combing through the building and we're also being told that the mayor of oakland, jean kwan is expected to arrive here shortly. >> and at least six victims were taken to the hospital and that is where the family spoke with abc 7's carolyn tyler we talked to a family of a woman who has a massive gunshot wound to the arm. she's in good condition to tell her family what happened. here is a picture her brother shared with us. a telephone picture of his sister and there is a military uniform, she's in army reserves, attending to get her nursing degree. her family is saying that they received a phone call from her. >> and we didn't go to school

three, four months. >> and so what does she do? >> run. she got shot because she helped a friend that fell on the floor. and that friend got away. a few other people we lost were friends, too. it's not easy on us, or them. >> and they're hopeful she was among six people brought here. the hospital is not releasing any information about the other patient's conditions but we do know that one fortunate 19-year-old is here, expected to have a good recovery. in oakland at highland hospital abc 7 news. >> thank you. >> police say they've arrested oneman in this case. they believe he act add lone. police say he is a former

nursing student. it appears the first room he started shooting was a nursing class. then he went down the hall, into other classrooms as well. and the suspect basically turned himself in at the south shore shopping center in alameda. >> this is about three miles from the university. the suspect parked his car, and was arrested over there in front of safeway without incident. police arrested the suspect at 11:30 in front of safeway in the south shore center parking lot this, security guard called police after he spoke to the suspect. and this guard told me he approached the suspect because he was acting suspiciously. he says the suspect told him he needed to talk to police because he shot people. officers took him into

custody. a source says they recovered a gun, taking the suspect to the police station about a half mile away. safeway shopper saw it all. >> this looked like they saw him out of the door to see if he had anything in his pockets stolen. there is no fight. just wearing a beanie. >> police cordoned off a portion of the parking lot where the honda was parked. investigators began a probe, and police officers arrived and took the suspect into their custody. he buried his head in the back jeet. -- back seat. a flat bed truck carried the honda away. and this car is registered to a 38-year-old man who attends university by day. at night he's a janitor. we do not know if the owner of the car is a suspect because police have yet to name the suspect.

the flames damaged a nearby home and garage. another fire in pacifica kept crews busy this morning. this claimed lives of a child and his great grandfather. and there is 13 people inside of the house, only 11 able to get out. some through a second floor window. a boy and his great grandfather were not able to escape. >> former sheriff ross mirkarimi can move back into his family home temporarily. a judge ruled he may stay at his home while his wife and their son visit family in venezuela. he was arrested on domestic violence charges and has not been home or allowed to see his wife since then. the mayor suspended him.
