$2 trillion in longs term spending cuts. last we heard it doesn't include tax increases and could be cuts to medicare. it's unclear how the rank and file will vote on the deal. >> now this suppose has been messy, it's taken far too long. i've been concerned about the impact it has had on business confidence and consumer confidence and the economy as a whole over the last month nevertheless ultimately the leaders of both parties have found their way toward compromise. i want to thank them for that. most of all i want to thank the american people. it's been your voices, your letters, your e-mails, your tweets, your phone calls that have compelled washington to act in the final days. >> reporter: even before the president spoke there was already some evidence that investors believed the deal would be made and that the u.s. will avoid an unprecedented default. early indications from the asian

markets showed dow futures were up. lilian kim, "abc 7 news." if a debt deal is approved before the deadline, the crisis could still negatively impact the nation's housing market. mortgage rates may rise because it could devalue the dollar. it would rise from half to 3% on mortgages rates. sunday is traditionally open house day and for sale signs were spotted all over the bay area. it will still be more than several more days before a decision on whether the u.c. berkeley hikers jailed in iran will go free. earlier today they had a final hearing on two-year anniversary of their capture. tomas ramon is here with a look down. >> reporter: today's hearing lasted four hours. it was hoped they would be released today but the judge

held off until next week. when ramadan starts. some observers think it's a good sign. >> today an iranian court decided on the sentence will be revealed next week. a professor at stanford university believes after two years, the remaining hikers will be freed soon. >> my sense is i'm cautiously optimistic they have decided to let the people go. it is tying to find a face saving mechanism. >> reporter: he is director of iranian studies. he thinks the iranian government will release them during ramadan. >> it's a month of fasting, usually a month of peace and forgiveness. >> we have had ramadan over the past years and they have not been released. >> an iranian journalist who followed the hikers referring the families to an iranian

attorney. exactly two years ago, three were arrested while on the iranian border with iraq. they were accused of spying. the trio's families were allowed to visit them last year. shouvd was released for humanitarian reasons and refused to go back to iran for the sentencing. last week she said she is being reunited with her fiance and her friend will we have high hopes the trial will be the end of this nightmare. >> over the past few years, the iranian government was hoping to get something out of this politically from the u.s. government, but they didn't see any positive sign from the u.s. >> they both say the government is bending to public opinion while trying to save face. the recent discussion by the government has been so low key. >> reporter: attorneys for the families say this last week of waiting will be very difficult for them. they say they will not make any comments until they hear the

judge's final opinion next week. the families of seven northern california men after their boat sank off of baja are making a plea for help. today the families gathered at a restaurant in vallejo to come up with ways to raise money to hire a private dive team to look at ship's wreckage and determine if any of the fishermen went down witness. they have been missing since july 3rd when their fishing boat sank in stormy seas. >> nobody has been abe to say yes, it's in hundred feet of water or thousand feet of water. we need to find where boat is so we can determine how deep it is and that will eventually reveal how much it will cost to do the dive. >> barrier businesses are helping the families to find our fathers fund-raising events. we have a list of upcoming events on our website. you can go to abc7news.com and

click on the see it on tv section. three people died in speculate shooting,000 weekend in oakland. the latest killing happened just before midnight last night. a 16-year-old boy was shot several times as he stood outside a house on the 9300 block of sunnyside street. it brings the homicide total to 70 so far this year. oakland reported a total of just 52 homicides in all of last year. fremont police are investigating that city's second homicide of the year after a man was shot to death in centreville district. his body was found last night. investigators are checking with nearby businesses to see if any surveillance video shows what happened. for now, they are describing this as a drive-by shooting with no known suspects or motive. >> golfers are used to dealing with hazards but not hazards like this one. it's a mountain lion that was seeing walking on the links of

san mateo county. the animal was spotted this morning near crystal springs golf course in burlingame. golfers were being told not to go in the rough at the sixth hole. after more than three months of occupation, two native american tribes left glen cove park in vallejo today. they held closing ceremonies and will move tents and other items. they isn't up camp to prevent the city from bulldozing the sacred burial site and building a park. last week an agreement was reached with the city of vallejo to scale back its plans. >> it's first time that the tribes have had that opportunity to come to the table with dvrd and the city and land is under protection. >> the agreement between vallejo and tribes will eliminate the restrooms and relocate the

killings in juarez across the border from texas. police only confirmed the arrest today. investigators also believe he was the mastermind of an attack last year that killed a u.s. consulate employee and her husband and another worker in juarez. they are expected to issue an extradition request. >> divers are looking for a missing new hampshire girl. she has been missing since monday. they are searching a pond near her home near the canadian border. a memorial at the flight 93 national monument, 40 sweet gum trees donated to the museum will be planted. three went at the site. first phase of the memorial is

under construction and will be dedicated on september 10th. new york city's central park, a legendary spot, now even more so. archaeologists have found remnants of a 19th century village located right under the park. they are excavating what was an african-american village called seneca park, people lived there between 1827 to 1857. they hope to eventually put the hundreds of artifacts they have found on display. more and more wine drinkers are turning to twist tops instead of korks. now adverse effects in a town in portugal. >> its cool weekend, but how long will the temperatures stick around. we'll have the full forecast coming up. >> giants offense is non-existent. are you ready for some football? we'll hear fromomomomomomomomomm

25,000 people hit the streets of san francisco to run in the m9dz annual san francisco marathon. the race started on the embarcadero and led runners along the waterfront, over the

golden gate bridge and back to the city at ferry building. michael wardian overcame stomach flu with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 6 seconds. first win in san francisco. the past two years he placed second. 100,000 spectators cleared on the runners. a.c. transit fares are going up tomorrow. basic fare will increase by ten cents, youth and disabled fares will increase to 5 cents and trips from the east bay to san francisco and the peninsula will now cost 4.20 for adults. fare increase was approved on may 11th by the a.c. transit board of directors. some changes to transit in vallejo, as well. in an effort to save money, the bay link ferry schedule will shrink from ten runs to from 12.

bus runs will be reduced from 14 to five. >> road closures tomorrow in the east bay, as well. construction crews will be closing all westbound lanes of state highway 4 in pittsburg and antioch on monday night. it's part of caltrans and contra costa transportation authority's project to widen the lanes. they will be closed 10:30 p.m. to 3:30. >> if you drink wine you notice that twist offs are a popular alternative. many major wine labels are switching to the alternative but it's causing a problem for the portugal. it's the world's largest producer of korks. corks. it has shifts on the struggling economy. portugal asked european partners for a $112 billion bailout for

concord is at 82 degrees. fairfield, 80 degrees. novato, 75. 78 for napa. 69 was the high in oakland, 64 in san francisco and 78 was the high today in san jose. currently temperatures obviously starting to come down a few degrees. 77 right now in antioch. we have 73 in concord. 60 for oakland as well as san francisco. 68 degrees right now with sunshine. here is a look at the highs. low clouds will continue to thicken up overnight. bring the coastal briz drizzle. tomorrow morning, low ceiling, could possibly delay some early morning flights. keep that in mind if you are going out of sfo tomorrow morning. look for inland clearing tomorrow and temperatures are going to remain a little below seasonal norms right through the workweek. remember yesterday we were taking a look at monsoonal

moisture. you can see much of it as quickly exited the location. live doppler 7-hd and heaviest rain, thunderstorms have pushed off to the east. a few showers that will be ending overnight tonight. for the bay area, it has been a persistent fog bank right near the coast moving inland overnight and slow to burn if at all back to the coast. you see the finger fog right here making its way through the golden gate bridge. all of this will advance inland. overnight temperatures with fog and drizzle near the coast. 59 for antioch, 55 richmond. san francisco will be down to 54 degrees and 58 for san jose. now, as we head through the rest of our workweek we do have another upper-level low sitting to the north of us. this will keep temperatures on the cool side for this time of year. we may have a little bit of fluctuation in our temperatures, cool for two days and then we'll

warm things up a few more days. but it looks like once this trough moves through, the trend as we hit thursday, friday and next weekend will be warmer seasonable temperatures. 76 for san jose. 80 for los gatos. at our beaches we will look for mist and drizzle, low overcast. half moon bay, 62 degrees. palo alto, warm to 75. san mateo, 70 degrees. downtown san francisco mist and drizzle tomorrow morning, some afternoon partial clearing, 64 degrees and north bay, petaluma 72. 79 for calistoga. oakland tomorrow, warm to 70 degrees. hercules, 73. interior east bay, should be in the 90s this time of the year but mid to low 80s. very comfortable and brentwood 84. walnut creek, 78 degrees. livermore, 82. 71 degrees for watsonville.
