archaeological dig. people on hands and knees and digging around the remains. they are going to do the best they can to pull the remains out as one hole movement. >> the alameda county sheriff's office and hayward police swarmed into this remote canyon near interstate 680 and sunol at 10:30 saturday morning after volunteer searcher reported a body had been found. >> one of the search party members did discover remains. right now, that is all we know. there is nothing that indicates gender with the remains. the body is decomposed. >> it could be weeks before the body is identified with dna testing. alameda crime slab processing all the evidence. this was the eighth time the family of missing nursing student michelle le mounted an

independent search for her. brad dennis was in charge of the team that found the remains. >> we had law enforcement on the search and secured the area and backed out of the area. >> hayward police had searched the same creek bed according to those that live nearby. >> the last message from the cellphone is somewhere around this area. >> they have been searching here a lot. >> searched here when three times. >> the family had no comment on the remains. michelle le was last seen a parking garage in hayward on may 27. >> reporter: right now it's unknown if the body that was found here is that of michelle le or someone else. they are hoping maybe in just a few days at least to be able to determine if the remains is that of a male or female. that is photo of giselle esteban, a former friend of le. she was arrested earlier this month and charged with murder in

the case. police believe esteban attacked the nursing student in the parking garage at kaiser hospital in high ward. she is due back in court tomorrow. there are renewed calls to permanently end the air show in reno after friday's deadly crash. the death toll stands at nine. n.t.s.b. investigators took their first tour of the scene last night. during friday's races a world war ii p-51 mustang went into a nosedive crashing on to the tarmac. spectators were hit by a wall of flying shrapnel. alan wang has our update. >> reporter: some noticed a strange engine noise from above. seconds later the plane nose-dived into a vip section. going up and impossible angle

slightly above vertical. >> it twisted and turned and wham! it was all brown smoke and debris. >> this was bad. we had a lot of very severely injured people. >> nine people were killed. 69 injured including two children. doctors say there were a lot of broken bones, lacerations and amputations. >> national transportation safety board investigators are carefully examining photos and video of the final seconds before the crash including sfoets photos that appear to show a trim tab breaking off the tail. it holds crucial information but it's unlikely the plane had a flight recorder. >> they have raised that question because some of modifications to the aircraft. it's unclear with the impact and the seed there will be anything available. >> the ntsb confirmed the pilot

jimmy leeward modified his airplane by shortening wing span. now, they will determine if he gave up control with more speed. >> he has exemplar aircraft which let us understand the system in the modified aircraft. >> they will be looking into a plane and environment. despite the impact that shattered the plane into thousands of tiny pieces, investigators recovered portions of the tail from the crash that left a crater three feet deep and six to eight feet wide. investigators have recovered an object which may be the piece alan was talking about that was seen falling off the plane's tail section but at this point they are calling it an object. with the air races cancelled they are questioning the fate of their sports. jonathan bloom sat down with some of them and talked to one man who is worried this crash could bring the entire sport of

air racing to an end. we know it could happen. there has been a crash every year but never in a crowd. >> he has been building airplanes since he was 12 years old. he has always known it was dangerous but watching that fighter plane plunge to the ground was nothing like he's ever seen. >> it looked like it was coming towards us. i was running for the hills really. >> sick feeling down the stomach that you have to deal with ask. >> he is dealing with another sick feeling knowing as a result of the tragic crash he may never see the reno air races ever again. >> i look forward and no, maybe we're not coming back. >> so you are not coming back. >> there won't be any races. it's such a crash and horror.

>> among the crew members slowly packing up to go home, many say they don't want this to be a the end. >> i would hate to see this industry, the air show and air racing industry be shut down because of this accident. >> darrell says the air racing world is tight-knit and leeward was right in the center. >> i grew up hearing about his reputation, what a great person he was not only as a great pilot but mentor to other pilots. >> his wife is fielding calls from friends and family. >> a lot of people knew he was flying in the race. >> but her thoughts are with those that are hospitalized. >> dozens of victims are treated for their injuries the fate of air racing itself lies in the hands of federal authorities. they will determine the cause of the crash but also whether it's safe for the sported to continue.

san jose police say their top priority this weekend is to find a man who has been on violent crime spree since friday morning. police are looking for that man, he is 33-year-old paul reyes castillo. he is wanted for armed robbery, kidnapping and murder. tomaramon has been following the story and brings us this report from san jose. >> reporter: the body of cindy was found here at north 12th street. these cellphone photos were given to us by a neighbor. it shows police at the house and this has neighbors shocked. >> the neighbors, they want him to be caught. >> he had lived in the house for about a month and always made neighbors nervous. they are searching for him where they say she remembered and desperate. he is 5'9" and 210 pounds. his capture is number one priority. >> at the present time when you have this type of crime we do

not experience these types of crimes in san jose very often. >> he begin his one man crime spree in the morning. he approached a man pumping gas and shot him. he sped off in stolen nissan. it was recovered an hour later. this is where police carjacked cindy. the last she heard she was getting help with her stalled car. >> the battery died and five minutes later, an hispanic person is offering to help her. that is the last we heard ofer. >> dozens of officers searched the home complex after they spotted a man that looked like him in a car. they fired at him and chased him into complex. the search came up empty. >> he has been described as a one man crime spree. there is no way for us to begin to speculate what is in his mind

antioch. you get the idea. numbers are going anywhere from 3-6 degrees warmer than yesterday without the fog and than the warmer start high pressure building in, warmer afternoon. so even when we cool off by late in the workweek it won't be as dramatic as we usually see. we'll hold to some of the warmth. offshore flow, warm through hot mid-week. we will be looking at the fog staying offshore. here is a look at tomorrow morning. look how far it is. southern california may see some by tomorrow afternoon. and then the offshore flow continues and numbers should surpass the mid 90s. but in the low 70s for san francisco. we're talking 80s into santa clara. even around castro valley topping out in the 80s with low 90s inland. get used to it for the next few days. the days are much shorter so sun

welcome back everyone. an alameda county medical examiner will try to identify a body found yesterday by volunteers searching for missing nursing student michelle le. in f dna tests are required it could take weeks to determine. volunteers were checking a remote area off of 680 near sunol where one searcher found human remains. a police officer immediately sealed off the area and called in crime scene investigators. >> one of search party members did discover remains. right now, that is all we know. there is nothing that indicates gender, wt remains. body is decomposed. >> searchers were checking that

specific area because it was one of last places where michelle le's cellphone signal was detected back when she disappeared from the kaiser permanente hospital in hayward. giselle esteban a former friend of le is charged with her murder but yet to enter a plea. she is due back in court on tuesday. there are new calls to bring a permanent end to those reno air races as the death toll rise had to nine. on 60 have been released from hospital but nine are still in critical condition. federal investigators are trying to fix the horrific crash. david wright reports n.t.s.b. investigators are were at the event and saw the crash. >> after the shock and panned mondayium of the crash -- pandemonium of the crash now the search for answers.

through the normal process which means fewer berries. bottom line we'll have a smaller crop this year. fortunately that doesn't compromise the quality. when you have sort of a slow warming, gradual warming the flavor and sugars develop at the same time so when you are ready to harvest. >> because of the majority and reipg process started late. this year's heart will get a late start. >> and to come to this event. >> and they told reporters the annual harvest media briefing there has been bad years for napa valley grape growers. they have been hit in the downturn. >> they have been purchasing as many grapes. >> reporter: but he says the industry appears to be on the upswing. >> we're starting to go up. >> reporter: they will start picking itself grapes in three

running parallel to the coast. it's going to stay there for the next several days. hints of it here and there may come from up the south into southern california, but all of california experiencing a warmup the next several days. right now numbers have come up significantly with the sunshine. 59 in oakland. 68 in fairfield. down to 46 earlier this morning in half moon bay. 57 and 63 in san jose and in fact we've got several upper 40s from redwood city to hayward. pretty cool out there with those nights getting longer but overall numbers are up 3-6 degrees warmer than yesterday. this will be the trend not only for tuesday and wednesday. then on the last day of summer thursday, looks like we'll see more fog. clear skies and warm to hot temperatures through mid-week. waiting until the final days of summer to bring us very warm weather. there is the fog. it stays off through tomorrow and in fact our winds are going

to be very, very light. that is means high fire danger and higher up you go. if you take a bike ride, be extra careful. very dry conditions and drier air making it's down to the surface as the marine layer becomes more compressed. look at the 70s all around the coast but we're still looking today the number 2 degrees above normal. as the high continues to build in the next several days, we'll see the numbers come up two or three degrees each day. so that is taking us above normal for the first time in quite some time. only one day in august was above normal. we're talking upper 70s even at big sur, 80s at los angeles and 74 in northern sierra. 80 in sunnyvale. 86 in los gatos. numbers ranging from the 60s to 80 in menlo park.

we will see the 70s work up through millbrae, downtown 72. it will be comfortable with very light sea breeze but the flow really more out of north, especially with the downsloping winds of 86 in sonoma. with 82 in castro valley. upper 80s for today with about three to four degrees of warming. maybe five to six in some spots. livermore near 90. watsonville, 76 and fog in monterey but that is pulling back and allows for plenty of sun. here is the seven-day forecast, 80s around the bay. low 90s inland and you'll notice those temperatures will be increased about 2-3 degrees each day. until the fog comes back on wednesday. friday, fall begins and next weekend the models are bringing in interesting weather. you'll have to stay tuned. >> last month, the weather seemed kind of lousy.

the right thing. that is what ought to happen here. >> john has been following negotiations closely. he says one holdup to to any settlement could be the insistence by banks they be protected from any future litigation. >> they are starting to pull back from the table so it's hard to say. >> mortgage bankers association and american bankers association declined to comment for this story. it's been widely reported that the banks have offered a settlement of $20 billion. >> we will see what it looks like. >> if a settlement is not reached ko we could be looking at years of litigation and more investigation. the servicers involved bank mergs wells fargo, j.p. morgan chase and citigroup and allied financial. coming up jessica parker's new movie. i don't know how she does it?
