good morning, i'm terry mcsweeney. in the news this saturday morning, of thousands get ready for outside lands concert in golden gate park. bart officials say they shut down cellphone service for security. critics say the move violated free speech rights and threatened public safety. >> good morning. dense fog in the city and at the coast but elsewhere it's getting sunny around the bay. >> three-day outside lands music festival is off to a solid start. today's headlines are muse, black keys and girl talk. yesterday's opening had great music, great food and no significant problems that is until a number of fans returned

to where they parked and discovered their cars were gone. john alston reports from golden gate park. ♪ >> the rock band phish jammed them into golden gate park. one of the highlights on the first acts the outside lands music festival. while the jam packed crowd was dancing to the beat. there was not well orchestrated event outside the venue. tickets were being slapped on windshields, tow trucks were hauling away cars. in just a few minutes, a dozen cars were nailed near 39th avenue a few had out of state license plates. >> veteran officer ticked this suv from nevada that was blocking her driveway on 30th avenue.

bus. f.b.i. and police are searching for a two-year-old sacramento girl apparently kidnapped by her father. an amber alert was ironed yesterday and freeway signs were lit up statewide as authorities tried to get the word out to as many people as possible. they are looking for 49-year-old man, a u.s. citizen that was born in egypt and speaks fluent spanish. they believe his daughter could be in danger because a court awarded the mother sole custody. had he was last seen a green 4-runner toyota. bart police are under fire for cutting off cell service at the civic center station thursday night so protestors couldn't communicate with each other. some say it was dangerous and some say it was unconstitutional. bart police are making no

apologies. >> they were prepared for a violent protest that was thwarted by an unusual move. >> i believe turning the power off the antennas. >> they say they turned off the cellphone antennas. it was a tactic to prevent the protestors from using their cellphones which they believed would be a violent protest by the shooting of charles hill by bart police. >> i was certain there was going to be conflict and i didn't want people hurt. >> they say it violated rights of the protestors. >> sub safety is a compelling government interest but to impasse and block the speech of thousands on the possibility of a protest that might impact

public safety does not meet rigorous tests under the first amendment. >> what if there was a critical incident inside those tunnels? what about somebody having a heart attack aboard a bart train? >> the reaction from passengers is mixed. >> free speech and opportunity to communicate about when we want to. >> the chief says there were enough police officers and bart personnel on duty to respond to any emergency quickly. he traded free speech for passenger safety. >> if someone got hurt or killed i don't think that is price we're going to pay for free speech. >> the decision wasn't made lightly and it came from top officials. he says it was a smiamful act. >> it's shocking to see these tactics being deployed in the

united states. oakland police are investigating two fatal shootings overnight. about midnight officers responded to a report of shots fired at 98th avenue. they found a shooting victim dead inside a vehicle that had rolled to a stop in someone's front yard. an hour after that one around 1:00 this morning, a second fatal shooting incident happened near harrington avenue. they found a man dead of a gunshot wound to the head and then half a block away they found a second shooting victim. >> detectives are also investigating a police shooting that happened last night in oakland but they are not releasing a whole lot of information. it happened around 7:30. fruitville avenue. police haven't said what happened or why the officer opened fire in the first place. >> friends and family of the man accused of killing a

three-year-old oakland boy say he is innocent. 26-year-old lawrence denard is accused of firing the shot that killed little carlos nava on monday. denard faced a judge but did not enter a plea. the drive-by shooting they say was gang-related and investigators believe denard was targeting to two-other men but his family says he is being set up. >> if it wasn't a kid, it would have been an investigation, but because it was a kid they have to get somebody. i don't think it's right. >> i have three babies and i know what his family is going through but are innocent until you are proven guilty. >> he has prior arrests. he is expected to enter a plea on august 29. >> los angeles dodgers are asking a judge to throw out key parts of a lawsuit filed by bryan stow's family. it accuses the dodgers partially

responsible for the attack. he blames the assault on poor security and inadequate supervision of alcohol consumption. documentsers say the allegations are improper and don't come form with state laws. two men charged in attacking him entered not guilty pleas on wednesday. >> coming up next, a battle for iowa as republican candidates for president gear up for today's straw poll. and a mural with a message. students take their concerns to the president.

we will peel them back late day to get some sunshine and remain cool there. warm inland and once we see the clouds disperse, temperatures in the mid-60s. still 50s at ocean beach and half moon bay, visibility has been reduced for a time to about 3 miles. we are looking at minor changes in terms of the fog deck, sea breeze today, tomorrow, being sunnier and a little warmer out there. yesterday we saw the higher clouds, notice today the high clouds have pushed east of the bay. tomorrow we will get more of a sea breeze with that trough up to the north and west of us. today with the earlier burnoff we are looking at a sunnier day. it should be nice if you are headed outside. still kind of hot to the east of us. fresno, 99. sacramento still getting a bit of a breeze. 90 there. 107 in palm springs, 73 in

president obama says he will be announcing new proposals in the coming weeks to help american companies hire workers and create jobs. in this morning's address he wants voters to tell congress they are sick of the partisanship that has led to gridlock in washington. >> the idea to make it through the election is more important than making things right, that is what is holding us back. you have a right to be frustrated. i know i am. because you deserve better. i don't think it's too much for you to expect that the people you send to this town start delivering for you. >> president listed several initiatives they wants pass, free trade and improvements in the patent system. wall street wildest week ever ended yesterday with second

consecutive day of gains. they had four 400 point swings in one week. it finished up 125 points but was down 176 for the week. news came on better than expected news on retail sales and rally in european stocks. on thursday, fewer jobless claims than anticipated. one analyst say they may be viewing the economic glass as had half full and not half empty. it was accelerated by new set of software that turbo charges the process. david louie explains how it affects the market. >> it wasn't that many years, that stock transactions were done by people using hand gestures, standing in trading pits. then computers took over. latest development in software that monitors company news and can do trades in microseconds. it's called speed trading or high frequency trading.

it's put put the market on steroids. speed trainer provides the training to individual investors. >> the volume doubled from where it was a week ago before it hit the markets. i would guess that 70% of that is through trading. >> spikes can be caused by not just money or panic by by the faster speed of training. it takes three microseconds to execute a trade and one microsecond to get data from for a stock. a camera flash takes 1,000 microseconds. >> increase in speed, trading firms are locating their servers right at the exchange and they are using software that detect trends much the way google is able to predict your search.

the pump that would pump $45 billion into the economy. authorities are awaiting results of a necropsy on a pit bull. the dog was standing over a badly mauled body of a woman when her husband came home on thursday. the dog was shot and killed by police. they hope the necropsy will provide clues as to what provoked the attack this is abnormal behavior. if it could happen, an attack had to be triggered by something. >> the san mateo coroner performed an autopsy on the woman looking for bite marks that be match the dog to the cause of death. pit bulls are responsible and many will say it's not the breed, it's the training and environment but others believe that pit bulls do seem to be involved in larger number of attacks. jonathan bloom spoke with some experts. >> what is normal other dogs can

do jump on somebody, a pit bull can do that and be deemed dangerous. >> she has trained dogs in pacifica for 15 years. >> that is a good boy. >> not just any dog but they can react to tiny changes in the owner's body chemistry and why a dog may behave differently if their owner becomes pregnant. >> what they do with the changes can be on an individual basis. it could be nothing or they can alert us or get upset or frightened. >> for a smaller dog, it might be just nuisance. for a pit bull it could be deadly. but when it comes to laws, requiring them to be neutered she is worried about with the breed's bad reputation. >> it's not the strongest and not the only one. >> here at san francisco animal

shelter, they have seen a 25% drop in the number of pit bulls that wind up in the kennels and require that breed to be spayed or neutered. they have seen a 40% drop in the number that had to be euthanized. >> animal care director says most serious attacks have involved unneutered males. females don't pose as much of a problem but there is a problem people to comply. >> we get calls and complaints pit bulls that have seen in different parts of the city. a menlo park woman whose random act of kindness is heading to hollywood. she is headed for an award. karina rusk has her story and how you can be part of the club. >> she is packing her bags for hollywood.

a journey that begin two years ago at a grocery store. the woman in line in front couldn't find her wallet. >> i said hey, send me a check. >> the grocery was 207. >> a check for an even 300 arrived the next day urging her to get a massage. instead she went online. >> i said what would you do with the money. they said give it to charity. >> harvested food bank quickly became the charity of choice. suddenly friends and even strangers started matching that $93. >> another one did it. another one did it and it rolled. within four hours it was $600 that had been pledged. by next morning it was over a thousand. >> the $93 club has now raised $125,000 for second har very vest which is why it's nominated for the vh-1 do something award.

sunrise. numbers responding to the sun. it's sunny in concord and livermore. still cloudy in fremont and redwood city holding on to the clouds as well as mountain view. 57 there. more cloud cover and we're looking at the stable air mass keeping it mild. sunny san jose, 60. low clouds and fog around the coast with sunshine sooner. that means a slightly warmer day in downtown san francisco. coast will be looking at a little sun. sunday will be the cooler day but still we're hoping to warm up by next week with low clouds and fog deck shrinking. her is a couple visible pictures you can see how much the wind has been helping us through the overnight hours. it has cleared the fog from eureka, point reyes and dense fog along the central coast. another visible picture shows, we do have the fog here and the set up will be once again,'

breeze, cooler air at the coast. warmer air inland and et sets up to be a typical summer type pattern with the deck shrunk this morning, sitting around the atmosphere, stronger today. areas of low pressure, today backed off so we'll look less of a sea breeze throughout the entire bay. 50s there and 60s in san francisco with the return to those 70s in the south bay. notice the higher clouds pushed to the south and east and that trough tomorrow allows for return of low cloud deck. 71 in san mateo with 59 in half moon bay. in san francisco, mid-60s, afternoon sun, 55. 57 in bodega bay, but expecting sunshine and sea breeze. 70 in san leandro, still the fog going to break apart right here. so it won't be long before

brought into the sonoma county song bird hospital. they would have likely died in the hospital if they were not cared for here. veronica runs the hospital and she leads the team of volunteers that spend hours carrying for the wounded birds that arrive in. this is the only song bird rescue hospital in northern california. >> my story, i found a bird that fell off the eves of our house and they were desperate for volunteers. >> 15 years later. >> we have 8 on the property. >> she has converted much of her two acre home into a hospital for injured birds. >> no water birds but just the song birds. >> these little birds have big appetites. they need to eat every 20 minutes. they'll go through 200,000 meal
