identified and an investigation is now underway. two fairfield children are tobacco home with their father this morning, that he had been missing since friday when their mother took them shopping and then disappeared for a day and a half. tomas ramon reports from the solano county sheriff's department. >> the children you see jumping up and down are the stewart children that are now a complete family. they are celebrating their reunion after two of them were taken by their mother and not heard for more than 30 hours. >> she stayed in the area. she was in the car with the kids. ate some fast food and learned that we were looking for her. went to travis air force base. >> we were at the home when the call came in the kids had been found. >> the kids are fine and they

were found and they are okay. >> looks like everybody is okay. it appears to be that way. >> we arrived at the sheriff's department just before deputies led her into the building with her hands cuffed behind her back. >> we interviewed mom and dad to determine what has taken place, to determine what kind of crimes have been exited and if so take appropriate action. >> the sheriff's department had put out a missing person's alert for the two children. they initially thought she would do them harm. >> the family says cps has been involved with the family before. they wanted to find out what happened and what the family dynamic is so they can prevent this from happening again. coastguard has called off a search for a man that disappeared in the waters off san francisco's ocean beach. they searched 44 square mile area for more than eight hours

with three boats and a helicopter but failed to locate the victim. rescuers from the fire department, national park service and coastguard rushed to the scene yesterday afternoon where a man and friend were trying to escape their capsized sailboat by climbing into a rubber dingy. >> watching that boat it came to shore and overturned. what we thought had two people had nobody in it. >> firefighters pulled one man from the water and he told them his friend had been wearing a life jacket. a similar jacket washed ashore about an hour later. rescued man's name has not been released is being treated. >> sheriff's deputies are trying learn more about the deaths of two people inside a cupertino home last night. someone called the sheriff's department to check their welfare. inside the home on west baker drive deputies found the bodies of a man and a woman who appear to be in their early 50s.

the medical examiner has not released the names or the cause of their deaths. the hunt continues for the killers of a popular oakland restaurant owner in the fruitvale district. neighbors marched along international boulevard to honor jesus campos and call for an end of the violence that took his life. police say he was shot during a botched robbery attempt while he opened his mexican restaurant on friday morning. >> we got to do our job, we to have put the people away otherwise there will be other people. >> he was a business leader in the district. he encouraged fellow merchants to create a network of surveillance cameras as a way to deter criminals. detectives are now hoping footage from those cameras will help them identify the suspect. >> now that lawmakers have averted a government shutdown, they need to finance the rest of the year.

a relieved president obama spoke at the lincoln memorial this weekend crediting congress for agreeing to cut $38.35 billion from the budget over the next six months. the deal leaves out federal funding for planned parenthood. now, the 2012 battle is shaping up. >> earlier in week the house budget committee announced a new budget and move the debate from billions in spending cuts to tril yongs. >> lawmakers have to decide by the end of the summer to let the government borrow more money to pay for the country's $14 trillion debt. tickets for distracted driving are soaring. according to our media partner mercury news, officers in the bay area issued more tickets two days last week than they usually write across the entire state. 250 police agencies are taking part in an intensive crackdown

lumet is being mourned this morning. he died at his malgtd home. he worked during television during the golden age before going into movies. he directed more than 40 films including network with peter finch, 12 angry men and serpico. he was nominated for five oscars but never won when he was recognized for lifetime achievement. >> they are picking up the pieces in parts of the midwest and southeast after an incredible night of weather. tornados, hail, hundreds of reports of severe weather. casey curry followed the storm. >> it's coming back. >> this is what the giant tornado looked like up close. the twister so big, storm chasers had to keep a safe distance. this is the massive destruction

they caused. roots ripped from houses. one estimates more than 60% of the town is damaged or destroyed. throughout the night rescue crews scoured through the debris and damage looking for those injured or trapped. >> we're going door by door. >> it was a massive outbreak across the region, 27 tornado reports in iowa alone overnight. it struck over 14 states from nebraska to virginia. in north carolina the system brought tragedy and most of the people. >> i felt it. >> one dog was killed. >> this massive system plowed through virginia over the weekend. two tornados struck the town of pulaski on friday night. residents finally saw the destruction, car windows shattered, trees uprooted and nearly all the houses

demolished. >> a bunch of frees were flying and people were yelling and screaming. >> oklahoma, they are coming back from this. hail so big equal in size to baseballs. that was casey curry. she was reporting it's not over yet in the midwest or southeast. >> another round of storms from the ohio valley further to the east. one of those tornados was like a mile wide. it was incredible. fortunately known was killed in that. we're talking about beautiful weather here. no storms to speak of. nice shot from the roof cam. plenty of sunshine to go around. still on the cool side but the accu-weather forecast, i'll tell but next storm system heading our direction by tomorrow in a few minutes. >> carolyn: also ahead, it's not too late to enjoy the cherry blossom festival. it's in san francisco's japantown. dry mouth is uncomfortable.
