breaking news in america this morning -- >> deal done. president obama and republican leaders finally reach an agreement, allowing the u.s. to keep paying its bills. how the markets are reacting now. also, a father's emotional message to his missing daughter. we hear from the family of celina cass for the first time. and waiting in iran. after two years in captivity, two americans could be just days away from being set free. good morning, everybody. i'm rob nelson. >> and i'm tanya rivero. president obama made the announcement last night. a deal to allow the government to continuing borrow in exchange for major spending cuts. >> now a vote in congress could come as early as tomorrow. top lawmakers have to twist a

few arms in all of this. we have the details from washington. good morning, scott. >> reporter: good morning. at least four people accepted this deal. president obama, speaker boehner and the leaders of both parties in the senate. the trick now is getting enough support in congress in getting the deal to the president's desk. the deal is done. now, president obama is trying to calm america's nerves and the world's financial markets, saying it's time to vote. >> it will allow us to avoid default. and end the crisis that washington imposeded on the rest of america. >> reporter: asian stock markets liked ththnews. but, with less than two days before the united states risks a default that so many say would catastrophic, it's not clear congress can pass the deal. >> pretty pleased with this, right? >> reporter: speaker boehner spent last night trying to reassure republicans won and they should vote yes. the deal includes no tax increases.

and raises the debt ceiling up to $2.4 trillion, enough to last beyond the 2012 presidential election. there will be $1.2 trillion spending cuts over ten years. and then a special congressional committee will come up with additional deficit reduction of $1.5 trillion. if they pass that committee's recommendations, automatic cuts kick in. >> both parties gave more ground than they wanted to. that's the essence of compromise. >> the united states of america will not for the first time in our history default. on its obligations. >> reporter: but some members of the tea party say that the deal doesn't go far enough. and one democrat in the house called the deal a satan sandwich. leaders of both parties are still counting the votes as the clock counts down. rob and tanya. >> scott goldberg reporting from washington. assuming the deal eventually signed into law, it could mean more fiscal pain for already

cash-strapped states. states are struggling with budget deficits. declining tax revenues. that's not going to get any easier as the president obama said that the new plan cuts domestic spending to its lowest level to more than half aentury. turning to other news this mornrng -- the frantic search continues for a missing new hampshire girl who was last seen a week ago. divers searched a pond for clues of the disappearance of celina cass. her father pleaded for the girl's return, he was in hospital when she disappeared. >> i can't believe that she's walked off. i can't believevthat somebody has had to kidnapped her. it's the only thing that i can see that happened. she's not the type to o st walk off from somewhere. >> the fbi is now offering a $25,000 reward for information in the case. community member has added another $5,000. investigators from the ntsb are trying to figure out what caused a horrific plane crash in guyana, the pictures show what

those terrifying momenen must have been like. as a caribbean airline plane skidded off the runway. miraculously, all 163 people onboard survived. only 30 people were injured. they mostly suffered broken hands, ankles and minor head injuries. president obama is calling a weekend assault by government forces in syria horrifying. at least 75 people were killed in one of the bloodiest days since the uprising began last march. one eyewitness said, many more are likely dead. people there are simply too afraid to go out into the streets to collect the bodies. the protesters are trying to force syria's president out of force. two american hikers held in iran for two years, are going to have to wait a few days longer to learn whether they'll go free. a judge is expected to decide within a week if the two men are guilty of spying as the government has charged. abc's t.j. winick has more. >> reporter: this silent video is o oy look into their

four-hour court hearings. in which the two americans expected to learn their fate. shane bauer and josh fattal appeared well and in good spirits. despite their two years behind bars. cused of espionage they insist that they're innocent. along with companion sarah spourd, they were arrested in july of 2009. they claim they were hiking, not spying. in a scenic area in northern iraq, unaware that they were perilously close to the iranian border. shourd was released due to illness last september. she rallied with the families friday outsidedef the iranian mission in new york city. >> shane andnocent men.o innocent men. two compassionate, beautiful peoplele if it wasn't for them, i wouldn't be standing here today. and took have the strength to go on. >> reporter: in a statement the family said that we pray the iranian authorities will show compassion. the coming days fill us with great hope but they also will be difficult for our families.

>> we waited and waited. the roller coaster is severe. >> reporter: lives that could be back on solid ground possibly within the week. t.j. winick, abc news, new york the former president of egypt could be put on trial early this week. hosni mubarak has been summoned by the prosecutors to appear in court this weekek he's accused of ordering the killing of pros testers in his country. the 83-year-old is being treated for some health problems. but activists say health concerns are just an excuse to delay the proceedings. now for this morning's weather from around the nation -- stormy with hail from day koe teas. much of the same in the northeast from philadelphia to new york and new england. heavy rain and flash flooding in the desert southwest. pop-up thunderstorms from omaha to the carolinas. extreme heat from south dakota to florida. >> meanwhile, we have 90s from

it seems the markets like what they're hearing about the debt deal. both here in the u.s. and overseas. president obama announced the deal with congressional leaders last night. not long after markets o oned in asia. even though nothing is final just yet, until vote in congress on tuesday, u.s. futures and asian markets both went up quickly. . time now for a check of market activity starting overseas. tokyo's nikkei average gained more than 100 points today. in london, the ftse opened higher. wall street the dow lost 537 points last week. a bright spot in the employment picture this morning and it comes from the auto industry. a survey by an auditing firm found that 62% of auto industry executives plan to hire people in the coming year. for other industries, the number was 52%. the british-based bank hsbc is reportedly expected to announce hundreds of job cuts.

the new york times reports that it also selling 200 branches mostly in upstate new york. most of the workers at those branches in new york will keep those jobs. the sci-fi thriller "cowboys & aliens" took in $36.2 million and so did the "smurfs" movie. the final dollar amounts and the real first-place winner will be known a little later on today. meanwhile captain america came in third, 24 $25 million. >> neck in neck. >> two very different movies. when we come back -- is a decades-long mystery about to be solved? >> d.b., cooper is one of the country's most infamous fugitiveses. now the fbi said that it has a lead in into what actually may have happened to him. we'll be right back. it was an ongoing, deep p in. i didn't understand it. i found out that connected to our muscles are nerves

a tourist from kansas is recovering at a daytona beach, florida, h hpital after getting run over. she was sunbathing on the beach when a driver in the suv made a u-turn and rolled over her head. she's in stable condition. no so far, no charges have been filed. for a look at morning road conditions on this monday, flooding on i-94 to the twin cities. rain drenches i-15 from vegas to salt lake city. wet on i-10 from new orleans to jacksonville. if you're flying, airport delays are possible in salt lake city, denver, phoenix, minneapolis, boston, new york and philadelphia. an insanany defense looks unlikely for the right-wing extremist who admitted to killing dozens of people in norway. a top doctor tells the associated press that anders behring breivik had been in control of his actions.

in norway, an insanity defense requires that defendant be in a state of psychosis. while committing the crime. d.b. cooper became a legend after parachuting out of a hijacked plane with $200,000 in cash. he has not been seen from since. as john donavan reports the mystery might soon be solved. >> reporter: like a ghost, the eyes in the sketch have never blinked once. the taunting question, who am i? now, 40 years after the plane hijacked by the man known to criminal history as d.b. cooper landed without him because he parachuted out the tail with $200,000 in ransom money, news that the fbi has a new lead. a spokesman is quoted as saying "our most promising lead." at the fbi forensic lab in quantico, virginia, they are said to be looking at a piece of property belonging to an apparently new suspect which is all they're saying about a case because the bad guy never found has entered the annals of criminal legend.

>> it was the 1970's version of "bonnie and clyde." >> reporter: jeffrey gray's book "sky jack" comes out in a few weeks. >> he was somebody who, through his daring and courage and romamaicism developed a cult following that continues to this day. ♪ you'll never see d.b. cooper again ♪ >> reporter: indeed, cooper, the name on the ticket he usededhat day in 1971 has been a character for dozens of songs and tv shows, and one film "in n rsuit of d.b. cooper," the story of a man in a suit who shows up with what looks like a bomb, demands money, lets most of the passengers go and then jumps never to be seen again. there's always been the suggestion that maybe, having leapt into the dark somewhere over rural washington state, the so-called d.b. cooper died in his jump. either way investigators have been plagued for years by what's called the cooper curse, promising leads including some 1,000 different possible suspects and the 1980 discovery of some of the ransom money in a

and the search continues this morning for a new hampshire girl that vanished a week ago. $30,000 in reward money is now being offered in hopes of finding 11-year-old celina ss, her dad pleaded for her return yesterday as searchers come bd the area. those who demanded their mtv, they're still getting it three decades later. mtv is celebrating its 30th birthday, a major milestone since going on the away back in 1981. are you feeling old? >> oh yeah. >> back then it focused strictly on music videos. the station has transformed to include original shows. >> do they play videos anymore? >> it's hard to find. i can't remember the last time i have seen a video on mtv. isn't that sad? it's weird.
