in the search for young sierra lamar, volunteers are now covering urban areas. tomorrow will mark two full weeks since sierra disappeared. we're live in the find sierra searchenter. >> there is another incredible volunteer turn out today. 447 checked into the center here today, some still out in the field covering new territory. in addition to the steady stream of volunteers the search center got another big boost. >> on behalf of the state we've collected and given to klaus kids $12,000. >> the donation will help fund operations to find the 15-year-old sierra lamar. she disappeared from her home march 16th. after two days of searching rural areas volunteers got new assignments. more urbanized locations.

district system for alerting parents when a student is absent. and we'll have that at 6:00. >> the man accused of killing five people in san francisco now has a new lawyer. that development means he has not been arraigned. we're in san francisco with the story. heather? >> we are at the scene of the crime. the collection of flowers and other items continues to grow here, it was a week ago today that five victims were found inside of that orange colored house and the sole suspect in this case finally has an attorney signed to represent him. we were allowed inside of the courtroom but not allowed to shoot his face. the 35-year-old bint thi luc is charged with five counts of murder with special circumstances. the public defender wants to represent him.

but the judge ruled it cannot because there is a conflict of interest. the public defender once represented his brother, brian who will be now called as a witness against binh. the judge appointed an independent defense attorney instead. and. >> we believe the judge's decision was wrong. >> i think he understands what is going on. and is concerned about having the best representation he can. and i assured him if i am his attorney, he'll get that. >> luc is accused of killing five people, four from the same family. victims were found bludgeoned to death in different parts of the house. and he should be entering a plea thursday, next week. we'll have more coming up in our story at 6:00.

live in the ingleside district of san francisco, abc 7 news. >> an elderly man was struck by a bicyclist who may have run a red light in san francisco today. this accident happened just after 8:00 this morning. according to witnesses the bicyclist was going downhill along castro street and hit the 72-year-old man in the crosswalk, police have not determined who is at fault. >> rick santorum is in the bay area, the first stop is a rally at the jelly belly candy factory in fairfield. abc 7's mark matthews is there now. mark? >> there is your timing is impeckable. they just finished the "star spangled banner" here, rick santorum expected momentarily.

oakland unified school district less than 24 hours after protestors broke up a school board meeting. 10 people were arrested overnight after refusing to leave headquarters and are upset over proposed closure of five schools in the district. the district decided to leave it to emeryville and parents and teachers are outraged by this decision. >> you spent $700 million to improve it and then leave to it emeryville? maybe sell it after that? that is unacceptable. >> it that is giving it away. >> please let our school open. >> this district tabled a decision on turning over another school to a charter school group. >> there are tense and bizarre moments in san francisco at this morning's meeting at uc board of regents. prot yefrts got kind of rowdy.

checking healthy living news a study indicates autism is even more common than previously thoupgt. findings show as many as one in 88 children have autism. and that means autism is nearly twice as common as health officials thought it was. a million american children and teens are affected and officials triggered increase largely to better recognition of cases. another study finds the vaccine for humanpapilloma virus could have benefits for women already infected with hpv. the company found the vaccine reduced recurrence of the diseases by 46%.

an audit of three

factories in china that makes apple's iphone and ipad found workers put in excessive overtime and didn't get paid for actual time worked. >> david louie has been covering this story for years and joins us live with details. >> the extensive audit is supporting what many have said for years that the main contractor in china has been ignoring safety and forcing workers to do excessive overtime on the assembly line. investigators went to three production facilities and discovered that workers exceeded 60 hours per week, shoe though chinese legal limit is 49 hours, including overtime. some employees worked more than seven day was out time off and didn't get paid for actual overtime worked. there is if a worker puts in 29 minute there's is no overtime pay. 58 minutes resulted in 30
