they are at the scene where a body has been found. >> twisted and turned and wham. >> spectators left stunned the death toll is now at 9 after a plane slams into a crown during an air show. a mass i have hunt is on the way for a man accused of murder. >> good evening everyone. i am hal len woal len wong. investigators are at a scene where a body has been found near knoll. it could be linked to a missing nursing student. think arrested janelest van for the death of michelle lee. it was a search conducted my michelle lee's family today. leslie brinkley is at the site in rural alameda town key. >> this site along the canyon has been searched before. let's take a look from sky 7.

this is a live look of the search going on right now for evidence as investigators are out on foot here. today marked the 8th independent search organized by the lee family. sthefrned this area on foot this morning. a very row motor area along the creek bed and railroad tracks off of presence and sinole road. now here's a look at alameda county investigators and hayward police as they sealed off access to this crime scene earlier this afternoon. hayward police are searched this area before. they have conducted 7 searchs since lee disappeared from kaiser hospital garage in hayward. this morning a volunteer made a very disturbing find. today one of the search party members did discovery mains. right now that's all we know. there is nothing that indicates

gender with the remains. the body is decomposed. >> the crime lab technicians are on the scene collecting evidence. ed bthe body is still here in thick gruby brushy terrain. they may have to wait several weeks especially if dna tess something required. there haven't been obvious articles of clothing or items that would tell them definitive think also michelle lee. they are assisting at the scene with alameda county investigators. this is a significant find in their investigation looking for a body in this murder case. a may be a couple weeks until we know. no confirmation this is the body of michelle lee. thank you leslie. federal investigators are now on the ground in reno, nevada trying to determine the cause of a disastrous air crash at an air

show yesterday. diane has been reporting on the crash since shortly after it happened. >> this is a deadly accident to begin with and the death toll continues to climb. 9 confirmed so far. they are working to determine what went so terribly wrong. >> the national championship air races were screaming across the desert sky at 500 miles per hour when something went wrong. it rolls and plunges into a vip section on the tarmac. it cuts through the crowd. >> parts of things flying through the air. >> everybody at first was screaming and then running. >> like a war zone. there were body parts all over. >> at least 50 people were rushed to the hospital.

there were nine dead including 74-year-old pilot jimmy lee ward a popular respected vet veran o the air show circuit. some suspect he may have blacked out. >> it went rooifrt my head. i was thinking cool never seen a plane that close. >> looked like nobody was flying the plane. >> they believer mechanical failure was to blame. look at the tail along the side you can see parts breaking off. only the ntsb can say for sure what caused the crash. >> this is just the beginning of this investigation. the focus now is on gathering factual information. >> along with the team there are many people on-site that witnessed yaesd accident. they are here to console one another after the aftermath of a terrible tragedy.

>> i pilots and crews spent the afternoon loading their planes back on to their trucks. abc 7 jonathan bloom spent the day with them and he joins us live from reno with their part of the story. jonathan? >> you know the pilots are just stone somber and quiet compared to how lively they were a day ago. it is tough to see the entire tarmac full after yesterday it was so lively. they are putting their planes on the trucks getting ready to leave possibly for the last time. as a result he's worried the entire few due of air racing could be done. >> the plane looked like it was coming toward us. i was running for the hills really. >> tailor eldredge has been building airplanes with his father sivensz 12 years old. >> there's always someone crashing every year but never

weapon. officers shot at him but wound up hitting two bystanders instead. the suits respect is in custody and they have his weapon but they are not saying how many fired their guns or how many shots were fired. the innocent victims are expected to recover from their wounds. police are investigating the discovery of a body that could be linked to a crime spree that happened yesterday afternoon. san jose police are calling paul ray castillo public enemy number one. 5 foot 9 ways 220 pounds. nick smith has the latest from san jose. >> we are minutes away from a police briefing from investigators for police to say

paul castillo is a parole lee from department of corrections. he is a wanted man. >> oo more than a dozen uniform officer from san jose police department surround this home off of king road. over the loud speaker an order for this man 33-year-old paul castillo wanted as a suspect in yesterday's armed robbery car jacking and officer involved shooting will surrender. >> he was a dangerous individual. >> police tell abc 7 newscast till low is behind a crime spree that started on lincoln avenue around 10:00 a.m. yesterday. at tha castillo shot a man while he was pumping gas in his car in what they say may have been a robbery. castillo who drove a stolen vehicle to this shopping center at monterey road and chanced upon who they were calling the

second victim 60-year-old cindy winn of campbell. she was car jacked and kidnapped and taken here. a man resembling castillo fired and officers fired shots. it's not clear if the suspect returned fire but the order for shelter in place was given. one of the neighbors showed me what she said to be was evidence of a destroyed gate and proof that police were leaving no stone unturned. police received information the body of a woman matching lose lie the description of ms. winn was found. >> it's an adult woman of asian accidents. they are completing their investigation and identify the person. she is described as a 33 hispanic male black hair brown eyes and wearing dark colored

>> several00 people marched through oakland. the coalition of churches and a group called save soldiers against vie elevens ry where organized the march. it travelled past lake merit to the front steps of city hall. the oakland police chief talked to them when they rived downtown. it started last year when he was killed on the grounds of a local church. a low blow to many pack you. they found people trying to burglar his home. detectives stumbled upon a burglary in progress at his la home. the break in happened when a security guard went out for

lunch. detectives were in the area on an unrelated investigation when they saw the home being burglarized. the gum bee robbery has been solved. they found a man dressed in gum by robbing a store and now the 19-year-old suspect turned himself in. >> oo they were just fooling around. >> from her front door her moth brother and friend were playing a prank. that may have them in trouble with the law. you can see a man in the gum by costume. that man identified as 19-year-old jacob kid who said he had a weapon and was demanding money. watch what happens when reaches into his pocket.

up today. here is a great shot from our high definition camera a puff of fog as you pan around you can see this coming into view the golden gate bridge. what a nice day it was today. wasn't it? not in the way of low cloudiness. temperatures started to heat up in the 80s inland 82 in antioch. concorde 83. 81 santa rosa. neve var row 84. hampton bay 60 degrees. we have 77 mountain view and 78 in san jose. limited fog development overnight tonight. clear most locations just a touch of a little puff of coastal fog here and there. get ready for a warming trend it will kick in as we head to sunday afternoon.

>> reno police say 9 people have died in the crash of an airplane crashing in reno. the mass casualty incident with 56 victims going to three area hospitals most with life threatening injuries. the national transportation safety board is now on the scene and has begun investigating. the people who run the air show say they think a mechanical problem caused the crash. we have more on the pictures that could hold the clues.

>> they are sifting through the wreckage. >> more than likely a failure in one of the flight control systems. we will have to wait to find out. >> look at these two photographs this is the vintage plane earlier in its flight. this is it after. look at the tale and alo -- tai and along the sides. you can see parts breaking off. the photographs show a clear mechanical failure that may have caused a chain of events that caused the crash. >> they have older planes in death defying stunts. last month at a kansas city air show pilot brian jenison lost control of his plane. it plummeted to the ground bursting into flames. the same day a british air force jet crashed at an event in the u.k.

it is that danger that draws fans and pilots to the sport. >> if we are asking the question how can we make it perfectly safe, we are barking up the wrong tree. >> sometimes it is mechanical error but often it is mechanical failure. >> sometimes there is horrible collateral damage. in this 2007 air show a blue angel jet crashed into a neighborhood causing terrible mess. >> they have to investigate to find out what really happened. >> the pilot who died in the crash is 74-year-old veteran stunt pilot from hollywood of ocala florida. he was a beloved member of a tight knit flying community. they deal with wildfires

including one that reached the campus of a high school nearly in dallas. this fire started near the tennis courts at the local high school on saturday. the flamwind pushed it toward t campus. they grabbed fire extinguishers and attacked the flames before firefighters arrived. >> tried to stop the fire before the flames spread more. >> everybody wants to stand together. this is their time. this is our town. we are going to do whatever we can for it. >> a saw used on concrete started the fire. a boil water order is in effect for red wood city homes after a scare. they expect the tests will be

completed i by tomorrow afternoon. they discovered an unauthorized well yesterday in an order boarding wooled side road virginia avenue rosemary lane and see aierra street. 1,000 pounds has been pumped into the system over the pass two weeks. more than 80,000 took part in the volunteer effort as coastal cleanup day. people of all ages pitched in and helped pick up litter. 300 rotc cadet helped. similar cleanups took place at more than 800 sites up and down california today. in germany they don't wait until october to celebrate oktoberfest. cheers oktoberfest has begun. how many pints of beer h@

>> the annual grape harvest has started in napa valley. we have good news from the wine country. >> grape growers are optimistic about this year's crop. it has been a relatively mild year. no big hot spikes in the weather which could burn the grapes. >> it has been a cool year. they won't have much time getting the grapes perfectly right. >> he said the late rains and spring interrupted the blooming process this year. the grapes didn't have a chance to go through the normal fert vation process which means fewer

>> as soon as i heard the word i knew exactly what it meant. >> they had arrived decades earlier. william randolph hurst found it bought it dismantled it and shipped the stones here with plans to rebuild them in a grand style. after the depression it never happened. to pay a storage debt he gave them to the city. they used some of them in all places the japanese tea garden. the city turned what remained of the stones into a young museum. it never quite knew what to do with them. pienlly after close to 40 years of hard effort by father thomas in 94 the museum gave the montessouri back to the monks. >> it is a beautiful part of our heritage. it's an air loom. it belongs to us. >> even then some of the monks are skeptical. >> jigsaw puzzle. >> until they found frank.

>> how many stones? >> i have no idea. >> went to work based on rough architectural drawings from the 1930s saving old stones when possible crafting new ones when necessary. >> it's difficult to conceptualize but the original ones were carved 800 years ago. if you look closely they tell stories. >> original stonemason by the 13th century. these marks were meant as an accounting tool. they were paid by the stone not by the hour like today. >> the monks estimate the project will take two more years and cost several million dollars. that's quite a task for those who have taken a vow of poverty.
