that wreckage. >> that small plane went down around 3:40 this afternoon in the water new dolittle drive. the pilot had just taken off from the oakland airport. firefighters are on the scene. lillian kim is there as well to bring us the latest. >> reporter: carolyn, emergency crews from alameda and oakland are here responding to the plane crarchlt -- crash. the federal aviation administration says the plane that crashed is a single-engine plane that crashed shortly after take off from the airport. rescue crews say there was only other pilot onboard and they presume he did not survive the

crash. the pilot was heating straight to a recreation area where a family was sitting at a picnic table. >> the airplane coming like through here, around the shoreline, the engine cut off and the crash into the shoreline right there. but i guess he was trying to level it. but there was a family there and i guess he didn't want to kill them or anything. but other than that, yeah, we rushed over there, try to help him out. all of us here, my dad as well over there, and we tried to get him out, but the mud was too dense. >> reporter: last we spoke to emergency crews, they were working on removing the body from the plane. they depend have too many details. we hope to happen more information for abc-7 news at 6:00. live in oakland, lillian kim, abc-7 news. >> carolyn: thank you, lillian. federal investigators say a gaping hole that opened up in a southwest airlines jet showed

signs of preexisting metal fa team. flight 812 was intownd from phoenix to sacramento friday. at 34,000 feet, a hole five feet long opened up in the fuselage. the national transportation safety board said the rupture started along a joint where two sections of the skin are rivetted together. investigators are cutting out the damaged area. the faa does not require airlines to do searches for those types of cracks because it did not believe that could happen. >> this is basically something that comes but -- about with age and utizeation. it's not fleet-wide. >> southwest is inspecting dozens of boeing 737 airplanes and cancelled another 300

flights nationwide. we're live at the airport where we found plenty of unhappy passengers. >> you can see why. 600 flights grounded so far this weekend, and we found some people today who have been stuck trying to get home for two days now. so far the best advice is if you have to catch a southwest flight, call ahead before you dom the airport. this is the unlucky half of the high school jazz band trying to get home to nebraska. they're holding tickets for a cancelled southwest flight and are stranded in san francisco. and these kids laughing are in the lucky half of the band. they booked their tickets on a different airline and are headed home. >> trying to charter a bus. be $9,000, and you know, we're a public high school. it's not like we can write checks. >> other passengers on cancelled flights had no choice but to pay

pick bucks to buy last-minute tickets on different airlines. they couldn't wait another day so she went to the delta you can. >> they were doubling and tripling the price. we spent $1,000 to get home. >> as inspectors investigate the emergency landing, their airline cancelled 300 flights for a second day in a row to inspect boeing 737s, planes who have not had their skin replaced. the inspections are expected to take several days. >> the aircraft well-maintained, should it have been maintained better? that's why we're here to look at why this problem occurred, why this event happened. >> in oakland, there was plenty of confusion and long waits to go with it. >> we had no idea it was delayed that long until we were checking into our flight. >> whether the destination was

phoenix, baltimore, las vegas, the board said the same thing, and passengers said the same thing, too. >> very frustrated. i don't know what we're going to do. >> well so far, around the bay area, oakland's airport was hit the hardest. 30 grounded southwest flights there today. here out of sfo, seven departing southwest flights cancelled. the inspections on the 737s are expected to last until at least tuesday. no word yet from southwest as to what is happening tomorrow. reporting at san francisco international airport, abc-7 news. >> carolyn: there is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of two suspects who brutally attacked a giants fan outside dodger stadium. 42-year-old brian stow of santa cruz remains in a medically induced coma tonight, four days after he was attacked following the giants' homeopenner in l.a.

he is a paramedic and fourth -- father who shares custody of his children with his former life. >> he knows he has two children. he knows he needs to be a father to them. and i think he is going to pull through. >> reporter: the l.a. county supervisor who is offering the reward is calling for enhanced security and strict limits on alcohol sales at dodger stadium following that attack. today, l.a. mayor antonio villaraigosa and san francisco mayor ed lee, and the managers of the giants and dodgers, issued a joint statement condemning the violence and asked the community to show support for stow and exercise sportsmanship and mutual respect. >> oakland police are searching for a suspect in a deadly shooting. they say he is armed and dangerous. it the -- the shooting happened last night. one man was killed, another

wounded. he is expected to survive. police are searching for 31-year-old douglas yim, jr. he is 6'0", 205 pounds, last seen driving a veil -- silver four door honda civic, with that license plate. anyone who have seen the man should call 9-1-1. >> crews are close to re-opening highway 101 in humboldt county after tons of mud and rock tumbled on to the roadway last week. highway 101 has been completely closed five miles north of garberville. caltrans expects to re-open to one-way, controlled traffic at 6:00 tomorrow morning. crews are continuing to monitor the stability of the hillside above. at least one moment narrowly missed being carried down with the slide. >> a security breach may have

revealed personal data from companies that use a service that manages 40 billion e-mails annually. epsilon is saying on march 30th, its system was hacked, exposing customer names and e-mail addresses. credit card details and other private information was not exposed. all the companies involved are warning customers to be on the lookout for spam, but asked -- that asked for their personal information. >> japanese engineers have failed in their second attempt to stop a leak of highly radioactive water spilling into the pacific ocean from the damaged nuclear plant. crews have tried to use concrete, sawdust, newspapers, even diaper chemicals to plug the leak, all we no result. the crack is in a maintenance pit. they found no other leaks. officials say it could take several months to get the fugue folk plant under control.

another big fundraiser for japan held by the a's in oakland coliseum. at least 20,000 fans showed up for japanese heritage day before the a's faced off against seattle. the pregame ceremonies including taiko drummers, free t-shirts, and hideki matsui appeared on the field before the first pitch. the a's have raised $50,000 and will donate $1 to every ticket sold to japanese earthquake relief efforts. >> a major recall of turkey burgers. some have already been sick 'ed, possible live by sam nellie. -- salmonella. the baby eagles who are a huge hit on the internet. >> leigh: we're looking live now at angel island out there, spectacular views. a beautiful day. how much longer can we expect this kind of weather?

that crashed near the oakland airport has died. this is a live look. the small plane went down around 3:40 this afternoon in the water near doolittle drive and parkway, the pilot had just taken off. the firefighters are on the scene. we'll bring you more as the story develops. >> actor charlie sheen is getting ready to hit the stage again, this time in chicago, after a disastrous debut last night for his 20-city north american tour which is going to bring him to the bay area later this month. disappointed and angry fans are saying they did not get what they expected. here's more. >> reporter: charlie sheen kicked off his highly anticipated one-man show saturday night in detroit, leaving many fans disappointed at what many considered his outrageous performance. >> so bad, it was -- i mean, i love charlie sheen but i thought

[laughter] >> leigh: our live mt. tam cam looking down over the bay towards the east bay there. you can see the downtown san francisco just spectacular vistas, and visibility. we also managed to warm up a few degrees. here's a look at current readings. temperature weiss, -- temperaturewise, near 70. 68 in antioch. 67 livermore. san francisco, as well as the coast, half moon bay in the upper 50s. we're getting into a pretty strong sea breeze there with westerly winds kicking up at 20 miles-per-hour. oakland, at 13. we're seeing the wind shifting.

fairfield, 13. concord, and that means the winds will be moving more offshore monday, and that's going to translate to warmer temperatures tomorrow. we're going to go with clear sky overnight. sunny and warmer for monday, and then after that, temperatures will cool down drastically by mid-week and we'll bring in a chance of a few showers. you can see how terrific a day it was. high pressure building in, keeping the storm track to the north. clear skies today. clear skies expected tonight. overnight temperatures in the mid-to-low 40s in the north and east bay, interior valley areas. map -- san jose, 47, and livermore, 44. tomorrow and tuesday. high pressure will be with us. pretty much off the coast. jet stream to the north. get the offshore winds so temperatures will come up
