harassment. here is an i-team investigation. >> one time two times three times. >> the phone calls is seemed to never stop for carol. >> now i am sick and tired of them calling. >> since september she has been getting calls from strangers telling her she won the lottery. all she had to do was claim the prize go to the store and load money on green pack money cards. she did. putting a total of $300 on the cards. >> i scratched the numbers off of it and later on that night i'm going to call and see if the money is still there. they told me there is no money there. >> no money left on the green dot money packs and no lottery winnings. >> i'm practically in tears. they took the last bit of money i had. i told them it was the last money i had.

my husband just died. >> her husband died of cancer days before the calls begin '. without his income she had had little money and was being forced to move. >> i was happy. i thought the lord came down and blessed me. >> rhonda ryan has been getting the calls, too. >> i was official winner for september of a five million dollar prize. >> she just had to follow orders. >> she instructed me to go to cvs and purchase $3500 a green dpot card. >> ryan didn't get the card but she does have these. recordings of a man calling himself mr. white outlining the scam. >> i'm mr. white.

if you do this pay $400 to $500 you'll be the winner. >> on one recording he claims to be headed to her house. >> i'm mr. white. >> i wonder where my safety lies and how far this will go. >> numbers have a jamaica air code. one law official there the lottery scams will bring $300 million into the country by end of the year. she says something has to be done before there are more victims. >> i think the government ought to step in and find out what is going on in jamaica that they are taking so many people's money over here.

>> it's fraud perpetrated against u.s. citizen. >> agent in charge says the lottery scams are hard to bust outside the united states. >> when you are dealing with a foreign government potentially or pursuing a foreign citizen in a case like this it's particularly difficult because you don't have as much control as you would in the united states. >> many times it's up to the foreign governments to crack down. like a recent raid in jamaica that netted over 30 arrests cash and numerous cellphones. theyon what they uncovered. secret service is now investigating. in the meantime we decided to call mr. white. >> we have several people in the bay area who say that you called them to tell them that they won the lottery. aren't you just really taking people's money.

the street with private information on a name tag but that could happen. michael finney shows us an experiment that is raising red flags. >> most can go out in public and remain unrecognized but facial recognition systems may soon allow strangers to snap a picture and instantly learn your name date of birth where you were born and maybe even your social security number. >> i think that facial recognition is here to say. >> already, facebook and google are using some forms of it. facebook tagged suggestions identifies people in photos as they are uploaded. in this google video demonstrates how owners of galaxy nexus can point their phone by pointing to their own face. sandra is an associate professor

at carnegie mellon in pittsburgh he and his fellow researchers have developed and application he says can determine the name and other personal information of a stranger with fairly good accuracy. we caught up with him in boston. he took pictures of three test subjects. they were uploaded to the app and the app sit out information about each of them. >> that is my date of birds. that is state of birth. >> they determined the information for paul. >> i'm pretty impressed. it's also weird. it's kind of scary. >> how is how it works. they come pair points on someone's face eyes nose and lips with the database.

they search public works for other information. >> you absolutely have no control over this. one of the reasons you think this snt picture isn't tagged there is no way it can come back to me but it can. >> they had less luck on social security numbers. but in the past the app has had a success rate of 27% in predicts go the first five digits of their social security number. now that is significant because the remaining four digits are often publicly available. on the third test subjected the app correctly determined the name and state where lisa grew up. that was enough to make her concerned about stalkers. >> i wouldn't have been afraid

of that before but i am a little now. >> he hasn't released it to the public but developed it it could prove it could be done. they predicts they will be widely available in just 5-15 years. f.b.i. confirms that facial recognition system is in a pilot program and will be rolled out on a limited basis next year. >> the big risk there is a chance that people go end up in the database and they have no association with crime at all. >> google has the ability to identify images uploaded on to its website. could facial recognition be next? >> figuring out a way the ways that could be done that wouldn't violate users' privacy. >> what sounded like science fiction is now available. >> capitol hill is taking recognition senator a senator

his sister was badly wounded by shrapnel. >> so i lost my leg. and my sister is blind. >> it sounds like it was so scary. >> yes. i heard screaming. i didn't know what to do. to go to stay? >> they were yelling, are you okay? are you okay? >> their little brother wasn't hurt but was traumatized. >> i want land mines gone. >> they came bike abc7 tuesday as soon as they goff on the

plane from israel to tell their story. they are being documented by an israeli media company. there may be a million land mines in israel. he met terry white and heidi kim with roots of peace organization. they formed a pact to raise awareness. heidi and jerry and along with the state department took a bus load of legislators to see the mine fields. roots of peace raises money to remove land mines in war-torn countries. >> daniel and his sister even talked with the prime minister benjamin netanyahu. eventual approved approved to begin to clear those land mines. >> we need to get the money to

aviation history was recently made two major airlines put biofuel into the tanks and major breakthrough for a bay area man. david louie reports. >> solar solar dyne has the goal of producing renewable fuel. now, it has opened a large scale market. this united 737 is leaving houston's airport as the first commercial jet to be operatedend a blend of jet fuel. >> to see something come out of the lab and scaled up and actually see it in a commercial application is really quite gratifying. >> they were powered 40% biofuel 60% jet fuel mix. they have a signed contract to supply united 20 million gallons of biofuel. that is 1% of the fuel

production but ramping up for large scale production. >> we are designing plants so they will be operational by the end of 2013. we're going to have those plants multiple plants all over the globe. >> it has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 80%. it will depend on oil prices. jet fuel costs 3.11. they expect biofuel will be 3.44. skairlines airlines is launching a similar process. ska >> ska airlines say they have bought enough to fuel 75 planes over the next two or three weeks. >> airports are embracing the move to biofuel. >> they are in the business of burning fuel to move you from here to there. the more efficient they can do it the better off we all our. >> the choice of houston for

outreach. >> there are 430 military vets on this campus and san francisco state with a long history of anti-war sentiment is welcoming the warriors with open arms. >> this university 6s students has been named as one of nation's top military friendly schools. they get priority in registration. there are career counseling and key component the veterans center which is celebrating the one-year anniversary. it's a one-stop shop run by a former marine. >> its support team, financial aid, they can come to me when they have a problem and i have my contacts while they are sitting there to resolve some of the issues. >> if i had to wait in line and talk to somebody and they would

say can you just call the v.a. i probably wouldn't have enrolled. >> he is pursuing a degree in film. last this time last year he was in afghanistan using to his instruments to record dangerous mission. >> it's such a existence existence when you are deployed in a combat zone. you come home and everybody biggest complaint is something else. >> their challenges are different. one suffered a traumatic brain injury during combat and now uses special equipment to help him with the studies. >> it has a camera right here. >> resources like that are invaluable. so is the veterans club on campus which organizes social events and offers emotional su >> coming from a world where you are based you have a team, a squad, a platoon or company.
