that the elderly couple who lives there was out shopping. the family's dog also escaped, and firefighters had it are in crowell -- control in 30 minutes. witnesses could see it burning from clear across the bay. overseas, anger over the burning of a muslim holy book at a florida church has fueled a second day of deadly violence inia. demonstrators set cars and shops on fire in canada -- can kandahar. >> anger has turned into protests.

the police shot into the crowd, killing nine, injuring 8. brutally, they prevented what happened yesterday. protesters overrung police in northern afghanistan, and murdering seven u.n. members. all this was sparked by terry jones, a fringe preacher with a tiny following, when he burned the koran. on night "nightline" he was unrepenalty tent. >> we do not feel responsible. we feel more that the muslims used that as an excuse. >> what's your message to someone like that? >> if he did look at me at this moment, i would tell him my three colleagues and died and the seven all together died were very good people. so you should be feeling guilty and should not do that. >> reporter: today, protest wasn't the only violence. two suicide bombers dressed in berk cas tried to storm a u.s. base in kabul. the people were injured.

>> alan: in san francisco, five people received healthy kidneys in one of the largest kidney exchanges ever performed in california. the san francisco chronicle reports the swap took place yesterday during a series of operations at california pacific medical center. the procedure is known as a paired donation. that's when a healthy loved one of a transplant candidate donates a kidney to a stranger in the situation and so on until everyone is matched. the british royal wedding is less than a month away, but right now the best man is stuck in the arctic circle, waiting to start a trek towards the north pole. prince hairy are -- prince harry is raising funds. bad weather has stopped the start of the trip. they hope to set off tomorrow afternoon. prince harry will only camp with the group for four nights. excuse me.

sfo, winds out of the west. those winds are dying down. santa rosa, a northerly point shift. here's a look hat highlights for you as we head through the evening. continue with breezy conditions near the coast and the higher elevation hills. a breezy day tomorrow with passing clouds and as we head into mid-week, that's when our best chance of the bay area seeing some showers. you can see the frontal system right here to the north of the golden gate bridge. seeing some clearing, but right in the area, we're picking up possibly a few sprinkles. these reporting stations not reporting anything at all except for cloudy skies. the higher elevations, if you're above a thousand feet, maybe a sprinkle or 0 two. all of this will move out as the front continues to sag on towards the south. we'll take the sprinkles out of the forecast. temperature wise, the clearing
