"occupy" santa rosa to set up tents on the lawn. the city manager said it was a decision to alleviate unnecessary conflicts. >> best to avoid a so-called show down that was not in anybody's interests. >> reporter: for city leaders this raises the usual concern about cleanliness and safety. they required the group to have a port apoty on sight, and this is an effort at working with the group avoid anything close to the flareup witnessed last week in oakland. during the next city council meeting they'll decide how to officially handle the "occupy" group and their tent because at the moment they're on the lawn without a permit, and plan to be there indefinitely. >> comes down to unlawful assembly on public property. anybody community should be okay with the gathering. it's the maintenance of safety

volunteer medical group providing free health care wants its supplies, including medical marijuana, back from the police or else. the group says it with occupy mayor jean quan's office tomorrow at noon unless supplyes seeded during the raid are returned. >> the "occupy" san francisco group developed its own security keep. ten peacekeepers are making sure the tent city is safe, clean, and drug-fremont they wear arm bands to be easily identified by protesters and the police. they're trying to make the area more family friendly. >> nationwide this weekend, "occupy" protesters clashed with police. most notably in austin, denver and portland. in portland demonstrators were arrested after refewing of -- refusing to leave a park. 49 arrests in austin when protesters tried to protect tables of food. there's a ban on tables after

10:00 p.m. the second clash came after officers cleared out an. a by theater, and denver police used pepper spray on demonstrators in the capitol. it's illegal to protest inside the building. there were seven arrests. >> in the south bay, monterey surfer is improving after surviving a serious shark attack. the bike parts indicate the culprit was likely a great white shark. here's the latest from monterey. >> in yet another clash between sharks and surfers, a california man was within a few feet of a shark attacking his friend. >> down on top of the wave, saw him screaming shark, shark, shark. i didn't know what was going on. >> brandon mcgiven was surfing with his friend, eric tarantino, 150 yards offshore, when a shark snuck up and attacked eric. bleeding and in harm's way, eric paddled for show.

brandon swam ahead to get help. >> i looked over and i saw quite a bit of blood coming out his arm, and going into the water around him. >> amazingly, eric managed to get himself out of the water. other surfers forced him to the ground and tried to stop the bleeding with towels. he had gashes in his arm and his neck. with a narrow miss to his jugular artery. still conscious, eric was starting to slip into shock. >> a lot of people around just trying to keep him calm. tell can him it was going to be okay. >> he was airlifted to san francisco medical center. his friends stunned, and his board left with a 19-inch chunk removed. >> i have been surfing there for 15 years. i do have a friend who was attacked there four years ago. >> it's been a bad year for sharks. with sightings up and down the west coast. putting beach-goers on edge. in oregon, one man was thrown from his board after a shark took a huge bite. and last week, george wainwright

lost his life to a ten-foot-long gray white? australia. these attacks leave surfers wondering, it could happen to them? >> it could have been any one of us. >> officials at the beach have posted signs warning of the attack and urging people stay out of the water. >> yosemite park officials are asking for help in their third attempt to improve public access to the park and protect the ecosystem. park officials are trying to draw up a master plan. some say it could radically alter facilities, parking, and recreation, and possibly set limits on the number of visitors, park officials are asking the public to weigh in on everything from ping nick area placement to trail access. and i will have a series of meetings, including one in san francisco on november 9th.

>> effects of a freak snowstorm on the east coast are expected to linger until mid-leak. the storms left three dead and three million people without power. >> reporter: scraping snow off your windshield is not a familiar sight for most in october. an unexpected sonoma pushed through the northeast saturday. the whiteout brought more than one foot of snow in the areas and governors of four states issued emergency declarations. some travels like these passengers on a train from new york to boston were stranded for hours. other families were stranded in their home up toes. >> a lot of trees coming down, branches breaking, powerlines disrupted. >> reporter: after knocking out power to millions in the northeast. the storm made its exit sunday. emergency crews are working to repair downed power lines and trees which could take a while. >> i'd say probably wednesday. we got a lot of crews coming in from other areas. >> reporter: some residents

the unmanned capsule blast off this morning after a failed launch in august. this is the only link to the station after nasa retired the space shuttle fleet in july. >> in kansas tonight, they're suspending recovery efforts for three workers killed in a huge grain el visit -- elevator explosion. in all, six people were killed. workers were loading a train with corn when the elevator blew up. investigators say it was likely caused by grain dust. the recovery effort was suspended after concerns the entire grain elevator might collapse. >> microsoft ceo bill gates talked about his work relationship with steve jobs who had previously spoken harshly about gates, claiming he ripped off other people's ideas and calling him unimaginative. gates says, no hard feelings. >> he faced several times the fact their products were so premium priced they literally

it has been -- isn't that pretty. a great weekend. temperatures 70s and 80s. a nice shot from the bay bridge cam, looking west toward berkeley and oakland. here's highs for today. mainly clear skies across the bay area. 82 was the high in ucould ia. santa rosa, 82. 77 in novato. 73 in san francisco. and we touched on 80 for antioch and livermore. tonight we'll look for low clouds to move just near the coast. already starting to see that right near half moon bay. current temperature there 69. still 71 degrees right now in santa rosa, and antioch mild at 76. our highlights, big changes as we head through the work week. we will look for the coastal fog to return overnight, patchy at best. a slightly cooler day for monday, but dry for trick-or-treaters tomorrow

night, and then an offshore wind component and that's going to prompt some fire weather concerns tuesday and wednesday. lows tonight, a little fog that creeps in near the coast in the upper 40s to low 50s, with san francisco, 54, and napa, 45 degrees. high pressure bringing us a delightful weekend. starts to weaken a bit tomorrow. temperatures coming down a few degrees. we'll keep it dry but we'll keep a close eye on the low pressure here. it's going to position itself to the east of the bay area, and the wrap-around counterclockwise flow is going to bring the return of the offshore winds and that's going to mean dryer air mass, and the potential for high fire danger for the bay area. so fire weather watch has been posted for the north bay. even the east bay hills with gusts to 40 miles-per-hour, and that's going dry the air out, low humidities, and that sets the stage for tuesday through
