possible jumper on the bridge. that caused a massive tieup on the bridge that lasted more than two hours. a chp says they now have that 40-year-old hispanic male in custody. this was the scene earlier today from the tower cam. chp, sans francisco police and am ambulances can be seen. they tried to talk man down from the bridge railing. this caused a backup to richmond. and cars to the 80-880 split were at a complete stop. the chp told us that they received a call at 2:40 this afternoon about a man on the bridge. we spoke to officer tony tam. >> i responded. the male spanish speaking only. we got a hispanic officer and

requested the san francisco police department interpreter and suicide prevention person come out as well. approximately 4:40 p.m., the suspect was talked back over the rail and taken in custody without incident. >> reporter: at 4:45. the chp opened up the two right westbound lanes leading into san francisco, and also the one lane they closed on the lower deck. also the left lane on the lower deck, which caused the traffic tieup going into the city. now, that's all been opened and traffic is now flowing freely. we still have residual backups up to richmond in one case and all the way back on 880. almost as far as broadway. so traffic will still be tied up for a little while longer. as far as the individual is concerned, the chp tells us it's a 40-year-old hispanic male and he is now at san francisco general hospital under

observation. reporting live at the toll plaza. abc-12 news. >> alan: the family of bart shooting victim oscar grant is in los angeles takenning a town hall meeting against violence and abuse by police tomorrow, rally is planned in oakland to protest the release of johannes mehserle, the bart police officer convicted of killing grant in 2009. mehserle served one 'er of his two year sentence. he received credit for time served and time off for about behavior. the oakland tribune there is will be 100 police officers on the street. >> we're not expecting the crowds in the past. in the past there were people from out of town who used the occasion for vandalism. we are not expecting that again should there we, we are prepared. we have police on call.

>> alan: looting and vandalism eripped during a rally in downtown oakland following the verdict in mehserle's trial. hayward place are searching for the driver who ran down a teenager then drove awesome the 17-year-old girl was crossing soto road last night when she was hit by a white car. the girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. the car is described as a possible toyota corrolla or a volkswagen jetta. passengers on a cable car today were shocked to see a woman dart in front of the moving car which was unable to stop in time. the woman was hit around 10:30 this morning on broadway and mason in san francisco. muni is investigating, and at this point says it does not believe driver error or equipment problems were involved. witnesses say they tried warn the woman. >> saw the brakeman hit the

brake, and everybody yelled look out. and hit he brake again. and that was it. >> alan: the extent of the woman's injuries is unknown today at this time. the driver was put on nondriving status, and is being tested for drugs and alcohol which is standard procedure. in san jose, police are investigating what led to a deadly shooting early this morning. it happened in the -- in south san jose. the shooting victim actually call the police, when when they arrived he was found- -- when they arrived he was found dead. this mark's san jose's 24th 24th homicide of the year. los angeles police have a blood-stained dodgers jersey that report lid contains the dna of beaten giants fan bryan stow, but an l.a. area teach station reports that jersey does not
