edge of lighter rain in the north bay. everyone has had light rain throughout the day, 17/100 we picked up here. peninsula wet through 280, beginning to rain lightly in the south bay. most of the activity has been north. finally, this front will continue to kick on to the east. you can see moisture brought up from the south. we need this area of low pressure to continue to slide south and east that is going to get the front out of here through the overnight hours. the rest of the day scattered showers for the evening commute and thunderstorms maybe tomorrow. will the giants' opener be dry? the answer coming up. breaking news out of pennsylvania. >> live picture we are getting from gettysburg where rick santorum is expected to announce that he is suspending his campaign for the gop presidential nomination. santorum left the campaign

trail for a few days to be with his daughter who was in the hospital. she suffers from a rare genetic disorder. many speculated the upcoming primary in pennsylvania was make or break for the santorum campaign. we'll have more later today. the rain and the wind causing delays for travelers flying out of san francisco international. sfo officials say some arriving flights are delayed more than two hours. no delays at san jose or oakland. for updates on airport delays, check out our flight tracker on the both top of the front page of northbound northbound.com. -- of abc7news.com. let's look outside on the roadways this is the oakland maze traffic moving well taking it slower as roads remain wet. on the san mateo bridge there was a big back-up this morning. that seems to have been removed. you can see traffic is moving in the rain down there this morning. >> let's take a live look now

dignataries. there will also be a concert for victims at noon. >> reporter: the weather mirrored the mood. it was very somber at this ceremony. the weather did not keep people from coming. every seat was taken. one of the first speakers they heard oakland mayor jean quan. >> people of oakland have really expressed a lot of love and support for you. this is a city that prays in 130 languages. as diverse as your school. one where people ask me all the time, is there something else we can do? >> reporter: about 100 people here to remember the seven who were killed last week. the university has been holding noontime concerts to remember the victims. this ceremony was more somber and brought a variety of mourners. some victim family members

were here, a few dignataries and some who barely knew the victims but still touched. a woman said some of the students had been interning at her nursing clinic at a prison she described them as eager and excited. >> i feel they are part of us as well. that's why i'm here. i didn't know them very long. i just thought, it is only appropriate for me to represent our department. >> reporter: 43-year-old one goh is charged with seven counts of murder and three counts after tempted murder. he's due back in court the end of the month. he is a former nursing student here at the university. u.s. representative barbara lee was here working with some of the victims' families to try and get their relatives

here from overseas. the korean counsul general of san francisco also here, he addressed the crowd. i checked in with one of the administrators to find out how the university community is doing? she said possibly they will resume classes next week. she says it depends on how it goes. she was too emotional to say anything further. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this just in. statement from oikos university, saying they will create a memorial fund in honor of the victims of the april 2nd, shooting. more on that coming up later in our news programs. the national transportation safety board -- we understand rick santorum is suspending >> good afternoon to all of you. i'm diane sawyer in new york. we're interrupting your regular programming with some very important political news. we have learned at abc that senator rick santorum former senator has announced he is

suspending his campaign for the presidency. which of course would be the effective end of this primary campaign. clearing the path for mitt romney to proceed to the nomination. i'm here with george stephanopoul stephanopoulos. >> i think he did it today for a couple of reasons. first, he had this health problem, this health the hospital over the weekend, the 3-year-old suffering from a -- he was facing the next primary in his home state of pennsylvania on april 20 tourth. he was facing a barrage, likely barrage from mitt romney and the chance he would lose his home state of pennsylvania which would risk sacrificing all the gains he's made. remarkable he's made in this campaign. what this will preserve today is his ability to be a continuing for in the conservative movement. continuing force in the republican party.

>> john carr is standing tell us what you this think the romney camp is doing today? >> the romney campaign is getting ready for that general election something they were already facing but not taking this for granted. the romney campaign had readied a harsh ad attacking santorum they were going to run relentlessly in the state of primary. that ad was pulled, santorum's 3-year-old daughter was in the hospital over the weekend. now that ad will never see the light of day. they will move on and focus on what they've wanted to focus on for a long time, barack obama. >> big difference now this early instead of waiting that other two weeks. >> no question. this primary campaign has cost mitt romney a lot in his favorability ratings likeability rating, he's behind now in the race against barack obama. now he will be able to concentrate on that important also for santorum, because he won 10 states he has gained a

into a pedestrian across the street from where i'm stage. that's about all they can say with certainty now. take a look at the aftermath of the investigation. you will see a lot of circles on the pavement each placed at a piece of evidence, lots evidence but major questions remain. who was the deceased? police will tell you a white male in his 20s. he no id. might have been out just for a walk. coroner will have investigation possibly today. the driver of the pick-up truck stopped, called 911 one, waited for police, not drug or alcohol impaired. police have his version of events. which they are not sharing. but, police also want to know exactly what happened from witnesses. they don't have any that's why they want to talk to the mystery woman. >> there was a woman who very graciously good samaritan stopped immediately and started performing cpr on the

pedestrian in an effort to revive him. when an officer arrived and took over the cpr she left and we never got her name or statement from her. we are thinking that perhaps she saw the collision happen. in which case she would be our only independent witness at this point. >> reporter: to let you know how loud the accident was a number of ear witnesses have come forward. some were standing a block away police have no eyewitnesses. if you did see the accident last night or have an idea who the woman was who stopped and performed cpr, mountain view police would love to hear from you. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. happening right now in san jose state university's president just announced the school will end admission guarantees for qualified students who are residents of santa clara county. officials say they can't afford the admission guarantee any more after budget cuts. this change will affect 1400 south bay high school grads and community college transfers.

small group of protesters showed up at miami marlin stadium this morning to show how unhappy they are with the punishment meted out to manager guillen they don't think the punishment is harsh enough for him saying he loves castro and respects him for staying in power so long. today he apologized and say the reporter misinterpreted him but did take responsibility. >> this is the biggest mistake so far in my life i made. when you make a mistake this big, you can't sleep, you constantly think about for days. if i don't learn from this i will call myself dumb. >> miami is filled with cuban refugees who hate castro. the suspension comes five games into the season. meteorologist lisa argen is coming up to talk about the forecast. >> we'll be right back. ed

rain going to end? >> it has been sitting over the same area in the east bay. we are beginning to see it move slowly to the east. as we head out now you can see cloud cover, fog being reported from napa to concord, santa rosa towards monterey. we have sunshine south of there, live doppler 7 hd right now shows the rain heavier here from vacaville south through fairfield in vallejo through richmond. the bluer color this is pretty much ended the rain. we'll continue to watch this front just sluggishly slide to the east. got some light rain down the peninsula barely raining in some of these spots will move into the central valley. the rain will continue to push-up and into the santa cruz mountains later on today. the front has been stalled out offshore. then it got hung up here as a result, we are looking at some rain that has occurred over

and over not heavy rain, less than a quarter of an inch in most spots. 53 in san francisco, 54 four -- 54 in san jose, fog has reduced visibility in santa rosa to 2 1/2 miles, airport delays over two hours. continuing to be rainy and cool today, it will slowly taper off, possibility of a thunderstorm tomorrow, we are looking at more wet weather through midday friday this is extending into the evening hours as well. it is a couple different systems. this system here, you can tell slowly pushing east taking the heaviest moisture with it. this area of low pressure is going to push east and that low is going to create the unstable environment for tomorrow. for the thunderstorm activity. let's go through the rest of the afternoon spotty showers, 6:00. tomorrow notice cloud cover a few peeks of sun wednesday. then by thursday, there's that next system the morning commute is a wet one again.

dental x-rays may increase risk of the most commonly diagnosed brain tumor in the u.s. researchers asked 1100 people with brain tumors how often they received the x-rays. the study found those with tumors were twice as likely to remember having a bite-wing x-ray. having a panoramic view x-ray before the age of 10 raised the risk up to five times. dr. besser says bottom line, people are getting too many dental x-rays. >> do i need this test? is there any way to get the information? can you get from it my old films? if you do that the american dental association says we can cut in half the number of dental x-rays we have. >> the study has come under criticism because the data relies on patients' memories not records. three maryland public schoolworkers are winners the historic mega millions lottery

good friday was a little bit of a passion for us with our daughter bella. who is the joy of our lives getting unfortunately, very sick. we ended up in the hospital all weekend. i'm here to report to start out things that she is a fighter and she is doing exceptionally well and is back and the family and we are looking forward to spending a lot of great time we are had. but it did cause us to think as the role that we have as parents in her life and with the rest of our family. this was a time for prayer and thought over this past weekend. just like it was frankly, when we decided to get into this race. karen and i and the kids sat the -- sat at the kitchen table and talked about our hopes, fears and concerns. we were concerned about our

role as being the best parents to our children in making sure they had a country that was -- where the american dream was still possible. a lot of concerns we had that karen and i had particularly for our family was that with what was going on in washington, d.c. and all of the problems that you heard me talk about on the campaign trail that american dream was slipping not just from the hands of average americans, but for all americans. that dream was slipping away. and we had to, as good parents to go out and do what we could to take on that responsibility for our children and for children across this country. so we started out almost a year ago now in somerset, pennsylvania. and i told my story, our story of our family. my grandfather, who came to this country and worked in the

coal mines. and my father who served this country in world war two. and talked about my stories and the stories of our families. after a while it became less about my stories and more about what kept us going were your stories. stories of people across america that we had the privilege of getting a chance to know and interact with. when you -- we travel around one such story was a guy named chuck who had a pick-up truck and joined our team. and drove us around in his dodge pick-up truck for months and did so as a volunteer because he believed that we provided the best opportunity to turn this country around. i met a lot of folks in iowa that i will never forget. folks like sam clovis a talk show host.
