>> good evening, thank you for joining us, i'm ama daets. a new economic report shows how well the bay area continues to recover from the recession, the report is put out every two years. the bay area, boasted a strong $535 billion economy. it's the 19th largest economy in the world. sergio quintana has a breakdown of the report. >> when the last report was issued two years ago the bay area and the rest of the country was mired in a slow recovery. the good news now is the region is rebounding better than the rest of the country. the bad news, we have long-standing problems that still need to be addressed. cranes and towerrers over

mission bay in san francisco, one of the most obvious visuals of the powerful economic rebound the bay area is experience. >> we are, if nothing else, an innovation technology. >> this towers will have ecommerce companies. a report by the bay area economic council institute lays out strong stats. 40% of all venture capital in the country is invested here. 15% of the country's patents from from the bay area, and more than half of the top ten clean companies call the bay area home. >> we're the leading economy and we are differentiated. >> continuing on the innovation theme, seven of the ten biggest social media companies in the world are headquartered in the bay area. trade, tourism, and plenty of other economic indicators are headed in right direction. but their finding are not rosy. one of the biggest problems,

aging infrastructure. the report points to the doyle project as one of the only private-public projects and another problem, underperforming schools and cutting university budgets. >> we have been whacking their budgets every year, and if that money comes out, their able to generate the work force of the future is going down. >> another problem is the per sis extent unemployment rate. the bay area council is getting better but companies have not added many mere people to the payroll. we have the same number of jobs in the bay area now as there were in 1996. back to you. >> if you haven't been outside you probably heard the high winds which knocked a tree branch on to a major street in san franciscole the branch fell from a tree and narrowry missed

a car. some wicked winds and strong surf pounded the bay area toy. a high surf advisory expired this afternoon. breakers were cresting at 17 feet, and strong rip currents were reported as well. omore snow atop mt. hamilton in the south bay. it tends to get snow at least once a year. the area is offlimits to the public bus of safety concerns. but it's quite a sight considering spring starts tomorrow night. let get over to leigh glaser to find out how long the gusty winds are sticking around. >> leigh: they'll start to die down overnight. but let check out live doppler 7hd. you may have noticed sprinkle or showers. these are starting to dedecrees over the evening hours. half moon bay, little rain there. and also, check it out, los gatos, the last ten minutes or so we had a little pink showing

up near highway 17, near the summit. so, a possibility of maybe some sleet, maybe a wintry mix going on there. i know, hamilton is seeing a light dusting, as has mt. diablo. rainfall to date, we're doing a little better. santa rosa to date, 17 inches. we're at 57% of normal. san francisco, 51% of normal. san jose, only 30% of normal. the rain help us out. we're going to see allege more this upcoming week. the forecast is coming up. >> investigators are asking for help in finding a missing 15-year-old girl from morgan hill. sierra la ma is 5'2", thin build, was last seen leaving for school friday morning and never arrived. a search focused on morgan hill, he family and friends handed out fliers where investigators received a hit from her cell phone. her mother said there were no signs of problems. >> sierra, if you're out there,

there's that possibility, we love you so much and we want you home and we want you safe and we really -- there's a lot of people that love you and would like to say god bless you to all those people that are searching for you. >> sierra does not have history of running away from home. she left her cell phone charger at home, something her mother says sierra always takes with her if she is gone an extended period of time. >> the search has been suspended for the mother of an iraq war veteran suspected of killing his little sister and himself. family and friends joined in a search yesterday and found no science of gutierrez. specialist gutierrez was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder police police believe gutierrez may have shot his mother and left her for dead somewhere. san francisco sheriff will be sentenced tomorrow after

pleading guilty to false imprisonment in the domestic violence case against him. prosecutors dropped the domestic violence charges against him over a new year's incident with his wife. he will be sentenced to probation, domestic violence counseling and 100 hours of community service. mayor ed lee will now have to decide whether to file charges against the sheriff, who says he will not resign. a federal effort to improve air traffic in the bay area is about to take off. tomorrow the federal aviation administration will be at the oakland airport to announce details about the plan to streamline bay area air traffic and modernize oakland's control tower. it's designed to help improve the on-time records of airlines and reduce air pollution. >> a lifelong friend of the u.s. soldier accused in the afghan

bring us showers tomorrow night. overnight temperatures tonight, 44, san francisco, 39, san jose, 36, livermore. this is the low and the cold front pushing on towards the east, and as it does, start to move away from us, the winds start to relax. you can see the high clouds just to the west of us. part of this warm front will skim very close to the bay area. monday night and tuesday. and might be able to wring out a few light showers for us. so we'll keep that in the forecast. right now looks like the latter part of the work week will be dry. this is our timeline monday. by 7:00, much of the day will be dry. decreasing winds. by 7:00 we may see a few lying showers start to move in across the bay area. by tuesday a.m., most of the activity north of the golden gate bridge, and by tuesday afternoon it's out of here.
