his firefighting family from calfire. >> this hurts the entire fire community and family. we all band together, it's a brotherhood, whether it's police, fire, first responders, and this is a tragic event. it's horrible. >> early thanksgiving morning, bartal was involved in a fight at this fast food restaurant on geary boulevard. bought men were separated and bartal walked to this gas station. police say the suspect got into this car, drove to the gas station, and then plowed into bartal. police grabbed surveillance video from the cameras around the business and released photos taken of the suspect they believe got into the fight with bartal and later ran him down at the gas station. today an employee told us what he heard from a coworker who was on duty thursday morning. >> he see somebody hit the guy. and then drop over there with me blood and ran away.

>> bartal spent four years in the marines, serving in iraq, few weeks ago he wrapped up his fifth year at a seasonal firefighter with calfire. >> i've been in this business for many years, and some things you just can't answer. the important thing to know is that al has great support from some of the best surgeons and doctors and nurses here. we're profoundly amazed at their skills and how hard they have been working and continue to work on our friend. >> tomorrow the family is expected to meet with neurosurgeons. police are asking if you recognize the suspect in the photo to give police a call or to text them. at this point the charges would be attempted murder and assault. also, family members and supporters are in the process of setting up a facebook page for the man and also for the firefighter, and also a charity bank account before his family sometime tomorrow.

>> a carbon monoxide warning tonight as temperatures cool down. a heyward family rushed to the emergency room. >> that happened this morning as after the turned on their heater for the first time this season. we're live in heyward with the details. >> firefighters here from station one in hayward responded to an emergency call from kaiser hospital this morning. they were told to respond to a home where family narrowly escaped death because of faulty wall heater. three of the people who live here were taken to the hospital. one woman told me she, her daughter, and her six-month-old grandchild were treated for carbon monoxide copies because of a fault request gas wall heater. she woke up dizzy, headache, ringing in her ears and nauseous. the fire captain believe they narrowly escaped death. >> carbon monoxide takes

approximately 500 fatilities in the country. over 20,000 people end up in emergency rooms with feeling nauseous, fatigue, and dizziness. so this morning this was a very good thing that the people got out of the house, went to the hospital. they could have succumbed to death rapidly and it's a good thing they got out alive. >> reporter: this is what could have warned the family that carbon monoxide levels were dangerously high. this is an alarm, available at hard wear stores. the the family now has a functioning one in the home. by law every home is supposed to have one installed. that law took effect july 1st. this is a carbon monoxide alarm. costs anywhere from 20 to $40, and captain paulsen says their seepingal because carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless, and now with cold weather coming in and people turning on the wall heaters and fire place, these become very essential in the home.

reporting live, abc-7 news. >> worthwhile investment. >> overceekd french fries are being braimed for a fire in a cupertino paper complex. the blaze destroyed eight units and damaged 15 units. 60 people were force from their homes at 6:00 p.m. one of the residents september this home video to us. up to 100 firefighters took almost two hours to bring the fire under control damage to the building is estimated at $2 million. >> in berkeley, an apartment building in danger of collapsing is scheduled to be torn down tomorrow. the demolition comes den -- ten days after the building was gutted by fire. no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> alan: violence has been an ongoing concern around walnut creek's bar scene, and today police made two arrests after a chaotic night.

officers responded to a fight, and an hour earlier police found a man bleeding from the head of north main street. a man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. police arrested 21-year-old steven@wyatt for assault in connection with the fight outside the vice lounge. >> some members of occupy sf-back at the federal reserve building and this time they're across the cincinnati front of a wells fargo bank because of fencing around the federal reserve building. they set up an information table and police said they can stay the as long as they don't put up tents. >> hopefully we can keep this spot and inform the masses that pass by on the sidewalks. >> demonstrate you'res say if they're kicked out they're going to continue down the street. many others remain at the orange encampment. >> despite a fast approaching

deadline, "occupy" l.a. protesters say they're not going system authorities say they won't be sweeping through right at the deadline tonight but they do expect to make arrests. the encampment was abuzz with activity yesterday but most aimed at how to deal with authorities come the midnight deadline. >> alan: angry about clampdowns on "occupy" camps, students are planning demonstrations tomorrow. at uc davis students are planning a protest. this youtube video of police dousing protesters with pepper spray sparked national outrain. student protesters are calling for a general strike tomorrow. this is on the same day the board of regents is scheduled to discussion police action and address funding issues. the rents will hold a conference from four uc campuses tomorrow. mission bay, merced, and ucla, the public comment portion is

after an egyptian court ordered their release. eric sweeney, gregory porter and luke gates were studying at american university in cairo for the semester when something went terribly wrong. >> there was tear gas everywhere, and we were -- they were shooting bullets. then they said they were taking us to a safe play. we were hit a bunch. >> they were accused of throwing molotov cocktails as protests swept the square. >> that was the scariest moment in my life when i was in that room. i did faint. i don't know if it was before or after this picture was taken. they didn't have any evidence connecting us with any crime. >> the students say they went near the demonstrations to see politics in action. >> looking back, i have no regret i went to the protest.

the fog is already starting to thicken up out there. fairfield, less than a mile visible there. about a half a mile as you see there concord, less than a mile as well. so things are starting to thicken up around the bay area, sfo, seven miles visible, hayward. four miles. temperatures right now, 49 in concord. 48 in antioch, 55 in san francisco, oakland, and los gatos, 54. napa, a little light fog at 51. here is a look at highlights to the mid-part of the work week, passing high clouds overnight, valley fog, reducing visibility. partly cloudy skies, and afternoon sunshine for us, for at least the next few days, and then as the high starts to position itself over the bay area tuesday night and wednesday, the strong northeasterly winds will pick up and definitely going to make for some very windy conditions

around the bay area, especially above the 1,000-foot level. lows tonight with the fog creeping back in, generally in the 40s. 57 for san francisco. san jose, 44. and we look for 40 for livermore. here's the setup. high pressure still blocking storms to the north. so we look for a mixture of sun and cloud. high clouds will venture over the bay area, and this will stay with us through about mid-week, and at that point also as the high starts to really buildy, that's when we get to the offshore winds and windy conditions tuesday night and wednesday. here's a look at your highs tomorrow. we're banking on a little bit more sunshine. so temperatures come up a fewer more degrees. 63 half moon bay. overcast except for palo alto, hazy afternoon sunshine. north bay, morning fog, ruiz ode visibility. keep that in mind.
