>> alan: the long wait continues for united airline passengers of a system-wide commuter meltdown. thousands of passengers are still stranded across the done there and at san francisco international where we're live with the latest. >> lisa: i was here last night and there were thousands of people wreamplet people everywhere. but today people are flying again. last -- there's not a sense of normalcy and things are not running smoothly. >> all day, all night.

>> a renewed sense of urgency at unite airlines today. the goal is to get as many passengers out and in the air as quickly as possible. computers at both united and continental, which recently merged, went down at 5:15 friday afternoon, leaving thousands of travelers stranded. but the computers came back on five hours later so passengers say today isn't much better. >> i'm really mad. i have 36 or mother hour -- more hour delay. >> the outage interrupt flight departures, processing, and reservations, a total of 31 flights were cancelled. that doesn't take into account all the dough lays. passengers are fining rebooking isn't easy. >> we should be booked first, and they say everything is jam-packed. >> to many lines, not very

organized. >> reporter: according to travel industry analyst, how united recovered will be as important, and they must come up with a better backup plan. >> the airlines have to figure out if this happened outside their control, what can they do to reduce that. a vendor problem, a pour -- power outage. if it was in their control do they need to have more redundant systems. >> region airways had system failures, both blamed on forces outside of the airline's control. at it not clear what caused united's computer failure but the company is offering a one-time date or time change for free or a refund if you cab -- cancel your trip. san jose and oakland had fewer problems because united is not major carrier. our nighted hopes to have flights back on schedule here

and the nation's airports by the end of the weekend. lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> alan: san francisco police are searching for the driver who left the scene of a deadly hit and run accident. a man believed to be in his 40s was hit this morning at 18th and mission street. witnesses describe the vehicle as a white minivan, possibly a chevy. anyone with information is asked to call the police. in east palo alto, police say say will arrest he drive of an suv who let officers on a short pursuit before crashing and killing her passenger. officers say she sped away after they tried to pull her over for reckless driving. a short chase ended when the car flipped. the 25-year-old driver now faces charges, including homicide and dui. the passenger died at the scene.

another pursuit ended with the driver dying after crashing his truck. it happened this morning at east san jose. the sheriff's deputies responded after calls from neighbors reporting reckless driving. the driver of the truck gave chase and crashed into a tanker. the 21-year-old driver died in the crash. his passenger were hurt. volunteers hit the streets of oakland today to make a statement against violence and help track down a killer. they handed out fliers and t-shirts to help gather information about the shooting on may 29th. 28-year-old la toya kenney and another victim died. a third person was critically injured. it happened across the street from a block party. >> we're out here trying to get the message out and let people know that her family wants

justice. she has two little girls at home. they need justice for their mother. >> alan: investigators have not made any arrests in the case. police and crime taupers -- crimestoppers are offering up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest. >> the family of a missing nursing student, michelle li, has plans of searching all weekend. >> we're searching the areas for any evidence as to where she could be or to eliminate any areas that the pd have to look. we're in collaboration and -- the pd and the lost children's organization. >> li's family and volunteers have conducted at least 128 searches for her. investigators have classified her disappears as a homicide and say they have identified dotses of persons of interest since she

disappeared on may 27th but no one has been arrest. the search resumes tomorrow. investigators believe a pipe bomb explosion at fairfield may be connected to the unsolved newspaper bomb case in vacaville. police are now looking for 29-year-old daniel garcia in connection with a pipe bomb that detonated under a car in fairfield last month. vacaville police were searching garcia's home on this when they found a pipe bomb and detonated it. garcia is 5'8", lives in fairfield bulls it known to frequent vacaville. in marsh, vacaville man was killed when an explosive device hidden in his newspaper blew up. a billboard campaign combining race abortion is raising eyebrows, the radiant organization put up billboards saying black and beautiful, showing a baby, and directing

people to their anti-abortion web site. they are targeting the african-american community because they have the highest abortion rate. organizers say they're trying to make the issue personal. >> we have to declear these children are beautiful and deserve to live, they have potential and value. >> alan: congresswoman barbaraley issued a statement saying the billboards are offensive, stigmatize people of color and perpetrate myths about parenting skill and the type of women who seek and use abortion services. we'll have more on this story, including a response from planned parenthood, at 6:00. >> peace talks with the taliban. ahead what afghanistan is saying about negotiations reportedly involving the u.s. an injured giants fan brian stow's children talk about their dad and how they will spend this father day. >> and president obama and john becamer came out swinging today,

>> alan: afghan president karzai says the u.s. is involved in peace talks with the taliban. he says his country is taking part and the talks are going well. the white house will not confirm or deny the meetings are taking place. the only response from the state department spokesman who says the u.s. supports an afghan-led process and the taliban must

renounce violence. the taliban has publicly stating that foreign troops must leave the country before negotiations begin. police are looking for a man who used a box cutter to attack a jogger. it happened yesterday afternoon on the path near the americana apartment complex. the suspect is 6'2", a lean build, white man, and a two-inch round tattoo on his forearm. he slashed her face and forearm while trying to cut her. as father's day approaches the children of brian stow, the giants fan attacked outside dodger stadium, are talking publicly about their power. stow remains in a coma at san francisco general hospital three months after the boating. police have related a suspect on

you could start seeing more chairs at your favorite stores, but they won't be for shoppers, retailers like wal-mart and home depot and target are facing lawsuits alleging they don't provide their employees enough on the job seating. more than 100 lawsuits have been filed, taking advantage of 2009 provision which mandates all employees should have randal access to seats. attorneys are now advising california retailers to put a chair near each cash register. >> president barack obama and john boehner put partisan aside today, at least on the golf

a few high clouds overnight tonight. keep a little patchy coastal fog there. the warming is going to bin tomorrow, father's day, and warm and hot conditions tuesday and wednesday. here's a look at -- you can see for yourself we're definitely seeing a little low cloudiness and fog. this is how we started the morning, and then throughout the day it wants to pull off the coast, but it is pretty much just stuck there. those high clouds will be with us tonight as well. and you can see here that the low cloudiness, patchy at best, will remain near the coast. half moon bay, 51. interior east bay, antioch, you're in the 80s ago now. so dip down into the upper 50s overnight testimony 56 -- overnight tonight. 56 in concord, today we have a trough of low pressure right here, and that generated the high clouds on the coast. you may have noticed the sea

breeze calming down, and as we head into tomorrow, high pressure is really going to start to build in, the trough will be pushed off towards the east, and, folks, this is when the warming will begin tomorrow, and as we head into monday night and tuesday night, the high gets closer, we're going to start to get those warm offshore winds and we'll all heed up by tuesday. start father's day off tomorrow, clear skies in the north bay, and then as those winds start to decrease a little bit onshore, start to filter out, that's when temperatures will come up. 60s near the coast and starting to ease in some of the 90s from the east bay out towards the delta and east bay locations. highs for sunday, 80s. at the coast, sea breeze not as strong, although we'll have a little patchy coastal clouds. half moon bay, 66.
