disturbing discovery in the search for missing sierra lamar. police are trying to determine if items found near her home are linked to the disappearance. judge sets a date for a hearing in ross mirkarimi's challenge of mayor lee's suspension of him as sheriff. good morning off to a quiet start. wet weather on the way for half of the weekend. i'm kristen sze. san francisco police investigating a body discovered this morning under the bay bridge. katie they are just determining they are treating this as a homicide? >> reporter: minutes ago i got a message from the police department. they found the body of adult male deceased in the road and they are treating this as a homicide. take a look, you can see the scene behind us and video we got earlier. there's a pg&e truck and a crew that might have been working in the area we have not confirmed whether that has anything to do with this dead the body was found in the middle of main street under the bay bridge, where the bay bridge crosses over main street. we are waiting to hear more from police. hopefully, we can confirm more information. when i got here i talked with a witness, a security guard

for one of the buildings, he explained what he heard, saw or what he didn't hear. >> i heard the ambulance outside. when i came outside, i seen the dead body, the cops were already here. i couldn't get a good look. they told me to go back inside. >> reporter: you didn't hear a gunshot? >> no i didn't hear nothing, everything was quiet. >> reporter: he went on to say this is a very quiet area, especially at this time of morning. again this happening around 2:45. back out here live you can see the scene. we are being kept half a block away. we continue to work our sources and find out how this person came to be killed in the mid -- in the middle of main street. katie marzullo, abc7 news. in a few hours volunteers will resume searching for a missing morgan hill teenager

after two new items were found not far from sierra lamar disappeared two weeks ago today. authorities are not ruling out the possibility the items might be involved in her disappearance. lisa amin gulezian reports. >> reporter: this is above the west end of palm avenue in morgan hill. to the side of the road near parked cars a volunteer searcher found an empty box labeled stainless steel handcuffs and five feet away, two used condoms. >> we don't know if these items are going to be related to the case or not. we are going to have them submitted to the crime lab. >> reporter: this is a mile and a half from sierra lamar's home. those who live nearby are surprised by the discovery. >> it is not a lover's lane or party alley. once in a while you see a car nothing like that. >> reporter: the items will be tested for dna, prints and

other trace evidence. this comes nearly two weeks after sierra lamar's disappearance. no one has seen the 15-year-old since march 16th, she never made it to school that morning. hundreds have searched a 12 mile radius from her home. investigators are saying sierra may have been abducted. the full scale volunteer search effort will continue everyday until sunday. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. police in antioch continue to develop information on a reported sexual assault at deer valley high. the alleged assault on a female student took place yesterday afternoon at the campus. authorities say attack happened in one of the restrooms before 3 p.m.. we are finding out that a chemical reaction caused a 55 gallon drum to pop its lid and release gases at a newark oil recycling plant last night. crews responded to reports of

an explosion around 11 last night. they found one drum containing some sort of paint product releasing gas. no shelter in place or was given. court date set in ross mirkarimi's challenge of mayor lee's suspension of him as sheriff. it will be heard april 18th. the mayor suspended the sheriff, without pay, last week for official misconduct after mirkarimi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment. his attorney asked a judge this week to immediately reinstate mirkarimi. the lawyer says public officials can't be removed from office for official misconduct unless their crimes occurred while in office and mirkarimi was sworn in one week after the domestic violence incident involving his wife on new year's eve. rick santorum is returning to wisconsin today after

spending a day campaigning here in the bay area. he arrived in alamo last night to pick up campaign cash at a fundraiser hosted by mark and becky pine. he made appearance at the jelly belly factory the candy was made famous by ronald reagan. >> talked about cutting taxes for everyone not just those at the upper end but for everyone. creating opportunity for everyone. that's the message i've been taking around this country. >> he's a good guy. i think he's got some decent ideas. i have no problem giving him final surge competition is good. >> it is not clear how much cash he raised from his bay area he's vowing to press on the fact he's behind in delegates and money. -- the mega millions jackpot is a record 540 million dollars. people are looking for any advantage to win.

good morning. live look from our rooftop camera of the embarcadero and bay bridge things here look dry the weekend does not. mike has the forecast coming up. in fremont today demonstrators planning a demonstration at local armed forces recruiting to protest the killings of 17 afghan civilians in kandahar by a u.s. soldier. more than 150 afghans and supporters gathered for a vigil two weeks ago. today's march is organized for afghans for peace and iraq vets again the war. it begins at fremont bart station at 2:30.

staff sergeant robert bales is accused of killing the civilians in afghanistan on march 11th. two companies that manage and store records for the state department of child support services say they've lost sensitive information connected to 800,000 californians. ibm and iron mountain say four missing discs held social security and driver's license numbers as well as addresses the back-ups disappeared while being transported from colorado to sacramento by fedex. people whose data is missing are being notified. next week the board of directors for the municipal transit agency are considering charging to park on sundays it would help close a 53 million dollar budget shortfall over two years. church groups oppose the plan with most services starting at 11 a.m., people would have to leave church in order to feed the meters. the budget includes free muni

in alameda. she will help introduce the cutter stratton into the coast guard fleet. the first lady will meet with women vets who served with stratton. bunch of kids doing cleanup work found something they didn't expect while picking up trash around lake merritt they found a bag filled with pressure -- with precious jewelry in the water. >> reporter: the weekly garbage cleanup turned into a treasure hadn't for 6th graders. instead of the usual assortment of debris, they found two bags full of precious jewelry and other heirlooms. >> look at all these bracelets. >> reporter: you don't usually find this kind of thing, do you? >> not really. i heard of a story of a woman who found a diamond ring in the grass. it is amazing itch >> reporter: the bags were filled with at least 100 pieces of silver and gold rings, bracelets, watches.

forecast cycle, mild highs some areas may hit 70, a few sprinkles across the north bay not as much rain as yesterday. morning rain tomorrow, showers windy and cooler saturday, dry sunday, monday and tuesday. we'll salvage half the weekend where we can get out and not have to worry about getting wet. livermore, san jose, 70° today. north where the clouds are thicker rain around ukiah, mid to upper 50s. most of the north bay valleys -- [ unintelligible ] down to the monterey bay more sun, mid 60s around the bay as you head inland -- [ unintelligible ] low to mid 70s. showers up to the north today eureka 54, chico 64, tahoe 58, 70 yosemite palm springs almost 90° today.

back home tonight all the rain and mild temperatures other than clear lake, cloverdale, santa cruz and morgan hill upper 40s, we have a low to mid 50 sandwich between those two areas. front stalled to our north most energy up to the north and taking the bulk of the wet weather with it. nice, moist flow along this front, we need something to push it to our neighborhood many this area of low pressure will hook-up with the front, increase the intensity, also increase the rainfall. scattered showers possible during the evening and overnight be aware of that if you have plans. here's the real deal coming in 7:00 tomorrow morning into the north bay, sweeping through the heart of the bay from about 9:00 through 2 then you see scattered showers windy conditions move in those will fall apart from saturday night into sunday morning. sunday afternoon still breezy but it won't be wet.

falsified and misrepresented data, hidden science and promoted employees who knew about the falsehoods in an effort to advance a predetermined outcome against the oyster farm. the park service and department of interior are declining to comment. scientists say bees are getting sick from a common class of pesticides. the pesticides used on 90% of corn crops in the u.s. is attack the central nervous system of bees driving down the number of queens and causing bees not to return to the hives. the epa is considering banning the chemicals. it took hours of effort crews have freed a baby whale that got trapped in nets off southern california. crews from two mammal centers used a special tool to cut the net away from its tail. the whale surfaced, then disappear. mark attached so he could be
