>> terry: good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. >> tomorrow a berkeley councilwoman plans to meet with the city manager to discuss the controversy of the police chief. he is publicly apologizing for ordering one of the officers to visit a reporter to try to get him to change on the story. now, the backlash the chief faces even after apologizing what he calls an error in judgment. >> this all happened thursday night after a ruckus meeting in berkeley. the police chief took pointed questions about the way the department responded to an attack on peter sukol last month. he filed a story about 11:00 p.m. about two hours later, sergeant a sergeant, police department's

blake johnson is now in police custody. so is an 18-year-old of redwood city. fairfield police are still looking for this man, 21 of east palo alto. >> looking for man that tried to kidnap a four-year-old boy. this is a sketch of the suspect. yesterday afternoon he told a child care employee at the livermore valley tennis club he wanted to pick up his son and he pointed to the boy. when he was asked for i.d. he left. police searched the area but unable to find that man. >> hayward fire investigators are busy looking on into the cause of two fires this weekend. first a house fire left an elderly woman and her son severely burned. less than three hours later, just a few blocks away, a second larger fire destroyed a plumbing business and threatened several others. lisa amin gulezian has the

details on both fires. >> just before 6:00 a.m., the flames turned the sky above the hayward strip mall orange. crews attacked the fire from the ground and from up above. >> we certainly don't want it to spread to other buildings. so the number one concern is to make sure it stays in place. >> it caused major damage to nearby nava plastering company but the three neighboring businesses were spared. >> i was afraid it was our building. as you can see the brick wall here, it stopped the fire. >> still broken glass and melted power boxes forced them to close it. while cleanup continues here, sadness grows on eighth street where two people were severely burned at a separate blaze at this home at 3:45 a.m. >> they are nice people.

>> they identified the victims at 92-year-old laura flores and her son 60-year-old son who many are calling a hero. >> she was burning or something and he pulled her out and called police. >> they say her chances of survival are slim. >> this neighbor says i don't believe it. i can't. she was a in good condition. she got up and she was moving. i think she will come home. the cause for both fires is still under investigation. >> meantime, the hayward fire department says they worry about handling the large fires but did call the county in to help man other stations while they put out the blaze. >> a man and his dog are dead after their house caught in fire in alameda. investigators say it started in the kitchen area just before 9:00 last night.

crews pulled the unconscious man from the home. they performed cpr. they got him to a hospital but he did not make it. it took 40 minutes to put out the fire and that is when firefighters discovered the man's dog had also died. exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> in san francisco, arson investigators are looking into two fires in golden gate park last night. both have links to the recreation and parks department. it appears someone first set fire to a honda belonging to rec and park employee. then about an hour later a rec and park truck went up in a ball of flames in a parking lot between kezar stadium and park police station. an officer reported seeing an explosion lift that truck into the air. investigators say both fires appear to be intentionally set. they are looking for any evidence that might connect the

afghanistan. a u.s. service member walked out of a southern nato base before dawn and started shooting afghan civilians. nato confirms reports 16 civilian casualties in the kandahar province. an army staff sergeant believed to be the shoot are has been detained by nato forces. they showed the bodies of 15 villagers including nine children and three women. all reportedly killed in three homes. one surviving child told afghan president hamid karzai by phone that the american soldier entered the house in the middle of the night woke up his family and started shooting them. tuesday primaries in alabama and mississippi could be game changers in the race for the white house. yesterday mitt romney won a decisive victories in smaller caucuses. rick santorum claimed the big prize.

weather from point reyes to sea ranch and down to larkspur, a few light showers out there. as it continues to limp along and fall apart, a little moisture in place throughout the morning hours. it could bring out a few showers. 48 in fremont and winds have been breezy and higher elevations, 20-25 mile-an-hour winds. that will be the trend for the week ahead. we are going to see several systems bring breezy winds, pretty good rain right through the weekend. spring arrives next monday. cool and showers in parts today but most of you won't see much at all. this front is very weak. we're going to see an area of low pressure instead of the high that low is going to allow several pieces of energy to fly south. first one here takes us through the noon hour. then the chance of showers right
