cupertino, campbell you've all get the wet weather. you can see how strong the cold front is how quickly it slices through the bay area. showers behind it. they will be very light we are not going to see any more shower activity until perhaps the afternoon. continuous, steady heavy rain in the east bay, peninsula, south bay, very mild temperatures and we are looking at winds gusting to over 25 and 35 miles an hour. there's an overturn crash in oakland westbound 580 at broadway. a couple right lanes blocked. chp arrived, they are saying no injuries now. hopefully it will be cleared quickly. live shot westbound 80 turning into eastbound and this is westbound 80 traffic towards the bay bridge to the right there are wind advisories for the bay bridge, richmond san rafael and golden gate bridge as well. look out for a wet ride now southbound 680 walnut creek towards highway 24, half a

shot in san francisco on the embarcadero heavy rain there. it is the east bay that is expected to get the heavy rain this morning. there's a small stream advisory in the east bay in effect until a little before 6:00 this morning. lots of wind and rain here. in stockton this crazy weather produced a tornado 1:00 yesterday afternoon with winds estimated to be 90 miles per hour. the tornado destroyed a shed and it tipped over an empty tractor trailer and it scared a lot of people. >> a piece of metal was coming right at me so i ducked and it hit the ground before it hit my window. >> reporter: no one was hurt. everyone was freaked out. tornadoes are considered rare for the region. that weather also brought thunderstorms and hail. we are expecting a very wet day, especially this morning. if you are going to be leaving your house this morning by car,

bike or a , you are going to be dealing with -- or a jog, you are going to be deal with this storm. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. bart officials said rain or shine they would break ground today for the multi-billion dollar extension project to san jose. terry mcsweeney is live in the south bay where a bart car has already made it. >> reporter: by the way they are getting rain in case you can't tell the rain or shine thing, the shine is not work out now many rain coming down very hard. let me show you that bart train, finally, when would bart come to san jose? would it happen in anybody's lifetime? there it is. parked on the back of a truck but still behind the bart train you can see the huge tent that is going to be the center of the groundbreaking today, as you said, rain or shine. look at what this is going to look like when it is all said and done. this phase of the fremont to san jose project is a 2.3 billion dollar effort, getting

to north san jose. already there's talk about getting bart to downtown san jose, milpitas going to get a station. construction begins today on this groundbreaking ceremony on a 10 mile portion of this project linking a future warm springs bart station in south fremont to this. the transit administration is making a 900 million dollar grant to get bart to san jose. >> those that can step to the plate and put skin the game and turns up local dollars to help leverage the federal investment and become true partners, goes a long, long way. >> reporter: that's the way of complimenting the voters in santa clara county in her opinion residents said yes twice to this project in 2000 to raise 1.2 billion dollars with an increase in sales tax. and again in 2008, when the economy was really sliding they approved more money to fund maintenance. lots of jobs going to be

created. also lots of inconvenience for drivers certainly on mission boulevard on dixon landing road and other locations in the south bay those streets will be torn up. senator feinstein, will be here today along with the transportation secretary mineta for the groundbreaking of bart to san jose. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. this morning the bart board of directors will begin discussing what it will do with a projected budget surplus of more than 30 million dollars in the next fiscal year. the agency is considering using the money to invest in underfunded areas that can include expanding service on richmond to daly city line, car replacements and i will proving train interiors. the board will consider hiring 56 new employees to cut down on over time spending. fairfield police looking for suspects in a double shooting that left one dead and another critically injured

before 9:00 last night outside a bar in the 600 block of park erode at the travis shopping center near travis air force base. police are looking for two seen running they believe a dispute inside the bar led to the shooting. confessed serial arsonist off the streets in contra costa county. 62-year-old man has admitted starting several small grass fires. he led investigators to where he lit them. the fires were set in a field adjacent to his home near walnut creek. he told investigators he didn't think he was doing anything wrong because he just lit some paper and only burned some small spots of grass. >> he admitted to an estimated seven to nine fires over the past two years. we suspect that he's responsible for many more. many fires that went unreported. >> he has a history of setting fires, dating back to 1995. he was arrested for setting a trash can fire in san rafael

in 1998. police released a picture of the man wanted in connection with a series of bank robberies in the south bay. investigators say 25-year-old alex ryan wells used a note to rob the federal credit union tuesday morning. they believe he used the same method to rob banks last week. he's described as a transient, 5'10, 180 pounds. if you see him, call police. senator feinstein expected to announce today new coalition of business leaders and others will try to raise one billion dollars over the coming decade to protect corporate campuses, schools and homes from flooding. the money will be used to build new levees and restore wetlands in south santa clara county where much of the property is vulnerable to flooding. officials say some of the property is behind levees that sit as much as 13 feet below sea level.

calm. there will be more showers. the other communities looking at heavy rain for localized flooding around the streets, unpasses, you know those areas that have poor drainage in the east bay, burg, oakley, brentwood clearing walnut creek now but still 680 and 580 wet weather, livermore, altamont pass towards dublin, san ramon valley, pretty good rain, tennison road also raymond road and manning road, looking at some moderate rain south bay, cambria park, campbell, williams road and saratoga the rain is coming down at a good clip. you add the wind and it is dicey out there there's the front. within the next 30 minutes -- we'll all get into the showery pattern this is the heaviest rain all morning with the gustiest winds then a break

until we do it all again. more rain north, wind gusts 32 miles an hour at the airport, 22 in the south bay, low 50s, mild with upper 40s in the north bay. looking at rain totals through tomorrow, we'll do this again anywhere from 3/4 of an inch to an inch and a half, one to two inches probably 3/4 upwards today, another 3/4 in the highest elevations this is our front, and behind it we'll just get into the partly cloudy sky today. let's plan out the rest of your day. you will notice by 10, 11:00, east bay and south bay, light showers. elsewhere partly cloudy the next frontal band 3:00 tomorrow morning with another 3/4 of an inch to an inch of rain. by 2:00 things begin to wind down this is the coldest and last system in the series. then we will be looking at drier, warmer, milder conditions saturday into next week maybe a few more clouds wednesday frances what is going on out there?

welcome back. jury selection begins today in north carolina in the trial of former democratic presidental hopeful john edwards. he's facing six federal charges for allegedly using a million dollars in campaign money to help keep his pregnant mistress out of public eye during the 2008 presidential race. all this happening while his wife was battling terminal cancer. edwards faces up to 30 years in prison and a 1.5 million dollar fine in convicted. last year he rejected a plea of six months in prison that would have allowed him to keep his law license. jennifer lopez and marc anthony officially getting divorceed. anthony filed the -- paperwork

san jose right now very wet weather down through bailey avenue, and here's some more shower activity behind the front we'll detail the rest of the day in a few minutes. we've been getting calls for accidents in the south bay there was an overturn crash reported north 101 oakland road. turns out now they think the accident or accidents i should say, is southbound 101 at the al lem rock area and south 101 -- near 13th streets. there could be several accidents. there's a wind advisory for the golden gate, bay bridge and richmond san rafael bridge. another injury accident northbound 680 near berryessa this is an overturn crash they are saying it is a bob tail truck on its side in the left

lanes. here's a live shot of 280 and highway 17 in san jose the rain has been coming down in the south bay on highway 17 there's a huge tree down on bear creek road near highway 17 look out for that. here's some slowing on north 101 approaching 880 here's the other accident north 680 traffic slow there. i wanted to move the maps forward a little bit. westbound 580 broadway another overturn crash that they are trying to clear from the right lanes. hours from now, groundbreaking will begin in santa clara county for bart's extension to san safe the so-called berryessa project will cost almost -- 3 billion dollars when completed bart will run from fremont to the berryessa area of east san jose this is animation showing what the station will look like. the project will create more than 1600 construction jobs.

reservoirs where the young girl may have been taken. more than 100 have searched rural areas of southern santa clara county for the 15-year-old. she went missing nearly a month ago when she didn't show up for school. in a few hours the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed and you armed black teenager is set to appear in court on a second degree murder charge. george zimmerman turned himself in last night in connection with the february shooting of 17-year-old trayvon martin. zimmerman claims it was self-defense. his attorney says he will plead not guilty. the attorney plans to invoke the stand your ground law which gives wide leeway to use deadly force. more coming up in a live report at 5:45. state lawmakers say they intend to make university police departments more accountable in the wake of a report blasting acts of officers against student protesters. the report says the uc davis police used excessive force when they pepper sprayed students who were protesting

tuition hikes last fall. the report criticizes administrators for creating the environment that allowed it to happen. recommending a top to bottom review of the police departments. the officers are on paid leave while the incident is being investigated. national weather service says a tornado with wind speeds of 100 miles an hour touched down yesterday afternoon near stockton. a viewer caught this image and sent it to us. the twister destroyed a shed, tipped over a 53 foot trailer and buried a pick-up truck six miles south of stockton. it also shot sheet metal, wood and other debris, narrowly missing a home. >> it lifted the shop up like it was one piece. >> it got lifted up like a bomb went off and bursted everywhere. >> the homeowner, four kids, his wife and parents were all home when the tornado struck around 1:00 yesterday
