ceremony was held. >> reporter: his wife joined him for the ceremony and she went with him to a news availability that he spoke with reporters after the swearing-in ceremony. she stood by his side. this is an investigation that continues even as he takes off. >> a newly elected sheriff, ross mirkarimi. >> i hold this office of the sheriff. >> congratulations. [applause] >> but the new sheriff himself acknowledged the cloud of uncertainty that hangs over the event as a domestic violence investigation continues. during the inauguration of mayoredley next door at city hall, we talked with the police chief. >> we treat all the cases the same. we take domestic violence in san francisco very, very seriously, and we put the investigation as complete as we could make, and now it's presented to the district attorney.

>> this is an investigation that was launched last week according to court documents, his neighbor called san francisco police to report a new year's eve incident between the new sheriff and his wife. reporting -- according to the documents his wife said he grabbed an arm during an argument and bruised it. madison said she took pictures of. >> i think if we deal like it like any other case that is similarly situated, policies will step to the side. we have an law enforcement official and that adds complexity. >> dean johnson says the district attorney's office has latitude about possible charges. >> it's clearly not the most violent type of domestic violence case, and it's also pretty clearly in that range from felony to misdemeanor. this one pretty clearly involves the misdemeanor range.

willie brown was master of ceremonies. senator dianne feinstein administered the oath of office and all 11 living former mayors of san francisco were at the inauguration. >> whether you voted for me first, second, third, or not at all, i want to thank all the people of the city for giving me this historic opportunity to serve as your elected mayor. >> lee is the first elect it asian-american to serve as the city's mayor. he was interim mayor for a year when gaven newsom left to be lieutenant governor. >> in another news two san francisco firefighters, including a division chief were taken to the hospital after their vehicle crashed. the two firefighters were transported to san francisco general. everyone injured is expected to

recover. >> firefighters made quick work of an apartment fire this morning at a building on noe and 17th street. the one, apartment fire was contained in three minutes. investigators are looking into the cause. >> novato police and firefighters are looking for one or more arsonist who set fires. it started with a dumpster fire. that was followed by grass fires on the hillsides nearby. one burned right up to a home but there was no serious property damage and no injuries. >> we probably have a good idea these are juveniles. we don't know for shiewrks but that's the direction we're leaning. we have an investigation in progress,. >> novato police are investigating and asking anyone with information to give them a call. >> bar fights are becoming a growing problem in walnut creek,

especially after a police officer was punched in the face during an overnight street brawl. the officer was punched while trying to break up a fight between two men. a 27-year-old was tasered after police say he punched the officer in the face. shortly after that police say a crowd began fighting and pushing the officers while trying protect kelly. they arrested 17 people. >> a 90-year-old marin county man recovering after being wounded during a shootout with an intruder is having trouble breathing and is heavily sedated. he shot the burglary suspect three times after the man broke into his home. the suspect also had a gun and shot the man in his cheek himself sister tells us it has been, quote, touch and go. he is now on a ventilator and doctors may have to perform a tracheotomy. he is a world war ii vet and a former law enforcement agent, and friends say he is tough enough to pull through.

>> a proposed 49ers stadium hasn't been the approved yet but the seed allocation process started today. they can get 49ers seats for the lifetime of the stadium. there are 9,000 club seats available, ranging from 20,000 to $30,000. exclusive seats are $8,000 and individual game tickets are priced at 325 to $357. opponents of the stadium are petitioning to reject the contract which will be voted on this tuesday. protesters are afraid the city will go bust trying to pay for the tide annual. >> republican candidates for president met today. primary voters go to the polls on tuesday where they're expected to give mitt romney a second-straight win following his win in iowa.

here's a report from new hampshire that romney's rivals did little to break his stride. >> on the campaign trail in new hampshire, mitt romney's only jobs were aimed at president barack obama. >> the president made it harder for this economy to reboot. he did not cause this recession. he just made it worse. >> romney has a comfortable lead. 24 points in one poll, and his republican opponents are starting to south frustrated. >> doesn't mind anything to you because your the front runner. >> the republican field had two chances in 12 hours to get in their shots at romney. last night they largely pulled their punches. as this morning's debate that it came our swinging. >> can we drop the pious baloney. the fact is you ran in '94 and lost. that's why you weren't in the senator with rick santorum. >> rick santorum blasted romney as a massachusetts lib liberal.

>> after five years of legal ranching a estimation nation lawsuit against richmond's police chief is set for trial tomorrow. seven african-americans claim they were subjects of racist remarks from the chief and claim they were denied promotion because they're black. the officers are asking for back pay and punitive damages based on promotions they would have had. the chief is denying any wrongdoing. >> richmond's first african-american mayor is being remembered as a people's politician. the contra costa county times reports george livingston died saturday morning. he was 78 years old. he was first elected to richmond city council in 1952 and searved total of four terms and was appointed as mayor in 1985 and ran for the office in 1989. he is remember by many as a uniter who had an ability to rally people behind a cause. >> it has been exactly one year

coast guard's only operating arctic icebreaker is escorting a russian tanker on a fuel run. their mission is to deliver 1.1 million gallons of diesel fuel and 300,000 gallons of gas to gnome, alaska, which is ice-locked. the coast guard cutter is cutting a path for the tanker. the two ships will arrive at nome by tomorrow. the first time fuel has been delivered through ice-covered waters into an alaskan community. >> woman lived through a 300-foot fall when her bungie court snapped on the zimbabwe zambia border. she bungee jumped from a bridge, and the cord snapped and she plunged into the icy river. her feet were still tied, as she maneuvered through the rapids. >> i was first pulled out of the water, they put me on the back

they'll keep us a little warmer overnight tonight. and some locations in the 30s in the north bay, possibility of frost. 45 in san francisco. livermore, 34. 37 san jose, and santa cruz. now, let's talk about this upcoming -- at least the first few days. high pressure has been with us. this cold front here is just not going to be strong enough to break through this blocking high for tomorrow so the dry pattern will be with us throughout the day on monday. temperatures may cool one or two degrees. we're going to keep a close eye on this low and it's poised -- the forecast models are correct, the wrap-around circulation around the low could cause a possibility of a sprinkle or light shower, mainly near the coastal range, heading into tuesday. these models don't know what to do, it's been to dry the past
