>> alan: president obama leaves seattle tonight in route to the bay area. the stop two on a west coast fundraising trip where he is expected to raise 8 minimum decide -- $8 million. president obama will attend two silicon valley fundraisers tonight and appear at a town hall event in mountain view. we're at moffet field in mountain view where air post -- air force one is expected to touch down shortly. >> security is tight and they ready for the president's arrival. below me you can see 40 or 50 special guests. the president is here to draw from the financial wealth of silicon valley. the president ran late in his visit to seattle and will touch down here at 5:30. president obama has two major fundraising stops here in the bay area.

the first is a reception after 6:00 at the home of john thompson of woodside. 300 people will pay $2,500 to meet the president. that will raise $750,000. then on to the home of facebook ceo sheryl sandberg. there a $35,000 a plate dinner is expected to bring in $2.5 million from 70 guests. he started in seattle where he attended two events there. his whole two-day west coast trip is expected to raise about $8 million. and tomorrow, he'll be at the lincoln center, talking about his jobs bill tomorrow. he is going to be talking to individuals there, trying to make another appeal for the passage of his jobs bill. again, the president is expected here at moffet field at 5:30. everyone is anxious to see him, and he'll be heading from here straight to his fundraising dinners. abc-7 news.

>> alan: the president will hit seven west coast fundraisers in all. two in seattle this morning two this evening here, and he's on to la jolla and los angeles. there's a possible meeting with lady gaga who wants to discuss the seriousness of bullying. the white house, however, is not confirming that meeting. >> the labor dispute at bay area hospitals is heating up. alta bets confirmed a patient died after a medical error made by a replacement nurse. the nurse was hired to fill in during a strike. we're at the hospital with more on that. >> reporter: the death of that patient here at the hospital is intensifying calls by union nurses to let them get back to work. a pair of nurses who say they would have been working at the unit where this patient died, say this is a loss that decide not have to happen.

the nurses say they serve patients in the oncology unit here at the hospital. so they were stunned to hear a patient in their unit died saturday morning. while they were locked out. >> i am truly shocked by this. >> should have never occurred. >> got to this level where a patient lost their life, and it could have been prevented. >> they're members of the california nurses association, the union that's been locked out of the hospitals in the east bay following the one-day walkout on thursday. torres said she showed up for work friday but was turned away. the nurses union is putting the death on the patient squarely on the shoulders of the health care system. >> one more excel that they put profits before their patients. because if they cared about their patients, we wouldn't be standing here in the rain. we would be inside there where we belong.

>> reporter: according to the police, this still unnamed patient died saturday. a replacement nurse allegedly gave that patient a nonprescribed dosage of medication that was lethal. the major crimes unit of the oakland police department is heading up the investigation. >> to have something like that happen is a huge, huge shock to your system. so, of course, after this incident, she is no longer providing medical care at this facility. we're helping care for her, reaching out the patient's family. >> the doctor says he wishes the union nurses didn't walk out in the first place, but center health is confident about the qualifications of the replacement nurses they hired because of the five-day lockout of union nurses. now, some of those locked-out nurses are expected to have a candle light vigil in front of the hospital a little later on this evening in memory of that patient that passed away. they say they want to be able to get back to work immediately, but the hospital says that because they walked out, they

had the contract with replacement nurses for five days, and that means those union nurses will not be able to return to work until tuesday. reporting live in oakland, abc-7 news. >> alan: two uc berkeley hikers reese lead emfrom an irann prison-speaking out today. josh fattal and sharon bauer arrived in new york this morning, on a flight from ohman. they were released on a $1 million bail deal. brokered by the ohmany government. the pair spent two years in jail when the crossed the iran-iraq border. >> sarah, josh and i experienced a taste of the iranian regime's brutality. we've been held in almost total isolation from the world and everything we love, stripped of our rights and freedom. >> it was clear from the very beginning we were hostages. hostage is the most accurate term. because despite certain knowledge of our innocence, the

iranian government has tied our case to its political disputes with the u.s. >> alan: fattal and bauer thanked government leaders and individuals who helped release them, including actor sean penn who lobbied hugo chavez to enter veep. >> the search is on for a hit-and-run driver that killed a 37-year-old man. it happened on highway 101 around 5:30 this morning. chp officers say a red honda civic was hit from bind by a ford pickup truck. after coming to a rest, the civic was hit again by a minivan. the driver of the pickup trupp fled the scene. the suspect vehicle is a 1960s or 70s model tan, full size ford pickup truck and should

have front end damage. >> a second wheelchair bound man has been killed by a hit-and-run driver within the past 48 hours. the man died at the intersection of homestead road and pomeroy avenue this morning. he was dragged 300 feet and pronounced dade at a nearby hospital. police are putting together a description of the suspect's vehicle and believe it has substantial front end damage. on friday night, 52-year-old david cox was killed bay hit-and-run driver. police believe the suspect was driving an older model black lexus. >> aning an airlines flight from maui to oakland made an emergency landing this morning. a canadian goose got caught in an engine and the pilot declared an emergency, then return to oakland international. firefighters were standing by but the flight landed without any incident. >> alan: police are keeping a strong presence following the death of the san jose hells

angels president. jeffrey pettigrew was shot in a casino in sparks, nevada, by a member of a motorcycle gang. pettigrew was well known by law enforcement. two members of the other club were injured in the shootout. police say they're concerned this could result in an all-out war between the two motorcycle gangs. the shootings happened during the annual street vibrations biker festival attended by thousands of bikers from across the country. >> up next, the lost iphone investigation. the next move for police as they attempt to solve the case of an iphone prototype that went missing. it's over. 62-year-old swimmer has ended her attempt to swim from cuba to the florida keys. >> jeff: good evening to you. i'm jeff martinez. mt. tam cam showing clouds but they're beginning to clear out. a few sprinkles in the area. i'll show you live doppler 7 and

pittsburg because of a gas leak. police went door to door to ask residents to leave. pg&e says the gas release was part of a planned maintenance plan, and residents and emergency services were notified yesterday. the police and firefighters were caught by surprise and were expecting the release earlier in the day. >> san francisco police want to look at surveillance tape recorded at a bar where an iphone prototype disappeared. the owner of cava22 said he offered to share the video with investigators. the phone was left at the bar by an apple employee in late july. apple investigators tracked the phone to a nearby's but a man said he had no knowledge of the device. an apple investigators who were allowed inside to search for it could not find anything. apple is expected to announce its fifth generation iphone on october 4th. endurance athlete diana nyad

said she is disappointed and frustrated after being forced to abandon her swim from cuba to florida. the 62-year-old swimmer had to quit, telling reporters the pain from a number of portuguese man of war stings was unspeakable. doctors warned another string could be life-threatening. hit was her second attempt in two months. >> up next, it's barely fall and we have already seen our first showers and our first rain-related rollover accident. jeff martinez coming up in the forecast. >> alan: tonight the chp is encouraging drivers to slow down after slick roads led to a series of weather-related accidents, rollover happened on highway 101. the chp says the driver of this red suv took the curve a bit too fast. officers say that even though today's rain was light, it was just enough to bring up the oil from the roads and create slick patches. so watch out there. jeff martinez is in with our first rein of the fall season. >> jeff: a few sprinkles here and there. didn't totally wash out the sunny day. right now it's beautiful evening shaping up. check this out. the suggest to -- sutro cam. nice pan the left there, and started out the day with lots of clouds and sprinkles and a little bit of drizzle here and there throughout the morning. but right now things clearing out nicely, and hope you enjoyed

your sunday. here's the live doppler 7 in hd. everything moving out to the east. a little cell out here toward the snore -- sonora area. that's it. so temperatures are warming up. with clearing. 70s from concord, antioch, hay werd, 68 degrees. 70 degrees your current temperature, and the weather highlights are like this. clearing out this evening, tomorrow, sunshine returns, beautiful day. and get ready for a warmup by the middle part of the week. talking about mid-90s perhaps in some of the hottest locations. even long the coast could be warming up nicely. closeup satellite, the clouds we had all throughout the day today, finally pushing off to the east. had that area of low pressure just off the north with the cold front. it continues to push off the north and east, and as it does, we'll continue to clear things out nicely overnight. that's just what we have there. the accuweather forecast

overnight, things start to clear out. the marine layer backing off. high pressure builds in through tuesday and wednesday, and theapts when he heat will be on in those areas. your low temperatures tonight in the 50s. most areas, so not too bad out there. 53 in fremont. morgan hill, 55. up toward napa. 51. a few sprinkles up there in the wine country. 75 in santa clara. 77 couper cupertino. so warm up tomorrow. you'll notice a warmup from today. mid-70s. along the coast, look at pacifica with 66 degrees. close to the 70 downtown, south san francisco, 70 degrees. so, again, nice warm conditions. most areas. how about this. 80s through santa rosa and sonoma. and that trend will continue through tuesday and wednesday. in the east bay, 74 in oakland tomorrow, lots of 70s through

fremont, about 75. and how about the 80s tomorrow. lots of them. 82 in livermore, by tuesday and wednesday, going to be in the lower 9 sores -- 90s, so the reed will return in the east. monterey bay, maybe some patchy fog in the morning. that should quickly burn off. temperatures in the 60s and 70s up towards santa cruz. gilroy, 82. beautiful accuweather seven-day forecast. tuesday and wednesday, the hottest days, wednesday, 92 inland, then we start to cool off as we head into the weekend, and we may be seeing some changes by this time next weekend. we're still working on it with all the computer models. the storm system might be coming in. so stay tuned, but looking good for this week. >> alan: rick is in for shu today. bay area nfl fans smelling

with the 13-8 victory. >> the jets and their colorful coach rex ryan were in oakland. the silver and black scored on their first position. mcfadden would have a huge day with 171-yards rushing. new york tied the contest and took the lead when tomlinson scores on an 18-yard pass from sanchez. it was 17-# before oakland got another big play from mcfadden. he makes the move and is gone down the sidelines, 70 yards for a touchdown. janikowski ended with a field goal to make it 17-17 at the half. the raiders got tricky in the third with the double reverse, and moore dives in for the touchdown. oakland by seven. after the jets fumble the kickoff, michael bush walks in for the score. the raiders come away with a big 34-24 win over the jets. they're now 2-1. >> with their postseason chances now officially over, the giants wrapped up their series with arizona this afternoon.

this kid doesn't care about the playoffs. he got a baseball. tim lincecum, just didn't have his stuff today in the first, montero doubles home a couple of runs. lincecum is now 13-14. bruce bochy got tossed arguing a call. the as a's put a dent in the rangers chances. wall den air mails a throw. oakland would score four runs in the ninth and win 6-5, so the angels are now 2-1/2 back in the wild card with just three games to play. >> tonight at 6:00 we have a fantastic finish in golf and you hear from the oakland raiders. >> alan: an old tradition comes to an enin spain. powerful northwest region of catalunya, the people are celebrating the last bull fight.
