see here the thunderstorm moved across the san mateo county coast license and then headed into the east bay where now we start to see some of the dying down. i'll take you in a little bit closer here and show where you we see some very heavy rain rate now. milpitas, down to san jose, saratoga, los gatos area and loop this once again back last couple hours, the strikes diminish but don't be fooled by that because look what is coming. wider picture here there are still numerous light anything striking well off the coast here. just to our south west. so far over 3000 lightning strike have been reported around the state since this afternoon staggering number. look at the emeryville camera. time lapse. i'm playing it for you in slow motion to see the lightning strike over the bay. those thunderstorms will continue that the night. lick i said we are far from through with those thunderstorms. i'll be back to let you know how much longer to

expect this plus a lack at the all important giants forecast for tomorrow in just a little bit. >> okay thanks. wild night. >> certainly has been. as just mentioned peninsula has been hit hard by these thunderstorms with all the lightning it's simply too dangerous for our crew to put up the mast on the live truck. >> it is. we have conditions in pacifica and half moon bay. really coming down there, righ right. >> yes, it was. the rain has tapered off a little bit but we started the night in the mission district, about 8:30 when the rain really started come down. saw lots of lightning. heard the thunder rolling and actually there because of the earlier rain today caused flooding in that area. so residents were clipping up. so once we started getting the written and thunder and lightning we hopped on highway 1 and drove down toward half moon bay and we did see obviously ponding on the roadway then we drove by devil slide. that area i'll be

honest is a little unnerving when you see fresh earth out on the ground there. especially with the rain just come down. steady lightning. maybe around 10:00 o'clock that we were in that area. rain still coming down pretty hard and we decided to make our way back up to pacifica and that's where we are now and the rain has tapered off. haven't seen lightning for a couple minutes but like said we have had so much lightning and still more to come. so we are just kind of staying safe here. not putting our mast up because we have to make sure we stay safe and bring everybody the information they want to know about how the weather is going. >> thanks so much. we'll check back in with you if we need to. appreciate it. >> always better safe than sorry. rough weather causing nrobs a number of areas in the oakland hills. tree came crashing down with unfortunate consequence. >> all the lightning made it unsafe for her to report live from the scene. lillian. >> rain was coming down hard in the oakland hills. ground so

up. lisa is live on the scene for us. lisa? >>reporter: the standoff is developing very quickly as you can see behind me. the suspect apartment is now on fire. it happened about 40 minutes ago. massive fire is engulfing the apartment. and huge black cloud has been hanging over the roof. fire crew trying to stop it from spreading to neighboring apartments. i spoke with police spokesperson few minutes ago and he told me nothing they did would have started this fire. meaning all of the flash bang and tear gas canister they have been firing into the suspect apartment for the past hour would not have caused something like this to happen l. suspect hasn't come out and in the communicating with law enforcement. they have been trying to reach him since 3:00 o'clock this afternoon. in fact even after tleing flash bang that the apartment they would get on the bull horn and say things like that quote i know you can hear me. i know you are afraid. but still no answer from the

suspect. this all started at 11:00 a.m. when stanislaus county shains sheriff's deputy went to the suspect door with eviction notice when suddenly gunfire. officials say the suspect started somewhating and within moments 2 people were dead. deputy robert perris and unnamed civilian. sfichlt heard boom boom really loud like shots and i was lake my god wake up my boyfriend i was like somebody shooting then we after the shot stopped we wait add second and went outside and i seen 2 bodies right there just laying there. >>reporter: the now a lot of people have been evacuated. many are waiting it out at nearby church. law enforce frment 15 different agency as well as the fbi and swat teams from 4 counties are here. police can very tight lipped about the strategy and i did ask if they think the suspect is even in the apartment or able to communicate with them only answer is they think he is contained. back hear live now
