candlestick park during a game this time in a bathroom. 26-year-old san rafael man was found unconscious with severe head injuries. he some in critical condition. police are looking for a suspect in that attack. described as a pacific islander male 6'3" to 6'5" weighing 250 pounds with long curly hair and a ponytail. he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. >> a two-year-old boy will recover after being hit by a stray bullet on the streets of east oakland. the boy's family rushed him to highland hospital yesterday afternoon with a gunshot wound to the arm. police say it happened while the boy was walking with his parents on international boulevard and 59th avenue. officers blamed a recent strain of shootings on o too many guns. >> it creates a lot of unsafe

conditions for children as well as adults. it's really unfortunate that kids are on the other end. >> yesterday's shooting happened four blocks where three-year-old carlos nava was killed. as you probably know he was caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting two weeks ago. oakland police have arrested two men in that case. a five-year-old boy is recovering after being struck by a hit-and-run driver yesterday morning in san francisco. he was crossing the street at silver avenue when he was struck after running ahead of his parents. boy was taken to the hospital. he is expected to be okay. they are looking for a dark green hatchback car. >> the families of two people found guilty in iran are speaking out this morning. they had been sentenced to eight years in prison and their

families are appealing to the iranian government to show benevolence. the appeal we appeal to the authorities in iran to show compassion and allow them to return home to our families without delay. here is a report the two hikers may be pawns in diplomatic relations. >> reporter: for people who have been following this case, word of a possible eight year sentence for the two hikers actually raises more questions. the photography professor at u.c. berkeley. >> what does it mean. is it rail a sentence? i understand it could be appealed and what happens in the appeal may be time served. >> steven is the chair of middle studies at university of san francisco. he says there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about news that bauer and fattal have been sentenced. it's possible that this news

leak one media source may have been a way to buy some of the hard-liners to encourage but the verdict may not have been made yet. >> the two men were tried in an iranian court this year and they are accused of spying for the united states. iranian experts like this professor say their sentence has been an issue of contention between factions in iran. u.s. government has been limited to intervene in this case because there is no diplomatic relations with iran since 1979. a spokeswoman did issue a short statement in response to the latest development saying we have remitted called for the release of the two who have now been held in prison for two years. they were first arrested in july of 2009 on the iran-iraq border with their friend sarah shourd. all three have consistently said they were tourists in a hike in

kurdish iraq. sara shourd was released for health reasons. people are still holding out hope. >> my reaction to the news there is a sentence is, of course, upsetting. i think we all hope that somehow with the holidays in iran right now there will be a way for them to be released. >> the professor says he is hoping the iranian government will release them as an expression of mercy during the ramadan holiday. i did speak to a spokesperson of the families of the two men and they say they are not commenting on the latest developments. it's been almost three months since she disappeared but family and friends of missing nursing student michelle le are not giving up. a search yesterday marks the seventh time volunteers have looked for le since she vanished on may 27th. le was last seen going to her

down deep in a tropical rain forest in malaysia where cellphone service doesn't exist. hacker group anonymous is planning another protest at 5:00 p.m. at the civic center bart station to protest the transit agency's decision to shut down cellphone service. bart did that to try to disrupted demonstrations over a fatal officer-involved shooting in july. yesterday in an open letter to its customers bart defended their cellphone decision. it reads quote bart received credible information that the safety would be compromised. out an overriding concern for our passenger safety bart made the decision to temporarily interrupt cellphone service. bart says it does not want repeat of protest on july 11th when a protestor climbed top of

a train blocking the doorways. that was a serious threat to operations of the transit system and disrupted the service of 96 bart trains. you are looking at a demonstration from last monday. bart is facing heated criticism and criticism for halting the weirms service. last monday it shut down all the bart stations during evening commute hours. they are considering when if ever the agency will shut off the wireless networks again. coming up next, more than a million pilgrims celebrate a mass with pope benedict xvi in spain. the attack on tripoli rebel forces are closing in on moammar khadafy.

they greeted pope benedict xvi in madrid this morning. this the final day of the catholic church's youth festival and it brought out a million pilgrims to see and hear the pope. he called them to be missionaries of the faith and urging them to share their convictions with others. rio de janeiro will be the site of the next world youth day in

2013. rebel forces are tightening the noose around libyan leader mf qa qa. they captured a major military base 16 miles west of tripoli. moammar khadafy tenure is being measured by days. hire is the latest. >> reporter: moammar khadafy is running out of options after 41 years in power. rebels have begun what they are calling the real assault on the capital of tripoli hitting it from three fronts on the ground and from nato airplanes from the sky. they took control of cities to the east and west of tripoli. he called in on tv on saturday night, claiming the rebels were being chased from city to city. that appears to be contrary to the reality on the ground.

in a sign of momentum that seems to be in the hands of the rebels the government has refused to take sides of the libyan revolution but this weekend the government recognized the libyan rebels as the sole legitimate government of libya. it's not a question if he will go but a question of when. president obama is being briefed on developments in libya. here at home on the economy he is getting a lot of fire from the right as expected but he is also being hammered by the left. liberal constituents is he is annoying those communities that need the -- ignoring those communities that need the most help. >> he fought hard in debt ceiling negotiations to make sure the safety nets medicaid and pell grants of all

afternoon. hello, santa cruz nice shot there. notice the cloud cover. i was at santa cruz last weekend and had a good time. expect clouds but nice to get out and about. i am riville good morning to you. notice the clouds, usually you can see the golden gate but it's socked in. marine layer is fairly thick to about 3000 feet. good sunday morning to you. 57 degrees in oakland. 61 in concord. 65 in antioch. redwood city is at 60 degrees. close-up view of the satellite. definitely all the cloud cover the fog especially along the coast and even into the bay. that is going to be the trend throughout the day today. especially in the morning hours clouds will stake around throughout this morning. fog and perhaps light drizzle along the coast but by this afternoon sunny breaks into the

inland areas and warmer weather finally on the way by the middle part of the week ahead. i think we're all looking forward to that. here is what is happening. water vapor imagery showing the water streaming in. it's drawing in the moisture. this is the pattern we've had for the last several days. we have a thick marine layer onshore flow onshore breeze keeping things cool in most areas. it will be with us by monday afternoon it will start to weaken and start to warm up. barriers of high pressure will build in. talking about cool temperatures here is my forecast santa rosa 74. your average should be at 84 so about ten degrees below average. you get the idea. many areas five degrees below average. kind of cool for a summer day. we'll take it. 77 degrees in santa clara. 78 in san jose as we move up the

peninsula. 58 in pacifica. 59 in half moon bay. further up to the north i'm looking for 65 degrees in the city. maybe some breaks in the clouds this afternoon especially as you head up to the north 70s 72 in san rafael. out towards the east bay 68 degrees in oakland. they had their jazz festival going on today. quite a few clouds sunshine and you'll see more sunshine out to the east and a little warmer temperatures with 80s down through santa cruz and monterey bay 64 degrees there. 77 in gilroy. accu-weather seven-day forecast again we'll start to clear things up by tomorrow and through the middle part of the week. sunshine and warmer days ahead. a lot of people are looking forward to that. enjoy your sunday no matter what. >> i was out there yesterday with my friends of breast cancer but mid-morning sun came up.

welcome back. all the wrangling over the debt ceiling and wildly fluctuating stock market have taken its toll over the real estate market. they report that july home sales in the bay area fell nearly 14 am from june that is the third worst month of july on record. laura anthony reports.

presidents at cal state universities from getting hefty pay raises. nannette miranda has the story. >> reporter: just as students are gearing up for the fall term a new proposal out of sacramento how presidents are selected and how much they are paid. it comes after trustees approved the hiring of head of san diego state from an east coast school at hundred thousand dollars more than his predecessor and raised tuition 1% at the same time. >> clearly tuition fee hikes are used to subsidize salaries. >> state senator's bill limits the pay to $343,000 a year. that is 150% of the salary paid to the chief justice of the california supreme court. no raises or bonuses would be allowed if a tuition hike occurs

within three years. and internal candidates must be given precedence for the job. no comments are on the proposal because they are investigating presidential pay and selection process. but in the past administrators say they need to pay well to recruit the best. >> it's popular among students that have been protesting tuition hikes over the years. they say it's raining debt because of all the loans they had to take out. this year's $5500 price tag is too much for some. >> one of my friends that don't have the financial aid they dropped out. >> particularly about the students' perspective. >> it doesn't apply to u.c. because the legislature has very little control over it.

they announced merit raises to keep them from leaving. u.c. students are paying 10% more in tuition this year. >> tomorrow daly city council members are expected to reluctantly agree to pay out millions of dollars to keep their redevelopment agency alive. the council is considering to make an almost $3 million payment to schools and special districts. back in june governor brown signed legislation that would dissolve redevelopment agencies in october unless the payments are made. state is being sued to stop the elimination on the constituent loss of tax revenue. belmont and san jose have chosen to make the payments. >> san francisco kleh a lot of money from parking tickets. merchants are fed up how parking tickets are hurting business. they decided to hold a little

picture. this is x-ray film. >> the images are three feet by 14 inches he had to build a camera so big as you climb into it. yes that image is the view finder is upside-down. the camera doesn't have a conventional shutter either. just pull off the lens cap and count. you have to make sure you don't jar the camera. that happens a lot. that is why why i have to take more than one shot. >> when he began these pictures didn't exactly turn out perfectly. this is the first one. with all the flaws and all the imperfections, it's one of his favorites. >> this was like 1860. >> his work follows the classic philosophy that a true photograph is the end of a

if you own a home you know that every mortgage lender requires you to have mortgage insurance. when wells fargo accused one homeowner of not having it he called 7 on your side. here is michael finney with the story. >> the relationship between humans and computers is not always a smooth one. that is evidenced by a san carlos man and his dealings with his mortgage company. >> even if the humans at wells fargo tells something is wrong the computer doesn't listen. >> the problem for juno started

when he switched companies for his house in moraga. the change didn't get to wells fargo and the bank told him he needed to buy insurance. it was further complicated when he moved from that home in moraga to sachb car loss. he sent the bank proof of insurance and followed up with a phone call. >> when i did give the proof. there is no issue with your insurance. it an issue of our computer system. >> but he continued to get notices that he lacked insurance. finally the bank billed him for $6,000. two years words 67 home insurance it purchased for him. half that money was eventually refund today him when wells fargo realized the mistake but he still wand the refund for both years. >> that is when i decided to call 7 on your side because it's been going on for ten months.

daughter want to rule the world. he needs a missing piece and conan has to stop him in a race to save the world. some weird water creatures and dorky dialogue. it takes a back seat to the action. the film is primitive and loud. the director got his training doing music videos. >> it's rated "r" because of the intense gore and nudity. there is some sex appeal with his shirt off i guess. but arnold without the accent. he used to a model before making films, models don't talk. don't waste your money on 3-d. see it in 2-d unless you like
