firefighter tony a layerow's body was taken to a van. the silence broken by the rain and his family's tear. the pain hung in the air outside the hospital, a place that was a gathering spot for the hopeful. family and friends had been there around the club. he and the other firefighter were railroad to -- rushed to the hospital after being found in this fire. perez died thursday. >> it's particularly difficult. you're mourning the loss of one, and then to have another one very close, in the same fire, is challenging. >> lisa: for the first time the doctors gave details about the uphill battle the 53-year-old faced, including the fact he was in cardiac arrest the moment he arrived at sf general.

>> between all he injuries from the initial blast, the smoke inhalation, the fact he had really bad lung injury, which was pre tated -- precipitated by what happened on the scene. his his on. >> lisa: on this day, his two families, his work family and his immediate family, realize his 40-hour long fight to survive was over. >> he was my best brother ever. i looked up to him. and i just want to say he will be greatly missed. >> i've had a lot of trouble sleeping. i can't think about life without him right now. >> lisa: the fire department and the families have agreed to have a joint funeral for both men on friday at st. mary's cathedral.

>> alan: san francisco's mayor was among those who rushed to the hospital to support the family. he extended his appreciation for their dedication and sacrifice. >> i'd just like to officially thank vincent perez and anthony a valero for their service. >> alan: governor brownish you'd a statement. and spoke on behalf of his wife, anne, saying we send our deep con doll -- condolences as the mourn the passing of the firefighters. the governor says in honor of the men, flags will be flown at half staff at the capital. >> san francisco fire chief says the department is now reviewing procedures and tactics used by

fairfield area. and some very heavy rain towards vallejo, concord. san ramon. all this activity moving into the clayton area. this is rotating back towards the west as the low pressure is hitting just off the coastline so that's exactly how the moisture bands will continue throughout the evening. fremont, rain. union city, calaveras road, and pockets of rain in morgan hills. it was a record june 4th june 4th rainfall. here's some record. over an inch for san francisco. breaking those record set back mainly in 1993. napa, close to an inch there, and also monterey, a little over half inch. this is a look at the system. it brought us some heavy rainfall between 9:00 and noon today. you can see a bit of the break

near right now. so a lull in the action. this low will bring us a few more scattered showers tomorrow. >> alan: in other news, police in san san san san san -- san je are looking for a gunman. two people died after being shot last night. a second man was treated for injuries. detectives say the victims were drinking beer in front of a house when a man opened fire on them. this is san jose's 23rd 23rd homicide of the year. they recorded a total 206 homicide for all of -- 20 homicide for all of last year. >> the daughter of the suspect in the bryan stow beat say he is innocent. they wanted to talk about the accusations against ram -- ramirez. he says she was with her father on the day of the adynamic, they

in either time or resources. >> alan: president obama has pledged to begin withdrawing american troops from afghanistan in july but no final decisions have been made on the size of the withdrawal. millions of women hat eye risk of breast cancer have a new option for preventing that disease. pfizers a drug cut the risk of developing breast cancer by more than half who were past men pause. the drug did not cause many of the common side effects caused by other prevention drugs like blood clots. the results were discussed today at a cancer conference in chicago, and published in the new england journal of medicine. >> a change of plans for a new stadium for the 49ers. how the project is growing whopped the developer's expect stations. and how long will this soggy weather last? leigh glaser coming up with her forecast.

>> alan: build agnew stadium for the 49ers is going to cost more than $10 million over the original estimate. our media partners at the san jose business journal reported the projected cost is up to $950 million. planners onlily thought it would cost 937 million. a 49ers spokeswoman says the expects the estimates to continue to fluctuate as the project moves forward. construction op on the stadium is set to begin in early 2013.

scattered showers. concord, moderate rain, antioch. vine hill, moderate rain, concord, pleasant hill, and some moderate pockets of rain for morgan hill, towards gilroy. we'll continue with scattered showers overnight. a little more sunshine for us as we head into our sunday, but we're also going to keep some scattered showers in the forecast as well tomorrow. also, the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, and then as we head into next week, get ready for dry and warmer conditions. here's a look at the frontal system area of low pressure. the front out ahead of it bringing the rain, now heading up towards the central valley area can and the sierra. this is a nice break now, but this low is going to sit there and spin and will bring us moisture bands and the instability so look for chance of isolated thunderstorms. look at the forecast animation. 5:00 this evening, you can see most of the activity pretty much

cleared out. even through much of tomorrow, head spoog tomorrow -- heading into tomorrow morning, still in the clear zone, and the low is off the coast, and by noon, look for isolated thunderstorms to develop, by late tomorrow afternoon, area evening hours, and thens night, still a chance of isolated showers into monday morning, and then get ready for clearing sky by monday afternoon. warmer temperatures on tuesday as well. here's a look at our overnight lows tonight. keep it quite mild in the north bay, a little clearing here and there, so look for 40s there mid-to-low 50s elsewhere, and your highs tomorrow, because we'll see a little more sunshine, bring them up into the mid-to-upper 60s for the peninsula. 50s at the coast. 63 downtown san francisco. north bay, mid-to up are 60s for many locations. 66 for oakland. 65 for castro valley.
