>> terry: good morning, i'm terry mcsweeney. what started as an investigation into stolen ipads in what authorities are calling the largest methamphetamine busts in u.s. history. a team converged on a large complex in san jose called the woods. they were there to clean up the dangerous chemicals. they cleaned up an apartment that investigators say had been turned into a sophisticated meth lab. they found 750 pounds of speed. street value, $34 million. three suspects are under arrest this morning. they also did find the missing ipads. >> a car crashed that left a 60-year-old man in critical condition is being investigated as a hit-and-run.

it happened in potrero hill neighborhood about 2:00 a.m. the driver jumped a curb on 16th hit the man and took off. the victim is being treated at a san francisco hospital. the death top has gone up from a violent rash of tornadoes that have torn across the south and midwest. 31 people are dead. this morning, the search for the injured and missing continues. t.j. winnick is in in smithville tennessee. >> one after another, after another, the tornadoes crashed their way across the countryside to the gulf to the great lakes. >> tornado. >> sirens wailed in warning, but they couldn't stop this. they took a direct hit. twister with winds estimated at 165 miles an hour. homes were smashed apart like doll houses leaving trails of sprawling wreckage. >> we have seen the storm path

coming in from up here. you could see it swirling and debris and that is when we went into the house. all i could feel the wind. >> the main focus is trying to get to people who are missing, trying to treat the injured, making sure they have all the medical attention that they need. >> the storm got a school bus right into the building. it tore the roof of a high school, everyone escaped alive. >> they said it would be bad and stay in the shelter. >> in marysville the devastation was total. these photos show a town all but blasted off the map. even a brick wall couldn't withstand the twister's force. in alabama there were brushes with death. >> went out the front door in the pouring rain. >> i came downstairs and saw

both houses on the side of me were gone. >> others rode the storm out in under ground shelters. the skier who died in the sierra avalanche this week has now been identified. benjamin bracket he was a bartender in squaw valley. they were skiing in an out of bounds area off of highway 89 near alpine meadows when an avalanche carried him 300 feet. bracket was slammed into a tree. he died hours after rescuers pulled him from the snow. sierra avalanche center has issued increased threat. >> in berkeley this morning, three shooting victims are recovering. they were hit in a drive-by. police are not saying whether they think the shooting was gang-related. >> this was the san at about 7:00 p.m.

berkeley police had closed off the street. police stopped the white van that had one of the victims inside. shots were fired near bancroft way. they heard a barrage of shots on the street. a car with two people inside opened fire on five young men who were in front of the a-building shooting dice. emily was inside the apartment when she heard the shots. >> we heard eight shots and we ran into the hallway and came out here and called the cops and came out here. i guess that people got shot over there. >> reporter: three men were wounded. one man managed to get in the van trying to get away. the van got to bancroft before it was stopped by police. they say it's the result of too much time and too many guns. >> they have to get the guns off the street. all the kids got guns. they don't have an education but

they got guns. >> it shows a dozen shots were fired. a family with small children was nearby a bullet that went through a window. >> in the window there is nice lady who has some children and her and her kid were right near the window when it happened. >> at least two men were in the car that opened fire. they don't have a description of the car at this time. >> reporter: berkeley police recently told us they have several descriptions of the suspect car. they also say the suspects are at large and anyone with information is asked to call berkeley police. >> terry: three men are now in jail accused of an october shooting that killed three young people in san leandro. they were gunned down following a warehouse party that been advertised online. reaction from the father of one of the victims. >> for the last five months, roger has kept his daughter's bedroom exactly the same as the last night she was there.

>> actually in my mind think she is coming home. >> reporter: she was one of three people shot to death early last october in san leandro. now, he says he is feeling relief. >> i can't express how i feel right now. >> they have arrested three men. they are now facing charges including homicide for alleged rolls in the murder and two friends. they were killed in a spray of bullets following an october party that san leandro police say was organized online. keel says he has been in close contact with the family of the other victims. >> we got a walk through of the murders from the witnesses that were there. >> reporter: he says the shooting started because his daughter and her friends brushed off the young men and their bruised egos triggered the gunfire. a fourth man was arrested a few weeks after the shootings. he is charged with three counts

of murdered. roger says she surprised by the latest arrests because he figured they had fled the state. >> i have renewed faith in the police department. i can't believe that i was on the verge of contacting america's most wanted. i don't need them now. can you believe that? >> terry: dinner doesn't normally come with a message but at alexander steakhouse they served up a statement. foie gras delicately plate for guests. they want a ban on the goose liver pate. the restaurant's protest was met with another protest, animal protection and rescue league. geese are force fed to produce those rich lives. >> all the profits will be donated to the coalition to

ruled one of chowchilla kidnappers should go free. they say richard has served his sentence and should be immediately released on parole. he along with two other men kidnapped a bus load of school children and buried them in a rock quarry back in 1976. they were able to escape unharmed. >> the crooked crookest street in the world became a river. the driver said he swerved to avoid another vehicle that had stopped short and he was stopped by the hydrant. it took fire crews about half an hour to turn off the water. but only one property was flooded. project to rebuild the approach to the golden gate bridge is back on track. they are reporting that the metropolitan transportation

commission and transportation authority and caltrans will chip in to cover a $54 million project deficit. project is almost done. engineers hope to finish the project by 2015. popular san francisco base review site yelp is trading publicly. yelp shares soared 64% from the $15 opening price. david louie looks at whether or not this promising start is likely to last. >> reporter: yelp claims to have 25 million reviews on the website posted by volunteers that dish up the good and bad about a range of businesses. but it hasn't turned a profit. tech analysts say the first day of stock trading has to put into perspective. >> they designed the ipo it would skyrocket. as long as you get before the

rocket falls to earth you could make some money. >> reporter: he points out that they are dependent on volunteers to return to post reviews. if they drift away, the popularity could falter, but for now consumers believe yelp is a strong brand. >> yelp and review are stuck in my heading to the. so i'm going to think of yelp first. >> they say the reviews provide great word of mouth promotion for his italian restaurant but there is a down side. >> down side they can write bad reviews that can hurt you and we have no rebuttal and no way of correcting the situation that happened. >> jordan doubts she would buy the stock. >> i'm not a gambling person, probably not. because a lot of other sites, they have google and facebook. >> investment advisor that the potential is more important than lack of a profit. >> what brings to mind, price

we have got 50s and 60's a's on the way. -- 60s on the way. >> sun was up at 6:38. setting at 6:06 and gusty winds allowing for some of the temperatures to come up rather quickly or with the light wind. later on today we will have more uniform temperatures with 60s and 70s. take a look at santa rosa, 40 right now. 43 in napa. 43 in fremont and 37 in redwood city and 58 in half moon bay. gusty wind that should be dying back and switching to onshore. 44 in san jose. chilly in some spots this morning, spring-like weather throughout the weekend and turning cooler on monday and tuesday. unfortunately that cold front doesn't have any rain associated with it. highs today, 50s and 70s.

now normally we should be in the low 60s. that would bring us 5-9 degrees above average. in fact today, the cooler day of the weekend. plan on a couple degrees of warming as we head towards the latter part of the weekend. high pressure to the east and west of us. clockwise flow allowing a downsloping winds. north-northeasterly winds that will allow for good visibility and warm weather throughout the day compared to early march. >> this shetup should stay with us the next couple days. a couple systems to the north of us that will slide south and graze parts of northern california, but bringing sunny rain? no, it will weaken the high but between now and then, we've got very mild weather. 61 in yosemite with 50 in tahoe. no new snow expected for the week, but we do have extended

it would be a great day to go to beach. santa cruz, live picture of the beach and it looks fantastic, a lot of open spots still available at 8:39 on a saturday morning. lisa argen, santa cruz, suntan lotion, getting in the water -- maybe not getting into the water. >> lisa: i talked about the gusty winds at half moon bay. despite the 58 degree temperature we have winds gusting to 15-20 miles an hour. so it's a little breezy but the winds will dial back later today. here is the view from tam. in the foreground we had very breezy winds earlier.

not so bad right now. things are beginning to lighten up in terms of the wind flow. upper elevations and roof camera. flags flowing there and this morning, we have very little wind to speak of in the valleys. down into the 30s. right around freezing earlier in napa and fairfield. low 40s in napa. still chilly, san rafael. 58 degrees in half moon bay. 45 in mountain view with fremont coming in at 43 as well as concord this morning. clear and definitely on the cool side for some of you around the bay. spring like temperatures will abound this weekend with tomorrow becoming a little bit warmer in the afternoon with this ridge already established. it's going to weaken, by monday we're going to see gusty winds on monday and tuesday on the heels of a dry trough that pushes on through. setup will allow numbers to be

well above average. this column right here, the forecasted highs, 67 in the city with low 70s elsewhere. normally we should see the low 60s, maybe a few mid-60s around the santa clara valley. that would bring us up to 5-6 degrees above average for san francisco and san jose. everybody else well above average. if you like that weather, enjoy it. looks like our next system not bringing in any rain. well to the north and west of us. for the short term, it's this high allowing for the slight offshore push. with that the strong ridge stays in place. and tomorrow it begins to weaken and slide off to the east. that is when we're going to see the trough move through. as for today we have the gusty east winds to start out with. those really will begin to die back. then the onshore flow but the temperatures already going to be mild before the sea breeze comes

medicine. is a star of a new documentary that premieres in san jose. we have been following the life of jason becker for more than a decade. now, the man and the movie. >> there is nobody better than that. >> he is on another level. >> people would hear him and they would say what the heck was that. >> he could set it on his lap. >> jason was on his way to be huge big star. >> dan: but that didn't happen. at age 20, jason becker was diagnosed with als, lou gehrig's disease. it robbed him of controlling his body. they gave him three to five years to live. when we first met him he proven the doctors wrong. now, he is 42 years old. more incredible during all those years, even though these can't move or speak, he has continued
