oakland. >> reporter: tonight, an extra 100 oakland police officers will be on the job. the mayor's office says jean quan is keeping an eye on the situation, monitoring it, but keeping a low profile and the city and police have not gotten an indication that outciders are planning any trouble. >> alan: took nearly two yours for johannes mehserle to be charged, tried and convicted in the shooting death of oscar grant. it happened in 2009 after a scuffle on the platform of the fruitvale bart station. a jury found milesly guilty of involuntary manslaughter on july 8 twowsmght. the judge said there was no evidence that mehserle intended to shoot grant. he was sentenced to main jail sentence, two years minus time

disclose his long term gay relationship could be an issue. the supporter0s same-sex marriage plan to demonstrate outside the federal courthouse before tomorrow's hearing. family and friends of missing nursing student michelle li are not giving up hope of finding her alive. they're hoping someone will come forward. >> reporter: you know, it's been almost a week since police classified the search for michelle li as a homicide investigation, but today her friends and family have never been more determined to fine her alive. this is the street where her car was found, and this afternoon her friends and family came to this neighborhood to blanket it with displiers beg neighbors -- with fliers and beg neighbors for help. the neighbors were talking -- the friend were stopping people on the streets asking them for

help to bring the nursing student home alive. the reward has ground to $65,000. there are t-shirts and fliers list her as a missing person although police say they believe she has been murdered and on friday conducted a search, the police did, for ten hours in a remote area of the east bay with search dogs but came up empty handed. one more reason why the friends and family are not giving up hope. >> we're frustrated we don't have any evidence where the case is going or whether or not she -- that -- whether or not we should stop our efforts. so until we get the evidence, we're going to fight for her. >> michelle reside friends and family say they recognize that hayward police have limited resources. the just wish police with share more information with them. the police have inleed the -- enlisted the fbi's help in what they call a search for a putt. but they don't say what leads them to this conclusion. friends and family say that
