>> alan: this is a live look at breaking news. stuck on a saturday evening. a long line of vehicles attempting to get on the bay bridge. they're backed up on i-80 westbound in berkeley. a police incident on the bridge is causing a bottle neck that stretches for several miles. rescue crews are responding to a man on the bridge. tomas, we understand that this gentleman, who was trying to commit suicide, has now come down off the brim. are you off the bridge. are you seeing a difference? >> reporter: not seeing much of a difference in traffic, and we don't know why they man was on the brim, -- bridge, but he was

talked down 20 minutes ago by chp and san francisco police, and has been taken either to san francisco general or san francisco city jail, depending on his situation. but just take a look now. look at the bay bridge. this is westbound on the bay bridge, and this is one of the most massive traffic jams that has occurred here in a long time. traffic is tied up past the island, a quarter mile to where the scene is, and the two right lanes were closed. now -- i don't think we have a view right now or any video. we have chp officer tony tam, who can tell us what went on. how was this resolved? >> 2:40 this afternoon. the chp revved received a call of a possible jumper on the bridge. we got a spanish speaking officer to talk to the

gentleman. approximately 4:40 p.m.le he came back over the bridge rail, and we took him into custody without incident. he was not injured. officers were not injured. at 4:50 all lanes were open, but the traffic backup is still there, and the subject was taken into san francisco general hospital for interview. >> reporter: thank you very much. and again, traffic was backed up into berkeley, about university avenue, and down to broadway on 880, as well as, since the game is being let out, traffic is also backed up to the 280 split. but the situation has been resolved, and the individual has been taken to san francisco general hospital for observation. reporting live in oakland, abc-7 news. >> alan: could take a while. in the wake of his twitter scandal, congressman anthony weiner is now requesting a temporary life of absence from

the house while he seeks professional treatment. his decision comes after top democrats put the sweez on him to outright quit. >> the fallout over graphic photos sent to women online followed anthony weiner home this weekend, where democratic leaders hopes he says. >> i don't have anything to say. >> reporter: nancy pelosi and the chairman of the national committee now urge weiner to resign in a statement, pelosi says peopler acknowledged he needs help, and he should get that help without the pressure of being in congress. the calls for weeper -- weiner came after he told the media he planned to return to work on monday. >> i made mistakes, as i said on monday, and now i'm just going to try to get back to work. >> reporter: the tipping point for the democratic leaders may have been news of weiner's contact with a 17-year-old delware girl on twitter.

the police say the communications with the high schooler were not inappropriate. >> nothing explicit, nothing indecent, absolutely nothing inappropriate. >> reporter: there's no evidence that weiner sent lewd photos to underage girls but he did send photos to a number of women. sources tell abc news when weiner learned democratic leaders wanted him gone, he was very emotional but not ready to resign congressman weiner is seeking professional hope. his constituents want him to stay in office but the sentiment is not shared by senior democrats. >> alan: back home, graduation ceremonies are being held at colleges around the bay area, including some at cal state east bay today. we're there live where more grads are entering a rescission-plagued job market. not much to celebrate after the graduation parties tonight. >> reporter: still going on right now, the celebration and ceremony here at the school of

business administration, just ended. people milling with their fall lid. one of four graduation ceremonies this weekend that will unleash more than 5,000 grad walts into -- graduates into rough water. >> you want to make some money. >> for now, she's making money as a receptionist, but eager to put her speech pathology degree to use. >> have you got a job yet? >> not yet. >> how has the search been? >> it's tough. >> she has company among physicalow graduates who are matching into one of the worst job markets in years. nationwide, 90% of students who graduated in 2006 and 2007 had found a job by this spring, according to a rutgers rutgers university survey.

day, and in my case, i am always looking for smart people. >> reporter: also depends on the major. students studying things like public relations, computer technology, seem to be having better luck landing their first job. >> alan: thank you very much. the family of b.a.r.t. shooting victim oscar grant is in los angeles tonight, attending a town hall meeting against violence and abuse by police. tomorrow, a rally is planned in oakland to protest monday's release of johannes mehserle, the bart police officer convicted of killing grant in 2009. mehserle will be released after serving one 'er of his two year sentence. he received credit for time served and time off for good behavior. tomorrow's protest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. in front of the fruit vail station. the oakland tribune is reporting there will be at least 100 extra police officers on the streets beginning sunday.

>> we're not expecting the kinds of crowd we had in the past, but should there be -- in the past it was people from out of town who used this as a case for vandalism. we're not expecting that, but we are prepared. we have police oncall and overnight. >> alan: looting and vandalism eruptes during a rally in downtown oakland following the verdict in the trial last july. hayward police are searching for the driver who ran done a teenager and then drove off. the victim was crossing the road at 9:15 last night when she was hit by a white car. the girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. today she is in stable condition. the car is possibly a toyota crow la or -- corolla or a volkswagen jetta. some shocked cable car passengers say they watched a woman dart in front of the moving car before it could stop. it struck the woman around 10:30

this morning on broadway and mason in san francisco. muni is now investigating, but at this point it does not believe driver error or equipment problems were involved. witnesses say they tried to warn the woman. >> saw the brakeman hit the brake and everybody yelled out, look out! and that was it. >> alan: the extent of the woman's injuries is unknown. the gripman was put on nondriving status and is being tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure. those peg peg -- pg&e pipeline tests continue tomorrow. what residents can expect. >> leigh: i'm leigh glaser, a sea breeze kept temperatures cooler today. also we saw the low clouds and fogs. things start to heat up in the next couple of

>> alan: people in newark may smell natural gas because pg&e will be testing a pipeline. the company has to bleed out natural gas from a section of pipeline. pg&e says the natural gas will quickly dissipate and will not be harmful. customers with concerns can contact pg&e at 1-800-743-5000. and service to customers well not be interrupted during the work tomorrow. in northern california, firefighters are bracing for the start of wildfire season. starting monday, cal fire will be opening up many of its seasonal fire stations, and is

asking homeowners to take extra precautions in preparation for the season. cal fire recommends homeowners maintain a defensible space of 100 feet around your homes. trim your tree branches six feet from the ground. clear needles from gutters and roofs, and landscape with fire resistant plants. our above-average rainfall has led to a lower fire risk, but fire officials warn it also led to an abundance of grass and brush. a little boy with big amibitions. >> somebody came up and gave me a $50 donation. >> alan: his personal fight has led to a crusade to cure the world of cancer. how he hopes to achieve his goal one cup of lemonade as a time. >> a mix of clouds and sun today. leigh glaser coming up with your forecast. x

>> alan: it's national lemonade stand day today. and a nine-year-old boy from mountain view marked the day by trying to find a cure for cancer. jacob has acute leukemia and is in treatment to fight it. today he set up on alex's lemonade stand at the stanford shopping center. every penny me he makes goes to childhood cancer research. >> i have leukemia. that's why i have a lemonade

westerly gusts up to 25-miles-an-hour so it's going to take time for the winds to die down. overnight, temperatures tonight will be in the 50s across much of the bay area, and then sunday, another beautiful shot there over the bay from our high definition east bay cam. tomorrow, wake up to the morning low clouds and fog, afternoon sunshine and sea breeze will die down, and warmer temperatures in the east bay, antioch, 77. look for 62 for san francisco tomorrow. folks, as we trend into monday, tuesday, wednesday, temperatures start to warm up. by tuesday, we're looking at temperatures in the east bay in the upper 80s, close to 90 degrees. so, a real stretch of warm weather heeded our way. monday, tuesday, and wednesday, and then the fog moves back in. >> alan: roadwork will disrupt traffic for two weeks on san francisco's west portal avenue. the westbound lanes of west

portal well be closed from 8:00 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon starting on monday as crews improve drainage in the area. drivers will follow a detour in order to reach the boulevard. they will not effect muni's line. several local companies are showing off products that are here in the bay area, and elsewhere in the united states. this year's -- the products here in the bay area -- this year's san mateo county fair features an exhibit called -- let's go to the sound. >> if we just spent 64 tuesday -- $64 a year purchasing something that is made in america verse somewhere else, we would employ 200,000 people.
