good morning, thanks for joining thus morning. happy new year. san francisco police are still investigating the case of a stolen monkey that was returned to the zoo yesterday. here is the picture of banana sam safe in it's keeper's arms. it was taken from the zoo thursday night. zoo officials say someone cut through a gate and climbed on the roof and broke into the squirrel monkey habitat. a man said he found the monkey in stern grove two miles from the zoo. he seems okay but they doubt the story how he was found. >> he looks pretty good. he was thirgs at this and hungry but we did a quick exam on him. >> is it easy to coax a monkey in a backpack? >> i would venture to say it's not. it would be placed in a backpack

forcibly. >> the investigation remains open. so far the man has not tried to claim the $5,000 reward. banana sam won't object display for a while. they want to make sure he is okay. in the bay area at least one driving fatality is being reported this morning in sonoma county. the driver of a pickup truck hit a guardrail on highway 116 in guerneville about 3:00 this morning. his truck tumbled down an embankment. the man died at the scene. fire officials say there was strong odor of alcohol in the truck's cab. >> a suspected drunk driver hit a 15-year-old pedestrian who was in a crosswalk in petaluma. it happened on east washington just after 12:30 this morning. young victim was taken to the hospital with major injuries but is said to be stable. the driver has been identified as 20-year-old wesley pickford of novato.

he admitted to drinking. his blood alcohol was.15%. there are growing knerns oakland after the death. they were killed outside the parents' food truck blocks from where another little boy was khirld killed. >> reporter: he was five years old and was helping his father. witnesses say someone in line outside fired shots into the vehicle helped gabrielle into the chest. the boy's father reacted to the shooting. >> he had blood on the hands. he said i got my kid got shot. he has a gun. >> the gunman is described as a black man in his 20, six foot paurl tall, 150 pounds with a female companion who was wearing a red jacket.

third child to die of gunfire since august. this gang shootout captured on a security camera resulted in the death of 23 month old december 9th. a small crowd gathered at 55th and international leaving toys and teddy bears. his families formed the candles into a cross. >> it hurts because i worked with guy one day only in the restaurant. he is really a good guy. >> reporter: police chief howard jordan he talked with the family was a sad and difficult one? >> i couldn't imagine what they are going through. i have kids myself. you're not supposed to outlive your kids. >> the memorial at catholic church commemorates to those that lost to violence each year. this year, the count is 110.

and a half. luckily the four people who live there were not hurt. no word yet on what caused that fire. fire and police officials in los angeles have just wrapped up a news conference in their effort to find whoever is setting cars on fire in the city. they have not identified any suspects and they are asking for the public's help. at least six more car fires were reported last night. it's the worst wave of arson in the city since the 1992 riots. chaos overnight as firefighters battle more suspected arsons in los angeles, adding to the total of 40 arsons in and around hollywood in just three nights. >> it's while people were sleeping and that is the scary part. >> 13 fires set ablaze in two hours early saturday morning. most of them in north hollywood. luckily no one was injured. investigators calling this work

nationwide some 40,000 new state laws take effect today. in california, several of them involve driving and parking. starting today, drivers convicted of three or more indictments can have their driver's license suspended for ten years. child safety seat law will require to be used to a child of eight and. >> another new law in san jose, a ban on plastic bags. paper bags with recycled content will be handed out only by restaurants, nonprofits and social organizations.

concord and hayward this morning. in terms of our 24-hour temperature change from this morning to yesterday morning, most areas are warmer. look at napa, east wind, mountain view, a little warmer, hayward in and san jose about the same. we will be looking at warmer afternoon. fog lifts quickly and high pressure put a lid on the atmosphere atmosphere. weak system comes down from the north and provide increasing clouds, cooler temperatures and onshore push and sprinkles for napa and sonoma. that is all we're going to see about it. this has been the deal, warmer days in the afternoon. cooler nights. it's really all taking us to average highs throughout the month, but you know for all locations around the bay, about the second or third driest december on record. for everyone today the hazy conditions. as you take a look at the satellite picture you can see the clouds bump into the ridge

nine hours and 36 minutes of daylight. sunrise a little later. sunset a little later each day by a minute or so. finally roof camera looking at clear skies and all night long, san francisco has had mild temperatures. you could call it balmy downtown. 60 pretty much all night long. gusty winds at our coast. east winds working from warmer air from napa to livermore with mid 40s and 50 there. we do have a fog and foggy spots delta, it is chilly in santa rosa at 36 degrees. later on today, santa rosa will be one of the warmest places, redwood city a little cool at 38. would you expect that in january right? around the bay, visibility is pretty good except for novato and fairfield but we will look for a wind shift tomorrow. today numbers are much warmer as much as 7-89 degrees warmer in the north bay. in the south bay a couple

degrees warmer for the most part. we are looking at breezy weather over the hills. easterly winds have brought the warmer air surface and tule fog. today we're looking at spare the air today and on an onshore push comes our first weak weather system of the week that will provide chance of showers, napa and sonoma county. setup today is for a lid on high pressure to press down on the atmosphere keeping the pollutants at the surface to create hazy conditions and poor air quality. so we will be looking at high pressure to stay with us for the most part for the earn tire week. today is the strongest and winds are bringing the air from the delta. we are looking at once again the jetstream, storm track well to the north. the only changes we're going to see is for a couple weak systems to knock this high down a little
