just another in series of attacks out there. >> police are investigating a deadly car crash on sonoma county coast. chp says a car drove off of highway 1 shortly after noon. it tumbled down a seaside cliff landing on the rocks and surf. driver was killed. she had no passengers with her. investigators are trying to find out how it happened. >> a downed tree blocked a street and took out cable tv lines around 3:00 and just missed a car parked on the opposite side of the street. the wind was blowing pretty hard and the tree blocked 20th street until city crews were able to move it out of the way. there is a high wind advisory on the bay bridge, travel is not recommended for campers or trailers. >> it's bad enough to lose a child to violence but worse when the murder goes unsolved.

on this mother's day a sad ritual played out where mothers demanded justice for their children. heather ishimaru was there and she joins us now from the newsroom. young urban, often male murder victims can come and go all too quickly. these mothers want us to remember two things. first, that a mother's grief never ends and second, there are murderers out there that so far have gotten away with it. what we want justice like everyone else. >> paulette brown said that her son was killed in august 2006 the suspect was release forward lack of evidence. >> they are walking amongst us now. they are probably standing looking at us right now. >> brown joins other mothers at san francisco city hall pressing for their children's murder cases to be solved, for an end of violence and supporting each other. some like brown and others are

veterans of the annual rally. she grew up in visitacion valley. ever since then the mother says, every year includes a trip to the grave. >> we go on with our regular day. i'll go to the cemetery and clean it up a little on my break. >> this is the first rally. her son was killed in october by a friend that has claimed self-defense. >> i think it's too easy to use a gun. >> in san francisco at least the major obstacle to solving cases is still getting frightened witnesses to come forward. >> we need people to get involved. a lot of times people see these homicides. you can have as many as 200 people witness a homicide but when you get there, no one knows anything. >> there is something different about this year. san francisco police say

homicides are down and that gives them more time to work on the older cases. hetsd health, "abc 7 news." more news tonight on the killing of osama bin laden. president obama says there is no doubt bin laden had a sophisticated support network in pakistan. president says it's still not clear whether the pakistani government knew he was hiding out near the capital. pentagon says it recovered this video during last sunday's raid. it shows bin laden watching himself on television. the national security advisor says the raid was a major blow to al-qaeda. >> i would say two things, the single largest cache from a senior terrorist and the c.i.a. is describing of it as size of a small college library. >> giving access to his three widows who have been in custody

since the raid. >> what authorities are calling a potential security threat diverted a delta airlines flight today. the plane was headed from detroit to san diego when it landed in albuquerque instead. all the passengers and crew were interviewed and re-screened and the plane took off to san diego. it's scheduled to land in about ten minutes. neither the f.b.i. for a spokesman at albuquerque would clarify what that potential threat was but one passenger says the pilot told him a note with the word, bomb written on it was found in the bathroom. >> people living along the swollen mississippi river are deciding whether to stay put and ride it out or pack up and get out of town. it shows where flooding is forecast to hit in the coming days from tennessee to mississippi and then down to louisiana. jim ryan has the details on what could be record-breaking floods. >> the mighty mississippi is on the move. for millions, the river is

>> it's sort of hard because i have to try to explain to him we can't go home because the flood water is so bad. >> up and down the river residents are pulling together, packing sandbags and fielg piling them on up hoping they'll hold off the water. it has force had road closures in three states. once the mississippi crests the high water is expected to linger for days. back here the bay area, nurses striking at children's hospital didn't let mother's day stand in the way of their protest. they held a special mother's day brunch while they continued to protest. today is the fourth day of their five-day strike. nurses are protesting a hospital proposal to change their health benefits co-pay system which they say will reduce coverage for them and their families. >> a san jose city councilmember is admitting he made an error in

judgment after he was arrested yesterday for driving under the influence. ash tower invited the media to his home to apologize. he admitted to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel. they found the blood alcohol to be above the legal limit. tower says he he will take full responsibility. >> i feel terrible for what i did. the bottom line i shouldn't have gotten behind the wheel and i did. i'm now suffering appropriately the consequences of that. >> he is serving first term representing district two in san jose. >> up next, pg&e is set to begin pressure testing on its gas lines tomorrow. what the utility plans to do if it finds weaknesses. mother's day treat for homeless moms. new hairdos and makeup and new outlook on life. >> i'm leigh glaser. it was cool, windy day for mom.

it's monitored for eight hours and any section of pipe that shows weakness will immediately be replaced. the section of gas pipeline in san bruno ruptured last september causing an explosion and fire that killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes. >> rising gas prices are beginning to slow down. analysts expect gas prices to start to gradually decline and ultimately drop by as much 50 cents by june. anticipated drop is due to falling oil prices. currently the national average for a gallon of gas is 3.89, but in san francisco, the average price for a gallon of gas is 4.28. >> and the popularity of iphone has helped apple overtake google as the most valuable brand in the world. the brand top 100 put it the

capitalization at $319 billion, google is at $172 billion. 25 mothers got a special celebration today. homeless women were treated to a complimentary hair and make up session. all 25 women live in a shelter for homeless families in san francisco. >> it's a great opportunity to do something for themselves and let go of all this stuff, everything that comes along with being homeless. >> when they feel good about themselves. ready for job interviews. ready to enroll their kids in school and do the things the families need to get them ready for the next step in life. the hamilton family center is the largest provider of shelter, eviction prevention services and homeless families in san francisco. >> coming up. she was stuck in her van for

bay area. we're going to slowly warm up as we head into the first part of the workweek. beautiful day. from high definition sutro cam. wind is blowing as well and we did see a few cumulus clouds out there, too. here is a look at curbed wind gust. oakland gusts up to 31. sfo up to 36 miles an hour. santa rosa, wind did i with westerly up to 23. gusts in san jose, up to 23 miles per hour. then a few hours, the wind speeds will start to come down a little bit but it will be breezy overnight. oakland is at 68. 61 in antioch. 60 in fairfield. we have 59 in san jose. we'll go with cool temperatures overnight and breezy. temperatures will be slightly warmer as we head into our monday and beyond that, look for temperatures coming back into

the mid and upper 70s as we head through mid-week. satellite radar composite, very weak cold front brushed by the bay area earlier today bringing us clouds. reports of a few sprinkles north of the golden gate bridge, but otherwise we're seeing clearing right now. this is pocket of cool air that settled in over the bay area. this low is going to push on towards the east as we head into our monday. by monday afternoon it will be replaced by higher pressure that is going to bring us warmer temperatures the next few days and a little bit more sunshine. lows tonight with clear skies. temperatures will come down, upper 30s, chilly night for cloverdale, 39 degrees. napa will be at 43. 48 for san francisco and oakland remember the winds will still be with us as well as the bay. 47 in palo alto and 44 overnight tonight in livermore. look at highs for monday as the ridge of high pressure builds in. temperatures will warm a few

degrees. 56 in san jose and on the coast, breezy side, 59 for half moon bay. on the peninsula, 65 for palo alto. san francisco tomorrow, warm to 62 degrees and today you've been in the 50s. a few degrees warmer. santa rosa, 70. 56 for napa. 65 for oakland. interior east bay in the low 70s. concord will warm to 59. 68 for danville. 70 for livermore and look for 65 degrees for santa cruz. accu-weather seven-day forecast, we warm things up as we head into tuesday and wednesday. mid upper 70s expected in interior valley areas with upper 60s, very mild near the bay. enjoy those numbers because next weekend we're going to cool things off a little bit and there is a possibility of some showers saturday night and sunday. we'll keep you updated on that.
