hugs and tears at a vigil in concord as a community mourns the death of a father and his daughter. i'm alan wang. ama dates has the night off. they were on the sidewalk when they were killed yesterday during a morning bike ride. thomas roman is live in concord at the site of the accident where they gathered tonight. thomas? >> the candles are still burning at the memorial behind me. the candlelight vigil was difficult for everybody involved. they came around to mourn him and his daughter. the people of concord came as well. it was a solemn vigil. female members wept as they held up pictures of him and his nine-year-old daughter. close to 200 people came to

pay their p ares at the site of the fatal accident. he is still trying to cope with his loss. >> every time she sees me, hi, emo. i keep having her voice through my head and seeing her face. it is a rollercoaster. >> the 11-year-old daughter seen on the right of the photo survived a broken leg. >> we just have to cherish her and worship her. >> the accident happened saturday morning at 9:30. the 17-year-old driver of the suv was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle. he was going fast enough to dislodge and send a fire hydrant 50 feet before hitting nuri and his daughter riding their bikes on the sidewalk. friends and uh acquaintances shared their feelings. >> they are sweet little girls. >> very emotional. such a lovely family. >> youngsters who know the girls and who were coached by nuri in soccer wrote cards.

>> according to the tau -- tibetan association she was among the people gunned down last week when juan go opened fire in the classroom. throughout the week a series of memorials have been conducted by several denominations and faiths. people who came from around the world in the bay area. >> it was an international community. it was a worldwide thing and it is being telecast all over the world. this message was tragedy. >> they had a special easter sunday production. and on this day it was woven into the classical biblical tale with some reflection on the tragedy. people find their common gnat and their common humanity, and they truly are their brother's keeper, and people do care. >> in san leandro, a different denomination, but a similar message. >> a sense of feeling the pain that christians would initiate and feel around this time.

facebook.com/abc7 news. in san francisco, rescue crews freed a utility worker stuck in a manhole. abc news has the look at the rescue. it happened an hour ago on fremont and howard street. authorities say the worker was installing fiber cable when he fell 10 feet and hit his head and was unable to climb out on his own. firefighters had to lower down one of their own to rescue the trapped worker. and two accidents happened within minutes of each other this afternoon in san francisco sending eight people to the hospital. the first occurred on the embarcadero at harrison street. the second was just two blocks away on the embarcadero. a car collided with a muni train in the first accident. police say the driver of the red jaguar made an illegal left turn and was broadsided by the train. the driver of the car had to be extricated. around the same time an suv police believe was speeding hit three cars before ramming into the restaurants. all of the injuries were

minor. also in san francisco, an out of control suv wiped out a bus stop. the car sheared off a fire hydrant before slamming into the bus stop. police had to close the street and postpone bus service for a short time. uc berkeley selected its students for the fall, and at least one activist group isn't happy with the make up of the class. lilian kim joins us with a look at what they want. lilian? >> alan, demonstrators who showed up want the university to accept more under represented minorities. they say public schools should reflect california's population. >> designated as top student, and they were selected to be a national scholar. >> she thought she had the grades, the scores and the extra extra curricular activities to be accepted. she was wrong and with this senior found out she didn't get in, he was devastated.

two men under r under arrest in the random shooting spree of five african-americans in tulsa, oklahoma. jacob england andal ving watts are response -- and alvin watts are responsible for the murderous rampage that left three dead and two wounded. it occurred in less than an hour early yesterday morning within three miles of each other. police are examining the facebook account. the 19-year-old posted a message using a racial slur venting anger over the killing of his father boy a black man. >> being an naacp president for seven years, i think somebody that committed these crimes were very upset with black people. >> england and watts are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. they face three counts of first degree murder and two

well, two people are dead after a plane crashed near salinas. it happened after 7:00 this morning near old stage and zabala road. the f.a.a. and national transportation safety board are now investigating. and spring break is over for california lawmakers who face tough decisions when they reconvene tomorrow. the legislature will decide whether to make deeper cuts to welfare programs and reform the pension system and improve borrowing for a high speed rail. governor jerry brown has asked lawmakers to appropriate $2 billion to build the nation's first high speed rail system. if the legislature approves borrowing, construction could begin later this year. the states plan to save money by closing 70 state parks by july 1st. it will take more than hanging a closed sign on the trail heads. a report by the analyst's office says many parks on the closure list house thousands of treasures that have to be

packed up, cat tau logged and stored which will cost money. several nonprofits and private donors have stepped in to keep 11 parks open. well, it is not only tops at the box office "the hunger games" is at the top of another list. for the second year in a row "the hunger games" is among the most challenged books. controversial books that parents want pulled from school libraries. they claim the book is sex -- sexually explicit, violent and unsuitable for young students. the author admits the books are not for everyone. it also includes "ttyl" and" ttfn," the "gossip girl" series and" the color of earth" series for being sexually explicit. the list was compiled by the american library association. francis is this in -- is in. . >> things are changing, but at least we got the nice weekend in and a nice easter for those who had outdoor activities

planned. here is a live shot and we are looking down toward san francisco. the camera is paning so we can see the bay bridge. we have some high clouds moving in overhead. increasing clouds tonight and making for another cool start tomorrow, but thought as cold as it was yesterday morning. we'll look at temperatures right now, i want to stay on that shot as long as i could. in the 40s and 50s. 52 in san francisco and 46 in oakland. 54 in san jose. so tomorrow we will cool into the 40s as well. but with the increasing clouds, that is giving way to a wet workweek ahead. the rain starts by tomorrow afternoon and evening, and then it will be raining and cool. you notice a significant change on tuesday. the wet pattern stays with us on friday, and then we will get a break on saturday and sunday. at this point it is expected to be dry. we have this area of low pressure. the air is circulating counter

clockwise, and this front has been stationary. it is inching its way to the bay area. that's why we will see cloudy conditions tomorrow with the showers in the north bay. it is moving very slowly and then it will push through on tuesday. that's when we will see more rain and the cooler conditions as well as the front moves through. here is the forecast model, the green showing light rain into the bay area, but not quite making it for tomorrow morning's commute. just extra cloud cover. and then later on in the afternoon we will start to see the rain develop in parts of the north bay. santa rosa and the sonoma coast and down to marin county. we will see it especially along the coast. and then we will take the overnight hours to tuesday before we really see the rain for everybody else around the bay area. and then by the time tuesday is over it looks like we will get a thrird to two-thirds of an inch for most areas. over an inch in the coastal hills. the lows tonight in the 40s. 49 in san francisco. pretty cool in napa at 45. fairfield 42. and look for 45 in san jose

and 41 in morgan hill. it will be a pretty nice day tomorrow. it is not as warm as we experienced today. but there will still be a couple of low 70s out there in livermore, 71 in san jose. and look for increasing clouds especially in the north bay where we will start to see the rain move in. santa rosa 67 and clear lake 60. 66 in richmond and 64 in san francisco. farther south, more sunshine. we will still see some low 70s as well through morgan hill, and hall lis sister. the rain won't -- and hollister. the rain won't hit until tuesday. shear a look at your seven-day forecast. we have the rain coming to the north bay first and starting tomorrow afternoon and evening and then rain for everybody for tuesday and we might get pockets of a break on wednesday. and thursday and friday it is going to be wet as well and cooler and then dry next weekend. >> thanks, francis.

starting pitching is supposed to be the strength of the giants. but so far it has been the opposite. matt cane is hoping to pick up his first win of the season. early on things were looking good. in the third buster posey delivers a two-run shot. it was 6-0. but arizona would rally and getting two in the fourth. and then in the sixth cane gives up a two-run blast to roberts. on the next pitch lyle overbay connects. cane gave up five earned runs. arizona took the lead in the seventh. hill scores a go ahead run. posey came off the plate and that brought up bruce bochy who was ejected. the d backs win seven of six completing a three-game sweep. the sharks learn they will open up thursday at st. louis. it is the best of seven series with the first two games on the road. san jose lost all four meetings with the blues this season while being out scored. it was 11-3.

i'm alan wang. in tonight's headlines, a vigil was held in concord at the site where a father and his daughter were run down by a teen driver yesterday. police are checking the driver's cell phone records to see if he was talking or texting when that crash happened. five people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries and two san francisco car crashes, both on the embarcadero. a red jaguar made an illegal turn in front of a muni train in the first accident. in the second, a car that may have been speeding hit three cars before slamming against a restaurant. in oakland and at several churches around the bay area, the victims of the oikas tragedy were remembered. gas prices are dropping. nationwide gas prices have fallen one cent from yesterday and nearly 5 cents from a week ago. but today drivers filling up

the pennsylvania presidential primary although two weeks away could decide the nominee. there is overwelmingly in delegates and the strongest fundraising in the field. it is so strong that newt gingrich was talking in the past tense today about the race. >> for me it was important to try to do some hard things. to try to bring new ideas. it turned out to be harder than i thought.

but it was the right thing for me to do at that point for my life and where i thought the country was. >> gingrich is still in the race at this point. the former senator hopes to get back on the campaign trail on tuesday. polls give santorum a small lead in pennsylvania too. and ron paul in the middle of his bid and despite being down in the polls and delegate count has no plans in throwing in the towel. the texas congressman paid a visit to 7 live and told brian copeland why he remains in the race. >> what is your purpose in staying in the race at this point? >> to count all of the delegates. in the primary races where they have had these straw votes, the straw votes then picked the delegates. there is quite a few states that are still working that through. we are going to get a lot more delegates, but it will be a real challenge to overtake governor romney. still, the point is to run a

race and to go a good job and do a good job for your supporters who ask for a good race and to present a cause and try to change not only the republican party, but to change the country and call attention to some of the things nobody else will talk about. the republicans and democrats support the wars. republicans and democrats support the federal reserve system printing money when they need money, and that has lead to a lot of trouble. >> let's go back to what you said about supporting wars. when it comes to the issue of iran, a lot of democrats, a lot of republicans favor using the use of force if iran does get nuclear weapons capability. you among the gop presidential candidates are opposed to it. and it has hurt you with conservatives, and it does hurt you with jewish people. so that being the case, you want to explain what your philosophy is and why you are opposed? >> my philosophy is national defense and the constitution

and follow the rules. if you use force and as our presidents do and as our government does, that means you use aggression. that means you start the wars like we did in iraq. iraq wasn't a threat to us. they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. there was no al-qaeda there. how many americans died? how many billions of dollars were spent? how many people were injured. if we needed to go, it should have been done in a proper manner. we should have declared war. iran is the same thing. there is a much healthier discussion of this than there is here. it is closed minded that if we are using force even if they don't have a weapon we have to stop them from getting a weapon. i don't like the weapons. i would like everybody to give up their nuclear weapons.

cane gave up five runs over six innings. arizona took the lead and hill scores a go ahead run when he came off the plate. that brings up bruce bochy who was ejected. 7-6 was the final. the giants lost eight straight to the d-backs. the rays were looking to complete a sweep of the yankees. it appears to be headed out, but a fan reaches over and catches the ball. it is ruled interference. the fan was ejected and pena got a ground rule double. he celebrated his 25th birthday by shutting them out eight and two-thirds innings. they got insurance in the 6th as this former giant tags a solo shot. the rays shut out the yankee threes-0. it is their first 0 and 3 start since 1998. and jeremy lin says if the knicks make the first round of the playoff he's probably will not be ready because of his knee injury. you can say he is lin-jured.
