boast0s strong $535 billion economy, the 19th 19th largest economy in the world. the report just released from the economic institute of the bay area comes out every two years. sir overquintana has a breakdown of the report. >> trains and towers rising over mission bay in san francisco. this is one of the most obvious visuals of the powerful economic rebound the bay area is experiencing. >> we are, if nothing else, innovation economy here in the bay area. you see is in the tech sector. >> these towers will soon house biotech labs and ecommerce companies, key components in the innovation economy. a report by the bay area council of economic institute lays our strong stats. 40% of all venture capital in the country is invested here. 15% of the country's patents come from the bay area, and more than half of the 100 top ten clean tech companies call the bay area home. >> we are the world's leading innovation economy, and that's what is helping to differentiate us now, and to drive growth.

gas prices are a hot topic in the political campaign. gas prices are still going up but the rise appears to be slowing. the national average is 3.83 a gallon. the same as yesterday but up four cents from a week ago. prices are up more than 30 cents over the last month. here in california, the average is 4.35 a gallon, and even higher in the bay area, averaging 4.40 a gallon. here's more. >> reporter: gas prices are inching closer to the $4 mark in most cities, and drivers in california, hawaii, and new york are really feeling the pain at the pump. prices there already average more than $4 a gallon and doesn't appear any relief is in sight. >> it's easy to promise a quick fix for gas prices. there isn't one. >> gas prices dominated president obama's weekly address. he took a jab at newt gingrich on the issue. >> any career politician who promises some three-point plan for $2 gas is not leaking for a solution. they're just looking for your

san jose, southwesterly gusts to 25. we have a tying pressure gradient, and in the evening hours, high and lows will start to relax and that's when the winds will decrease as well. 47, san francisco, 50, oakland, redwood city, 48. so decreasing winds tonight as we take a look at the highlights. colder overnight. partly cloudy for your monday, and as we mentioned, spring does arrive tomorrow night at 10:14, and a few light showers, mainly the north bay, monday night and tuesday. we'll get to that in a moment. speaking of showers, live doppler 7 hd, most of the moisture has moved out and you can see why. the close upsatellite, the klum husband cloud moving through--- -- cleared out nicely and freezing overnight. napa is 36, especially in the

wind-protected areas. temperatures will drop off. san francisco, 44. we look for mid-to-upper 30s towards the livermore valley area. this is the pressure gradient, low to high. and that's what helped to create very strong winds. this low will push on towards the east. the winds will relax tomorrow. a few clouds out ahead of this warm front, increased monday afternoon, the warm front brushes by extreme north bay communities monday night and tuesday. and that might be able to wing out a few -- wring out a few showers. here's a look at the typing. overnight, notice the clear sky, and it's going to be monday, early evening, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, when we start to see a little moisture feeding in, and by tuesday morning, 5:00 a.m., much of the moisture centered more or less by the golden gate bridge and then out of here on tuesday, wednesday and thursday, look terrific and plenty of sunshine.
