>> carolyn: good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. this morning the music world is mourning the loss of whitney houston. tonight's grammy celebration will honor her incredible talent. she was pronounced dead at 3:55 yesterday afternoon in her hotel room. he she was staying at beverly hilton that was scheduled to perform at a pre-grammy party. she was found unresponsive. the cause of death is still under investigation. tmz reports that the body was found in the bathtub. they have recovered prescription

drugs. tmz said it was xanax and may have led to her falling asleep in the tub. guests heard too booms and a loud male voice about 20 minutes before she was pronounced dead. >> when officers arrived in the hotel room on the fourth floor, hotel security were already attempting to resuscitate her. there were no obvious signs of any criminal intent at this time. it's being investigated by the beverly hills police detectives. >> she was dating ray jay. it was houston's bodyguard who discovered her yesterday afternoon. >> she ruled pop music for over two decades and broke ground for a whole new generation of recording artists. tomas ramon looks back to her career and personal life.

pay the team $33,000. he and another man lauren horzog is believed to have killed 15 people in a speed spree back in the 1990s. authorities believe as many as ten people may be buried in that well. this morning, in contra costa county, school officials are confident whatever caused the school wide illness is under control. on thursday, nearly one-quarter of the student body got sick. 200 students were be a sent. it was a gastrointestinal bug and they are pretty sure they know where it started. >> the only thing, they had everybody in the gym prior to school. there was child that got sick when everybody was in there.

>> carolyn: yesterday a cleaning crew wiped down the entire school. they will distribute fresh pencils tomorrow to make sure. a san francisco school at final count more than 900 students and faculty became sick. >> a para glide they're crashed in the side of a cliff is recovering after a dramatic rescue in daly city yesterday afternoon. it took crews with authorities two and a half hours to hoist the man to safety from the side of muscle rock. fellow bara gliders saw him go down around 3:00 p.m. they say winds coming from the north shifted and pushed the man into the rocks. >> it was about 150 feet down from where they perched their apparatus. had he to put cervical side precautions to keep his spine

transamerica pyramid. just another beautiful day in paradise. that's what i think. lisa argen is here now with the full weather story to fell tel me if i'm correct. >> lisa: we have clouds, sun, fog and rain and wind. we are looking right now mount tam, beautiful shot and marine layer is around 2,000 feet. we've got the sun above. below, dense fog advisory still in effect in parts of our north bay valleys. elsewhere around the bay, sutro camera looking pretty good. if you want to get some of that sun, go now. the sunshine will be fading throughout the morning hours. we've got a cold front on the way and some rain, 50 in fremont as well as oakland and san francisco with san jose coming in at 50. visibility, you can tell from that second shot no problem in our east bay and south bay.

less than a quarter of mile down to eighth of mile in novato. napa has improved. santa rosa, quarter of a mile visibility, cool there as well with fog along the shoreline. that will be lifting within the next two hours. be careful if you head out this morning. high and mid-level clouds and then by the early evening hours, rain will arrive through the bay area overnight. leftover showers and breezy northwest winds. we are looking at the clouds and some rain moving into northwestern california. we are enjoying a little bit of some sun but quickly in the next couple of hours we'll look for the cloudiness to overtake the sunshine. temperatures really is where they should be. upper 50s and low 60s. with the rain and the gusty northwesterly winds, it will feel much cooler tomorrow.

it's time to coincide with valentine's day when people think about those they have loved and lost. leaders of silicon valley are warning that green technology may not be the giant job creator it was predicted to be. business and technology reporter david louie explains why. >> convenient to your capitalists invested $3 billion into green technology last year. at the same time government is cutting back. >> research and development are being squeezed, even the california level we had the public interest research program that was through the california energy commission. the legislature was not willing to even fund that. >> reporter: chuck reed told business leaders they saw the goal to create 25,000 clean tech

jobs, but the current number is 7,000, but many are highly automated manufacturing doesn't require a lot of workers. >> they'll have a million dollar machine and few technicians managing the machine, they are manufacturing. cost of labor is relatively small. >> reporter: cleaner job growth may come from companies focusing on energy efficiency. cypress systems is a five-year old start-up that retrofits older buildings. 70% of them mostly built before 1997 don't have systems to monitor energy use or boost energy efficiency. harry simms is creating service jobs, he has 37 employees now but he projects 200 in five years. >> you need to go in there to install things, to install the wires to get the data to keep it up and running. those are jobs that can't be outsourced.

how much you owe versus available credit. call your credit card companies and ask for higher credit limits. get your usage below 30% and you could be looking at half percentage point rate drop. now your payment is $2,634. now most owe 20% equity again you a loan, 21% equity can get you a great loan. >> as an example. instead of borrow $80,000 on a hundred,000 home. if you knew that rule, you were able to borrow only $79,000 to stay below the 80%, you set a rate that will be under 4% today. >> you see once the loan value drops below 80%, some banks have additional rate drop. if you have the equity or our
