thanks for joining us. >> two men are fighting for their lives after being wounded at candlestick park. the incident occurred shortly after last night's game. a man was shot as many as four times in the stomach. he was wearing a t-shirt curse can the niners. he is at san francisco general hospital with critical injuries. minutes earlier a man was shot. he suffered face wounds. he is also hospitalized. police believe the shootings are related. officers have suspect, a man wearing a raiders' t-shirt that was pulled off a party bus. this time in a bathroom, a 26-year-old san rafael man was found unconscious with severe head wounds. he is fighting for his life at san francisco general. police are looking for a suspect in that case as a pacific islander male, between 25-30 years old.

6'3" to 6'5" weighing 250 pounds with long curly hair tied in a ponytail. doctors say a two-year-old boy will recover after being hit by a stray bullet on the streets of east oakland. the boy's family rushed him to highland hospital yesterday afternoon. the gunshot was in his arm. police say it happened while the boy was walking with his parents on international boulevard and 59th avenue. officers blame a recent string of shootings on too many guns in the hands of criminals. >> it creates a lot of unsafe conditions for children as well as adults. it's really unfortunate that kids are on the other end. >> yesterday's shooting happened a few blocks from where carlos nava was killed. he was caught in the crossfire two weeks ago. oakland police have arrested two men in that case.

a five-year-old boy is recovering after being struck by a hit-and-run driver yesterday morning in san francisco. he was cross the street at silver avenue when he was struck after running ahead of his parents. the boy was taken to the hospital. he is expected to be okay. police are still searching for the car described as an '80s dark green hatchback. disappointing verdict in the trial of two cal graduates may not be the final word. iranian state tv reported that the two have been found guilty of espionage and sentenced to eight years in prison but as the report shows the two hikers may be pawns in diplomatic relations. >> for people that have been following this case, word of an eight year sentence actually raises more questions than it answers. >> ken light was shane's

photography professor. >> i think it's hard to know what it means. is it really a sentence? i understand it can be appealed, could they be released. >> stephen is the chair of middle east studies at university of san francisco. there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the news that they have been sentenced. >> it's possible that this leads to one media source may have been way buy some of the hard line tors encourage this verdict when in fact the verdict may not have been made yet. >> the men were tried in an iranian court earlier this year. they are accused of spying for the united states. iranian experts like this professor says the sentence has been an issue of contention within factions of iran. u.s. government has been limited in its ability to intervene because there has been no diplomatic relations with iran since 1979.

high definition. sunrise getting ready to get underway at 6:30 officially. yesterday morning we saw the break in the clouds. it was just gorgeous and we are waiting for that to happen. marine layer sitting around 2500 feet and cloudy around the coast throughout much of the morning and much of the day today like yesterday. start out with clouds and fog but then things should clear out a little bit. sunshine and by the evening, clouds roll back in. pat degrees in oakland. we have 60s redwood city to livermore and san jose. definitely some light drizzle and patchy fog most areas and some of the fog spreading inland. that is going to be the case throughout the morning. cool just like yesterday. we'll see sunshine in the afternoon, really nice warmup on the way for your workweek.

temperatures should be back up which the summer has been on the cool side. area of low pressure, that is why we've been seeing all the fog and cool temperatures the past few days still hanging on right here. another cool day, by tomorrow and wednesday, high pressure will build in. that is going to mean warmer temperatures. temperatures throughout state have a wide variety, 69 in big sur. 89 up in sacramento. 79 degrees in tahoe. enjoy nice cool conditions while they lot last. let's take a look what is going to happen today. temperature-wise, lots of 70s, santa clara, 77 degrees. san jose, 70 degrees. cool along the coast but upper 50s for your high temperatures. don't temperatures don't vary much along the coast because of all the cloud cover.

raises while the students get socked with higher tuition fees. nannette miranda has the story. >> reporter: just as students are gearing up for a new term, a new proposal would help how campus presidents are selected and how they are paid. they approved the hiring of head of san diego from an east coast school at hundred thousand dollars more than his predecessor and raised tuition at 12% at the same time. >> clearly a portion of the tuition fee hikes is used to subsidize their salary and lean budget times it's the wrong thing to do. >> a state senator's bill limits the pay to $343,000 a year, that is 150% of the salary paid to the chief justice of the california supreme court. none would be allowed if a tuition hike occurred within three years. candidates must be given

preference for the job ernl internally first. >> in the past, administrators said they need to pay well to be able to recruit the best. >> salary cap proposal is top protest among students. they say it's raining debt because of all the loans they had to take out. this year's price tag is too much for some. >> a lot of my friends who don't have the financial aid or can't pay for it, they drop out. >> the students' perspective and what families are going through too. >> bill does not apply to u.c. because the legislature has very little control over it. they announced $140 million in merit raises for faculty and staff to keep them from leaving.

meanwhile, students are paying 10% more in tuition this year. cities around the bay area, san jose is dealing with significant budget problems. san jose is now considering selling one of the three golf courses to help close the deficit. as this report shows, the idea has tweaked a wrong nerve. >> they are considered a valuable' set to residents. >> is the only affordable course i can play. for five bucks i can come out here and play. >> the city of san jose sees the value, too. it's floating the idea of selling the 34 acre site to developers. they are anticipating another $100 million deficit next year. the nine-hole course lost quarter of million dollars last year. >> golf courses, swimming pools they are all important but when there is not enough money to go around you have to make these

difficult choices. >> course is popular with seniors. it's home to a program called first tee that fos kers character development. three generations of the family were golfing today. they believe first tee has helped the 12-year-old grandson. >> it's something to do. keep him clean. keep him out of the elements. >> however, the staff points out the course has more than $5 million in bond debt. payments run close to half a million a year. selling the course could clear the debt and $21 million bond debt on another city owned course. public will have a chance to voice their opinion at a community meeting tonight. they say the district says balancing the budget won't be easy. >> i think closing fire stations and libraries is unacceptable. i don't look at that as an option. >> the third golf course is debt free and profitable.

>> to to realize any savings for next year's budget the golf court sale would happen before next spring but city leaders acknowledge it may take longer than that. the number of families turning to food pantries for help is increasing because of our challenging economy. monument crisis center in contra costa county is one agency providing that invaluable service. from the moment the crisis center opened, executive director never imagined would it grow like it has. >> when we started it was very small. 84 families, now it's 9,3500 families. >> in many ways that growth is a sign of the bad economic times but also an example of the center's commitment to serving all the needs of the community. a chef who was recently laid off says the center has helped him in many ways. >> these people are helping me.

yesterday. look at your temperatures right now. lots of 50s out there and few 60's to be around from livermore down through san jose. 60 degrees. these are high temperatures i am expecting today. 74 for your high in santa rosa. you should be in the 80s today. ten degrees cooler from where you should be. you take a look at san francisco 65 degrees for height and 69 so four degrees below average. anywhere from ten degrees to five degrees below average. definitely cooler than usual weather than the past few days. this area of low pressure hasn't moved much at all. right here, pretty good onshore flow that will continue each day. morning fog and drizzle right through the early morning hours. temperatures around 60 degrees. by noon, a little break in the

on his website. they say the closures are knows cover the two-year, $22 million cuts in the state parks budget. the plan was passed in march. >> a place like this, i don't know. i can't imagine it not being somewhere where everyone can come. >> other stated parks will close unless money or resources are found to keep them open. >> how else are you going to save $22 million if if you've been cut quite a bit for several years. the budget has been reduced by 44% since 2006. park staff staffing is currently at 1979 levels but the park system has grown by 500,000 acres and 10 million more visitors per year. of the 278 parks, 150 have been affected by budget cuts.
