>> terry: good morning, i'm terry mcsweeney. dozens of fire victims of waking up in temporary housing this morning after being burned out of their san francisco homes overnight. three-alarm fire in the bayview district near qin t left 20 people homeless. it started about 9:30 last night in an abandoned building and quickly spread to three attached row houses. >> her neighbor was banging on her door to get out and she woke up her entire family and they ran out into the street. three ambulances were dispatched to the scene as a precaution but no one was hurt. >> minutes after getting that fire under control, crews responded to another blaze. this time in downtown san francisco. residential building at california and hyde street kept firefighters busy through the early morning hours. two people burned out of their

homes there. no injuries, no word on a cause. another bay area fire, this one in the north bay. burned a barn in fairfax. it begin a little after 5:00 at marin stables. barn has been there since 1937. it has two apartments in addition to several horses. they managed to get all the animals out safely. they say an electrical problem may have started that fire. this morning they are cleaning up across the midwest after a series of deadly tornadoes that killed 39 people including 20 in kentucky. you can see one of tornadoes right there. this is in indiana. more than 100 struck across nine states. here is report from one of the hardest hit areas, henryville, indiana. >> the streets and so many homes were empty. a curfew kept the 2,000 residents from a safe distance from the downed power lines and debris. >> at this time we are shifting

gears. we're actually turning what we call the cleanup mode. >> the tornado brought winds 175 miles an hour and ripped the roof off the high school. 11 students that hid in the principal's office survived. so did gina scott who works there. >> really, honestly i didn't expect to look like this when we opened up the door. >> three hours to the east, this is what is left of west liberty kentucky after another twister. >> about a mile and a half came through town. >> a doze tornadoes, part of the same system that brought hundred tornadoes through the midsection through the ohio valley and gulf coast. >> the only thing we have. >> it's an alert. >> cellphone warnings saved people that have to recover from the second tornado in less than a year. back in henryville, a restaurant owner saved himself by going into basement. he came upstairs to find a school bus in the dining room.

>> we're fortunate nobody got hurt. >> but the stories are loss are heart-wrenching. four-year-old boy ripped from his mother's arms died. two-year-old girl also found in a field survived but the family members found with her did not. >> across indiana, police say they haven't counted the number of injuries or the number left homeless. today's forecast calls for cold and maybe snow. >> terry: back in our area, they have identified a fatal shooting in east oakland. after responding to a shooting yesterday morning, they found an 18-year-old dead. he was found with multiple gunshot wounds. this is oakland's 21st homicide of the year. a tracy man credits his training in san francisco for the rescue of a 15-month-old boy. on friday, a wandered into his

backyard through an open door and fell into a family's koi pond. the family found him with the boy in his arms sweemg screaming for help. a neighbor happened to know cpr. >> he wasn't breathing. his pulse came back. >> i can't tell you the story. >> it turns out that kathy who didn't know his neighbor learned cpr as a reserve police officer for the san francisco police department. boy's father says, he is getting rid of that koy pond. >> t-minus two days for super tuesday. mitt romney front-runner is heading into the big day with a victory at hand after winning the washington state caucuses with 38%. david has the latest. >> get out and vote on tuesday. thank you so much.

paperwork and is at risk of being ineligible for more than a quarter of the delegates. romney's campaign pounced. >> the test that you are going to have to have to battle president obama is a test of rick santorum and this campaign. >> so senator santorum, did you flung? >> that is only problem with my candidacy, we're in pretty good shape. >> it's the battle state of ohio where romney and santorum will finish up the mad dash to super tuesday. >> terry: in the overall race for tell delegates, romney has 185, santorum has 90. gingrich, 33. ron paul has 23. please keep in mind it takes 1144 delegates to get that nomination. >> with just two days until the big super tuesday showdown, newt gingrich joined george

unified school district has kicked off a campaign to protect their schools from state cuts. if approved by voters in may, the measure "a" parcel tax $2.3 million per year in local funding for the next five years. district is facing a budget shortfall of more than $8 million for the current school year. >> we've been able to pass our measures in this community. we have wonderful facilities and the community has been supportive. but we need them to step up a little bit more. it's only $7 a month. a trip to starbucks. >> terry: if it is approved, it will be added to the property tax bill. the district has lost $35 million in the last ten years. lisa argen is joining us now. we've got sunshine out there and it's going to be better an good day. >> lisa: already 56 downtown. 15-20 degrees warming on top of mild numbers. this is emeryville. it's 49 out in livermore valley.

francisco. at the coast, northerly winds have backed off a bit so it's a little cooler there. up by point reyes, spending any time, stinson beach sea breeze could kick in and 60s there. sunny and warmer with cool and breezy weather arriving tomorrow. that is right. we've got showers in the forecast. maybe tenth of an inch of rain overnight monday into tuesday. here is a look high pressure firmly in control. jetstream well into canada. that is why away we are looking at easterly components. salinas, monterey could see records but bay area, low and mid-70s today. you can see the records to be beat would be around 80 degrees. so probably not going to happen today but today the warmest day out of next seven. high pressure still to the east and west of us. with that we have northerly,
