right now emergency crews are trying to contain a diesel spill on the campus of uc berkeley. >> some 1700 gallons spilled and that's posing a threat to the environment. we're at the scene and i understand some of the diesel has already spilled into he bay. >> reporter: that's right. i'm actually right here where some of the booms are set up. one of the yellow barriers. one of those absorbent booms they set up. i'm at berkeley marina. this is basically where strawberry creek meets san francisco bay, and a lot of the diesel is caked on to this absorbent material was spilled eight miles upstream on the campus of uc berkeley.

>> jars of absorbent booms corral diesel fuel and debris, the last barriers preventing more petroleum frock seeping into san francisco bay. >> the agencies are saying it's a small fraction has made its way 0 into the bay. >> a fuel spill first noticed 7:00 p.m. saturday night by a uc campus police officer who came across a foul smell along strawberry creek. the goopy diesel was seeping through the water. upstream in the basele of stanley hall is the source of the spill. >> 1700 gallons of diesel spilled within the building and a smaller amount, a fraction of that, was released to the creek, strawberry creek. >> crews quickly started siphoning the fuel from the basement with large bumping trucks. this emergency was caused bay malfunction with the fuel for

the generator. the building has a series of pumps that remove natural water that collects in the basement. 100 students were evacuated from the building. a few were disappointed that stanley hall remains closed. >> i use saturday. >> he says he has to postpone his biology experiment in one of the labs in stanley hall until it re-opens. officials hope to have it back online for students by the morning. >> as far as environmental concerns, they're still trying to determine the extent of any environmental concerns. i can tell you this particular area is a pretty popular spot for birds, and also fish in strawberry creek. they're trying to make assessments and determine exactly how much this diesel has affected that wildlife. reporting live in berkeley, abc-7 news. >> "occupy" oakland's plan to shut down the city port tomorrow

is facing mounting opposition, including a disscent from the "occupy" movement itself. "occupy" oakland is planning a repeat of the shutdown. demonstrators say port workers deserve better treatment. they plan to meet at the station and begin marching to the port at 5:30 a.m. they claim to have broad support. >> we just got here last night from "occupy" lake merritt, to get people thinking about the sport shutdown tomorrow. >> the occupier does not have the support of the union, and the con rel chronicle reports some think it will be too confrontational and detract from the intentions. truckers say they stand to lose $700 tomorrow. >> and oakland mayor jean quan's office released an open letter to "occupy" protesters, reading,

how does shutting down the port and caution thousands of workers to lose pay create positive change? she is urging protesters to keep the port open. >> propesters promoted the shutdown. a handful of activists set sail. they're calling it occupation. there's no "occupy" encampment in oakland. no word how long the group plans to stay afloat. >> 55 protesters were arrested this morning. >> they were surrounded before we knew it was coming, and they arrest ode -- arrested us one by one and released us in an hour or two and we have come back to reclaim it. >> after police released them. several protesters came back and

100 officers moved them out and closed down market street and brought in public works crews to clear out the belongings. they face charges of illegal lodging. >> 27 people are in temporary housing after an apartment fire in san francisco. it happened at 5:30 yesterday as a public housing building on ellis street where many of the residents are elderly or disabled. firefighters used ladders to rescue several people from the building. many residents say they didn't hear a fire alarm. the housing authority says the alarm system was working properly, and the alarm didn't sound on all floors because the fire was restricted to one floor. >> had a fire here. first time there was a fire alarm. this time we didn't. i don't know what's going on. >> seven people were treated and released for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. one man who was burned remains in the hospital. officials say the fire started in his unit when grease caught on fire as he was preparing dinner. >> investigators are looking

the circulation around the low is counterclockwise, and this moisture is feeding up and then going back towards the west. so, that's why we will keep a chance of some sprinkles, maybe light showers in the forecast overnight tonight and possibly in through tomorrow. here's the current readings, 48 in napa, novato, 49. san francisco, dense overcast. fremont, 50. 50 in mountain view and san jose, 5. the highlights for next few days, valley fog. it will be dense, especially in the north and east bay locations. a few sprinkles, maybe a light shower south of san jose tonight. we'll keep it in your forecast as well. tomorrow, the rest of us break out to partly sunny conditions by tomorrow afternoon and then get ready for more of a dry weather pattern right through mid-week. >> this is the low. it is a cutoff low and is just sitting along the coast and spinning. looks like it will start to make a move overnight tonight.

and really just a few sprinkles possible here towards the san francisco bay area. but really this low is tracking into southern california and that's when the rain is going intensify there. so keep that in mind if travel takes you in that direction tomorrow. here's our animation. you can see -- there it goes right into southern california. we may sew a little -- may see a little wrap-around moisture. this is 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. a chance of maybe a light shower or a sprinkle in the south bay through tomorrow late day. traveling across the state? north of big bear, looks terrific. big sur, 56. sunshine, sacramento, 58. tahoe, 37. as you head towards southern california, los angeles, san diego, palm springs, expect rain and it could be heavy at times. lows across the bay area, cold els in the north bay. watch out for the fog and maybe frost. 40s elsewhere, and highs will go uniform.

mid-to-upper 50s. more sunshine in the north bay than the south bay, where in higher elevations where we can possibly see a sprinkle, maybe a light shower late tomorrow afternoon. the accuweather seven-day forecast, after this system moves out of here, we will start to dry up, a dry few days after a cold start tuesday morning, and the next chance of showers, thursday night, early friday. >> shu, not the best day for the bay area football teams. >> mike: not at all. a bunch of losers! the raiders came out flat last week. make that two weeks a row in green bay. the 49ers struggled in the red zone again and got ambushed by the cardinals. wow.
