making news in america this morning. >> shocking verdict. after only 11 hours of deliberations, jurors in the casey anthony trial find her not guilty of murder. where the case goes from here in a moment. then dead debate. with congress back to work on the nation's deficit, president obama is calling for top congressional leaders to a meeting at the white house later. and little hero. the 3-year-old boy who used some quick thinking to save his mom's life. good morning. freedom is in casey anthony's future. a jury has acquitted her of the three serious charges she faced. not guilty of murder, not guilty of aggravated child abuse and also not guilty of aggravated manslaughter.

>> so now thanksgiving could be released froroprison as soon as tomorrow, and john hendren is joining us live this morning with more details on this closely watched case. john. >> reporter: good morning, daniel and peggy. casey anthony could still do time for lying to police, but on all the major charges she was completely vindicated. a nation transfixed by the trial was left stunned by the verdict. >> as to the charge of first degree murder, we, the jury, find the defendant not guilty. >> reporter: not guilty of murder, manslaughter or child abuse. for the defense there was relief. >> casey did not murder caylee. it's that simple, and today our system of justice has not dishonored her memory by a false conviction. >> reporter: there was also champagne for casey facing just four convictions for lying to police and a sentence of up to a year in prison, nearly h hysterical joy that it's over. >> she could confess in the

future. she could say i did it in a year from now and it would still be over. >> reporter: for her family her father and brother accused of sexually molesting and her mother leaving accused of leavi ladder to the backyard pool down and the father accused of disposing of the body, silence. >> i don't know how the anthony family will ever recover from that. >> reporter: outside the courtroom the crowd that followed the nearly three-year-long case was stunned and angry. >> oh, my god. >> guilty. >eporter: for some a sense of justice denied. >> this is crazy. justice, we wanted justice for caylee, and we're not getting justice for caylee. >> reporter: why the jury chose to acquit on all major counts, none of them would say. >> my guess is that these jurors felt that there was reasonable doubt. >> reporter: in the end it may have been the physical evidence that undid the prosecution. caylee was missing so long, six months before her body was found, it was simply too decomposed to help their case. daniel and peggy? >> john, she was guilty of some

charges. what was the lies she was convicted of telling? >> reporter: well, she had to explain to police why caylee had been missing for 31 days before she reported it, and she wrote this sort of web of lies that she told them. mainly that the baby-sitter had kidnapped caylee. she said in the end that the reason that she had lied to police was that she had been sexually abused by her brother and her father, charges they deny, and that she had been taught to lie all of her life. and that's pretty much what it came down to. in the end the jury apparently wasn't sure. >> yeah, a web of tales ther all right, well, john hendren with the very latest, thank you so much from washington this morning. and we will have more reaction from outside the courtroom later in this half hour. we'll also hear from one of the alternate jurors coming up on "good morning america." moving on now to the frantic search-and-rescue operation off the coast of mexico entering its fourth day. >> coast guard and mexican navy officials say it is possible that seven u.s. tourists missing since their fishing boat capsized on sunday could survive

up to 96 hours. the search area is expanding because other shipwreck survivors in the region have been swept far away by fast tides. and in washington, congressional lawmakers will be back at it today trying to hammer out a compromise on raising the debt limit. >> president obama is pushing hard to get a deal done by july 22nd, well before the august 2nd deadline. karen travers has the latest on those negotiations. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, peggy. good morning, da that over president obama said that over the weekend there was some progress made on these contentious debt negotiations, but he said in order to reach a final deal, both sides are going to have to make some painful concessions. president obama said it's time to get down to business on the deficit. he invited house and senate leaders from both parties to the white house on thursday to work toward a final agreement. >> it's my hope that everybody is going to leave their ultimatums at the door, that we'll all leave our political rhetoric at the door and that we're going to do what's best for our economy and do what's best for our people. >> reporter: this was supposed

to be a vacation week for the senate. instead, lawmakers are back in washington trying to hammer out a deal to raise the nation's credit limit. >> the time is here for my republican colleagues to put politics aside. simply put, we're out of time. >> reporter: congressional republicans have refused to budge on raising taxes as a way to reduce the deficit. >> washington needs to find a way to spend less. taxing more is their easy way out. >> reporter: the white house has zeroed in on about $2 trillion in total reductions. they would come from budget cuts including tens of billions to medicare and medicaid and more than $400 billion in tax increases over the next decade. >> this will require both parties to get out of our comfort zones and both parties to agree on real compromise. >> reporter: democratic officials said the $2 trillion would show credit rating agencies there is political will in washington to get a handle on the deficit. president obama said he opposes the short-term deal that just

raises the debt ceiling. he said this is a unique opportunity to do something about the deficit and force the government to live within its means. peggy and daniel? and crews are facing major challenges in trying to clean up an oil spill in the yellowstone river in montana. >> the river has been flowing too fast and snow melt has pushed it above flood stage adding to fears the spill will be carried into areas that haven't yet been damage. >> boy. also the southwest monsoon season is in full swing. you can tell this by a blinding dust storm. take a look at this. this one descended on the phoenix area. >> looked like something out of a hollywood movie. >> armageddon. >> the cloud was 50 miles wide and 1,000 feet high as it moved in last night reducing visibility to zero as you might imagine. a lot of people lost power and flights were temporarily grounded. hopefully where you are it's not that extreme. as we look at the nation's weather, the four corners region could see more dust storms and flash flooding. those thunderstorms stretch into california and nevada.

overseas markets are unsettled after portugal's debt rating was downgraded. tokyo's nikkei average topped 10,000 with 110 points. hong kong's hang seng is nearly as much. in london the ftse opened slightly higher. on wall street the dow lost 13 and the nasdaq index gained 10. >> gas prices, have they hit rock bottom? for this summer, yes, they have. gas is sitting down about 21 cents in the past month but just a penny in the past week because there are still problems with refineries in the midwest. not everyone is happy with the settlement over b bk of america's bad mortgage-backed securities. a group of investors is challenging in court the 8.5 billion deal. they say they were left out of
