>> reporter: throughout the night. new york city remained on o lock down. checkpoints on bridges and tunnels in and out of manhattan. >> there is police everywhere. there are blockades everywhere. >> across the city traffic gridlocked. >> this is about the worst i have seen it. this is a nightmare. >> in the subways, police everywhere. police on high alert that working off little information, some of it at best secondhand. it's been a frantic 72 hours hours as they tracked it down. it started on wednesday in pakistan where the c.i.a. first developed the information. three men including one and maybe more american citizens had traveled to the u.s. in late august or early september from pakistan through dubai with an attack to new york or washington with a vehicle bomb on september 10th are 11th or 12th. they called it credible and the information very specific but

unconfirmed. >> late wednesday night the intelligence was relayed to washington and c.i.a. headquarters. early thursday another the white house the president and vice president received the first of several briefings on the vehicle bomb threat. around 7:00 p.m. as the president arrived to address congress, f.b.i. and c.i.a. were in high gear. >> you use all the resources we have. people are working 24/7 on this issue. >> reporter: they are reporting this morning that officials know the name of one of three men but do not have anybody in custody. president obama and rudy guliani are using their addresses to send a unified message. they should honor the heroes while remaining vigilant of would be terrorists. we'll take a look where the attacks begin and reflecting on the attacks in washington, new york and pennsylvania claimed more than 3,000 american

valedictorian. she was a president of the small computing company when she went to the world trade center north tower. it was a rare visit. >> it was coincidence. she was there only 15 minutes before the plane struck. >> she was on the 106th floor. >> when the call came both brothers called my mother. >> the hardest thing in my life. >> i'm pretty sure she would have jumped. >> she keeps her remnants of her things in the house and garage. >> some of the things we discarded. >> tangible stuff from a life and loved one lost. >> it's no different from me the 7th or every single one. life is loss without her and pain and never changes, night,

finding him in a ceiling panel above the store office. they were called to the taken scene about 10:00 last night. the suspect was inside but all the employees had been accounted for. s.w.a.t. team and police dog were sent into the store but it was reportedly tear gas that got the man out. >> a red flag warning is in effect for parts of the bay area this morning because of lightning strikes. thunderstorms like this one seen in alameda sky last night have been moving into the area. lightning sparked several fires last night around mount diablo. we have pictures of those, 60 acre blaze on the west side of the mountain in the walnut creek area. no homes or buildings threat but neighbors down the hill were concerned. >> it was just like a wall of flames. a little bit down the hill going to the side and it looked like it was going back the other way. a little bit. we were like, we had the car in

the driveway just in case. >> we were expecting lightning strikes but they made ground contact and we had several fires. >> they were completely contained last night. firefighters are still on standby in the diablo range. it's been cancelled for the east bay but still in effect for the north bay and in the monterey area. it was one year ago yesterday that underground gas pipeline explosion exploded? san bruno. deadliest pipeline accident in more than a decade killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. survivors gathered to commemorate the first anniversary. lyanne melendez reports. >> reporter: in the solemn ceremony the city remembered the 8 people who died a year ago. breeze, bay bridge and we've got some gray behind you. we can see the waves. more from lisa argen in about 45 seconds from now. >> first, thousands of people in pennsylvania are waiting for the go ahead to return home after heavy flooding across the state. take a look at amazing video. a small house floating along the river and crashing into a bridge. that is the roof of the house you. you see above the water line. you see it smashed and the roof, part of it goes away and whatever is left and the rest of the roof goes floating on down the river. bad scene in the northeast. what a period they've had. earthquake and then the flooding wow. >> back home we're looking at subtle changes but most of the bay area is looking fairly typical in terms of low clouds and fog but the temperatures are much warmer. take a look. it looks like the same old,

golden gate bridge, mist, drizzle and fog. half a mile to three-quarter mile visibility along our coast. here is a look from mount tam. this marine layer at about thousand feet with that stable air in place, we're looking at a nice afternoon today. if you are staying here or traveling south or east, you'll notice the changes. and camera showing sunshine. very mild temperatures, would you believe 77 out by antioch. that is because the southwesterly wind. 67 with sun and livermore and fog is banked up along the shoreline and as a result the cooler temperatures. you go further south, san luis obispo this morning, reporting rain. so numbers anywhere from below average or below where we were yesterday, one degree to 12 degrees above where we were. a warmer air mass with moisture. that will allow for

thunderstorms, possibility mainly south around monterey, san benito right through the weekend. in the north bay, possibility of dry lightning until 11:00 above 1500 feet. offshore wind are still blowing at this hour and more of the onshore push tomorrow bringing cooler temperatures to start the week. >> here is a look at what we can expect throughout the morning hours. gusty winds and north bay mountains and also as you are heading out to the sierra nevada foothills have a risk of severe weather. what we are adding is more moisture so the risk of dry lightning decreases and wet thunderstorms will be with us, possibility from monterey on south. here at reason why. at we look at satellite composite. counterclockwise rotation an area of low pressure that will stay here and right through monday. here is a live doppler 7-hd. look at all the activity.

santa cruz cloudy conditions, sun is on the way here but threat of thunderstorms in parts of monterey, sunny skies in san jose. as we head further north, mount tam showing the marine layer the stable atmosphere keeping a lid on things for now. this is sutro and as we head further north, we are talking low clouds and fog flowing into the bay. with that the numbers have been held down close to the coast. fog is with us. look at the temperatures in east bay, our east bay valleys, out towards fairfield, in the 60s and 70s this morning. so we're talking a wide spread this morning, today will be the warmer day out of the weekend and threat of thunderstorms for the next couple of hours. the dry lightning in the north bay perhaps but this morning, you are noticing the warmer air out there. 6-80 degrees warmer this morning

from concord and fremont and antioch. san francisco, maybe a degree cooler over the last 24 hours. so the red flag warning until 11:00 this morning. about 1500 feet. hills of north bay. thunderstorms are possible from monterey points south looking at a very active pattern this morning. we'll show you that in just a moment. this system will continue the threat throughout the weekend but cooler air is on the way tomorrow as the stronger onshore push heads our way. dry lightning the wet thunderstorms throughout the sierra nevada and into the north bay right through 11:00. gusty offshore winds, still the possibility and down by monterey we are looking at still very inclement weather. take a look at the area of low pressure. you can see rotation. subtropical moisture is flowing north and with that lift provided by the low we're talking big thunderstorms from los angeles, orange county, notice around santa ana the reds
