>> good evening, everyone. i'm alan wang. police believe they arrested two men responsible for shooting an 11-year-old last night in the western addition. we spoke to the girl's uncle this afternoon. lisa? >> alan, this whole thing is devastating. the young girl was staying in an apartment complex just across the street from here, and she was visiting her family. the whole house was quiet when the shooting started. we have decided not to identify the victim for her own protection. >> window here, and the window,

and then it hit her. >> eric holtz's 11-year-old neils is in critical but stable condition at san francisco general hospital after gunfire erupted. just after midnight, two bullets were fired into the apartment on laguna street. >> one shot entered the bedroom window, and one shot her through -- near the lung and exited the back. she ran out, said, i'm shot. >> she was getting ready for bed when the shooting started. >> it's a tragedy, a complete tragedy. >> even san francisco police are outraged by this crime. investigators did arrests two men today, and the city's gang unit is now in charge of this case. the thought is that stray bullets from a gunfight on the street shot into the home. >> we've been seeing an increase in some random shootings, so the officers have been -- shares been more foot patrol.

officers have been -- the housing officers have been in and out the developments more. >> the uptick in crime in the western addition started a few weeks ago. the district supervisor says the focus needs to be specifically on young people, ages 17 to 26. >> it has to be both ends. both ends it's smart on crime law enforcement and the other end is an accountability social service strategy that's able to reach out to these people. >> the men in custody are in his targeted age group. witnesses say they were with a larger group of african american men at the corner of eddie and laguna last night, when suddenly an argument started and one suspect pulled out a gun and fired. police are still releasing very few details about what the suspects were arguing about, and what the charges are they're facing. live in san francisco, leigh >> the death toll stands at 92 in the terror attacks in norway,

and expected to grow. police charged 32-year-old norwegian anders behring breivik with setting off a bomb in oslo killing seven. he's also accused of opening fire on a labor party camp for young people. at least 85 people died there. police boats are still searching for more victims. police admit it took officers an hour and a half to arrive when the shooting began. they did not have quick access to a helicopter and they couldn't find a boat. the shooter surrounded once they arrived. >> i saw the people coming up the hill, and he shot them at the top, and they were falling. >> i saw a bunch of people getting killed. he was closing up, and i jumped into the water with someone else. and then i swimmed into the fjord, and i was a cramp and i

was nearly drowning. i got saved by a local. >> police say behring breivik had right wing and anti-muslim views. police searched his os slow apartment and farm and discovered 6 tons of fertilizer. abc news is learning more about the case against two men who were expected to be arraigned on money for the beating of giants fan brian stow. charges were filed against them for the march 31st attack at dodger stadium. each faces three felonies. both are being held on a half million dollars bond. police say the two have extensive criminal pasts, which include prior arrests for violence. meanwhile the victim continues to recover at san francisco general hospital, and is showing some signs of progress. a different kind of community meeting was held in richmond today where residents met with former criminals to come up with ways to help them reenter society.

city leaders also attended the forum that focused on a new survey of richmond residents who had served jail time. it determined the best ways to help them reenter society. >> want everybody to be successful in richmond, wherever you start. some people will be successful by themselves. don't need any help. some people are going to need a lot of help. people coming out of prison need a lot of help. let's get them to be successful too. that's the only way to move the city forward. >> now, one main issue is providing jobs and pushing for a movement called ban the box, which supports removing the question about applicant's criminal history from job applications. the city of richmond has banned the box from its job applications and wantsn8]ç to gt other employers in the city to do the same. well, firefighters worked through the night, extinguishing hotspots after a senior home caught fire leaving 13 residents looking for a new place to live. it happened at the rossmoor retirement community on running springs drive around 6:30 last night. investigators say the fire was

accidental and it began in the kitchen of one of the apartments. two men who happened to be in the area are credited with evacuating all the residents safely. the american red cross is now helping those displaced people. nurses from throughout the kaiser permanente hospital chain are expressing their concern about a plan to eliminate the hospital's pediatric unit when it moves to san leandro. dozens of nurses attended congressman pete stark's town hall meeting today in hayward to ask for his support. they say if the pediatric unit is closed, many families will have to drive to santa clara or oakland for treatment. kaiser plans to relocate by 2014. >> right now we take the admissions from the fremont emergency room, because they don't have a pediatric unit, and if san leandro doesn't have a pediatric unit, no matter when your child goes to the emergency room, if they have to be admitted, it will require transferring them to another place. >> kaiser released a statement

today, reading in part, "kaiser permanente is not closing speed 46 in san leandro. our primary care pediatricians and pediatric offices will be available in san leandro,çó hayward andi] fremont." laid-off teachers who worked for the new haven school district are getting their jobs back. it's reported this week that 24 teachers will be rehired, in addition to the 29 teachers who have already been called back. most will fill positions that opened up through retirement and resignations due to cuts in state funding the district has also increased class size, reduced the instructional year, and added furlough days for all of its employees. republicans say they can come up with a plan to resolve the nation's looming debt crisis. ahead why gop leaders set tomorrow afternoon as their deadline. and airlines are getting a temporary break from paying certain federal taxes, but some

>> a solemn ceremony in lower manhattan today. a relic of the september 11th attacks was moved to its permanent home. crews loaded an intersectioning steel beam known as the world trade center cross on to a truck so it can be driven a short distance to the national 9/11 memorial. the 17-foot, 10-ton piece of metal was recovered near the towers following the attacks. well, progress in the

negotiations to raise the debt ceiling appear deadlocked. president obama and top lawmakers met for less than an hour this morning at the white house. the meeting was called after house speaker john boehner abruptly broke off negotiations late last night. president obama wants the debt ceiling raised by $2 trillion to avoid another crisis for at least two more years while boehner wants spending cuts that exceed the size of any increase in borrowing without raising taxes. in a conference call, speaker boehner told republicans he hopes to be able to announce a viable framework by tomorrow afternoon before the stock markets open in agency. >> it's time to get serious. i'm confident that the bipartisan leaders in the congress can act. >> speaker boehner, democratic leader nancy pelosi, senate majority leader harry reid, and senate republican leader mitch mcconnell also met tonight at the capitol. some airline customers will

not see savings this weekend, even though several federal taxes on air fairs have expired. u.s. airways and american airlines admit they raised fares to offset tax savings. the expired taxes amount to about $30 on a typical $300 roundtrip ticket. the taxes expired on friday when congress failed to pass legislation to keep the faa running. while thousands of faa employees have been furloughed, air traffic controllers remain on the job and the obama administration says the shutdown will not affect air safety. a musical legacy cut short. remembering amy winehouse ahead. also, a loyal friend goes to extremes. why he held on for dear life. and if you think today was nice, meteorologist leigh glaser says wait until tomorrow.

>> police say singer amy winehouse was found dead today at her home in london. she struggled with drug and alcohol abuse throughout her career, but police say the cause of her death is still not immediately clear. winehouse shot to fame in 2006

with the album "back to black." her blend of jazz, soul, rock, and classic pop was a global hit. amy winehouse was 27 years old. a man who thought someone stole his friend's purse went on the ride of his life. it happened friday in stockton, and you can see that man clinging to the open window of a car that drives away at about 35 miles per hour. officers say the man thought the driver had taken his friend's purse. ends up no crime was committed and no one was arrested. the guy with the good grip and fast seat was fortunately not injured there. well, a man who got trapped head first in a storm drain says he was attacked and robbed in stanislau county, and now he's accusing police of putting his life at risk. police released this photo of jared maderos. they claim he was drunk, but maderos claim he was attacked by

gang members who threw his cellphone down the storm drain. he says the attack impaired him from explaining his story to the officers. >> my head was bleeding, and i started shaking once i realized my head was bleeding. i don't know why, but my head was shaking. i was trying to get help, and my phone was from. >> maderos said he's afraid of gang retaliation because police released his name and information. police say their report was based on information when they arrested maderos. all right, leigh glaser is back. we're experiencing wonderful weather. >> nice day today. still low clouds and fog near the coast. you can see that it looks almost like dream whip or cool whip. there's already low clouds and fog starting to venture back inland. as we showed you in san jose, they have plenty of sunshine

there. inland locations seeing the sun as well. all of the low clouds and fog strictly near the coast. antioch, you're seeing sunshine, 83 degrees. 80 in livermore. fairfield 80 degrees. in napa, 71 with sunshine. we have sunny skies in san rafael, 72. 64 in san francisco. mountain view, you're at 74 degrees. san jose, plenty of sun there, 76 degrees. so here's a look at some of our highlights, if you're trying to plan the next few days. we'll continue to see the low clouds and fog venture back inland overnight tonight. get ready for slightly warmer conditions by sunday afternoon as the low clouds and fog will thin a bit. we'll see more sunshine. then beyond that, monday, tuesday, wednesday, through midweek we'll look for a cooling trend to take over the bay area. we started off this morning with the fog and the clouds well inland, and then it just burned to just near the coast. and all of this as we've already seen on our high-definition camera, already starting to venture back in through the

gate, toward the bay. so we will definitely see that again this evening. overnight temperatures will go 57 in antioch, 51 for vallejo. oakland overnight, as well as san francisco, hovering at 50 degrees. 47 half moon bay. and morgan hill overnight tonight 52 degrees. all righty, here's the setup for the next couple of days. we had a little bit of low cloudiness there today, but tomorrow night in through monday, tuesday and wednesday, we have another upper-level low, and it is slowly going to push in our direction. as it does so, we will bring in cooler air mass. so we'll look for temperatures to drop as we head into monday, tuesday and wednesday. in fact, temperatures inland well below where we should be for this time of year. as we head into the latter part of next week, that's when temperatures start to warm back up. out the door tomorrow morning, 5:00 a.m., you can see the low clouds and fog extending well out toward the east bay. then it's going to burn back a little sooner. that's why temperatures tomorrow will come up a few degrees. we'll look for mid to upper

80s. extreme east bay locations will even see some mid-60s at our beaches. less fog there. highs for sunday, 83 for san jose. 82 for cupertino. look for hit-and-miss patches of fog at the coast. half moon bay, 64. 70s for redwood city as well as palo alto. 66 for downtown san francisco. in the north bay, 83. east bay locations, oakland 74. 76 for hercules. interior east bay will be warmer. 85 for concord. we'll look for 72 degrees with sunshine for watsonville. my accuview seven-day forecast, we cool everything down, much cooler for where we should be for this month of july. mid 80s inland. the firs< 70s around the bay. 50s at the coast. then we warm back up into the 90s next weekend. >> beautiful. thank you, leigh. i don't know if you recognize this guy, but he's back from his warnings. welcome back.
